This is conspiracy nonsense, the NPHET decisions are in broad agreement with other measures taken globally. Netherlands close pubs at 5pm, are they also mounting a campaign against the downtrodden masses?

Should have shut down the pubs altogether. This wave is going to **** the country up and it's about time people started taking it seriously.

If it's 5 say it's 5.Dont insult people's intelligence. Should just of gone for total closure as it amounts to the same outcome.

pubs are a big part of rural life at Christmas, don’t think the government realise the damage this will do to people.

Pathetic decision by government. The drinks lobby in their ear obviously. Massive surge of cases incoming.

With the 12 close ,it was last call 11:30 and off premises by 12.. I have a wedding on tbr 30th and the bride and groom have been advised..

So I'd say its 7:30 last call. Out by 8..in any pub I have been outdoors, they pour your last drinks into plastic cup and you can take them away ...I think that's a better idea than necking 3pints in an hour. So not take away pints as such..

I did laugh at the FF Senators complaining about the NPHET recommendation but then when challenged they wouldn't resign and would in fact, vote to bring it in. It's the lack of accountability in all of this that is absolutely galling. Playing with people's lives for the sake of political optics, the government should hang their heads in shame

I'd say some businesses won't reopen, tough times for hospitality

Ah the old bait and switch, pretend they want 5pm and end up with 8pm technique, who could possibly have predicted that!

Everybody. Everybody predicted that. Because this shower of **** are as predictable as they are incompetent.

Well, I'd been planning to go down the country for a few days "staycation" after Christmas.

Not much point with an 8pm curfew. Instead I'll be saving my money and spending it abroad somewhere in Jan or Feb.

    Great work, lads

The far more relevant point relating to ICU provision is WHY the HSE failed to follow it's own 2009 recommendations....https://www.eolasmagazine.ie/critical-care-capacity/ Of particular relevance, given current conditions is this..... Towards Excellence in Critical Care, a 2009 review of adult critical care services, recommended a 45 per cent increase of critical care beds from 289 to 418. “This WILL need to increase sequentially to 579 over the period 2010 to 2020,” the Prospectus report stated, adding: “All critical care units should work towards a minimum capacity of eight beds.”

At the time of the report in September 2009, there were 289 funded, open critical care beds in the State and nurse:patient ratios for ICU varied from 1:1 to 1:1.5. This represented 8.71 adult critical care beds per 100,000 of the adult population (aged 16 and over).

Reading through the recommendations of the "Towards Excellence" report it is beyond rational thought how ANY of the Pandemic pronouncements of CMO Holohan and HSE CEO Reid can be taken seriously. At some point these individuals and their support mechanisms will HAVE to be challenged.

    Mad,is'nt it ?

They don't have to vote on the extra restrictions. They can ram all of this through because of the "emergency" legislation. (which they did vote for).

But we both know they would have voted for it if they had the opportunity. Complete spinelessness.

    Very apt!!

I have a suspicion you'll find much of the modelling used by these people is of the Bertie Aherne school..."Back of an Envelope".

Absolutely, I can’t believe the reaction this decision is getting on here. We could be in for an extremely serious few weeks and these measures don’t go far enough to prevent anything aside from maybe slowing the spread a little.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,306 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Explain why it is then that they have been consistently wrong with their models and predictions, and always slow to react when that happens.

The only expertise they have is at covering their own asses.

Probably the easiest way to administer vaccines for future variants is to add it to the water supply like fluoride.

There's a different feeling about this lockdown, especially been announced a week before Christmas, people not going to sit back with this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,033 ✭✭✭✭Richard Hillman

Restrictions to go until the end of January. They are rolling out the boosters for the 40-50s this week. Everyone who needs the booster has been boosted.

What are they actually trying to achieve here? Everything that could have been done for the most vulnerable, has been done.

Cases will blow up over the next few weeks and we are going to hear the total BS of "well, imagine how much worse it would have been without the restrictions".

It is a whole pile of nonsense.

No doubt the 3 Amigos will be expressing sincerest regrets , sadness and empathy later at their useless spin conference, alleged supports announced with no details, they'll depart on their extended break and not hear a whisper out of them until the new year.

I've a simple question, Where the F**K are the opposition in all of this charade , barely a whimper out of any of them all day 🙄

We could be or we could not be.

Covid is here for a long, long time.

Vaccinations are there to stop us getting seriously ill, the variant is deemed to be less severe than before. Hospitalisations are down, the lowest in a long time, even with the mess of a health service we have.

Schools were not properly looked after in the past few months, facts are the hospitality is not accountable for the vast majority of cases. Assumptions are.

8pm for bars and restaurants, what more dya want?
