When did they ever say they were doing away with the mixed messaging? The last I heard they won't even admit that messaging is mixed

So long as you abide by the limitations while you do so (unless you're only roaming outdoors in this country)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,681 ✭✭✭Penfailed

Now you're getting it. If I was living in lockdown, I wouldn't be free to roam (outdoors).

Just to be clear, most doctors don't test for COVID, if you want to get tested get yourself to a testing centre - the clue is in the name

Groan. Yes, technically the Oxford English dictionary defines lockdown blah blah blah.

If we are going to be so painfully pedantic do you at least retract saying "you're free to go wherever you want"?

The restrictions I listed (which you agree are ****?) mean I'm not really free to go "wherever I want".

So when the 2k/5k/county-wide rules were in place, we weren't in lockdown because you were free to roam (within a certain area)?

Are we in lockdown now, because we arent free to roam outside of this country (subject to vaccination or testing restrictions)?

Where do you draw the line?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,876 ✭✭✭bokale

Sure even before covid you weren't free to go wherever you like.

    Restrictions are a load of boll*x -

Apologies for the rant..but this scenario happened today:

A bunch of teenagers were booked into the cinema, ages ranging from 12-17- some vaccinated some are not.. mixed ages as a younger sibling is tagging along.

One of this group apparently was waiting on the results of a PCR test- ill make the assumption he is has no symptoms.. and he has been confirmed as negative of today, so is joining the group to the trip to the cinema.. he is vaccinated..

The 12 year old is not vaccinated. He can go.. the guy with the cert, but just got a test back today can go.. a 17 year old who has not had the vaccine cannot go..

We are all aware the rules make no sense in a mixed scenario like this... but how the can people agree that we can all roam free.. when a teenager cant even go to the cinema with his mates, or macdonalds afterwards.. without the vaccine.. and before anyone starts.. the 17 year old IMO would only be getting this to go to MacDonalds.. and since more recently the cinema....

Just because the restrictions may not effect some people, (cos their lives consist of walks and going the shops- no offence). for others it is very very damaging even for such as simple as teenage friendships.. the next time there is a trip to the cinema , the unvaccinated 17 year old wont get invited- that is devastating for a 17 year old - possibly along with that, the parents of others in the group will probably know now the vax status and make judgements on the child and their parents.. cos lets be real.. that will happen...

Ireland is a cold, damp & expensive shithole, and the covid rules, combined with stickers, posters and Tony lovers have made it unbearable.

    Everywhere you go..... covid.

Went to Glencarr Waterfall a few months back and they have covid warning posters right at the best spot for taking photos of the damn thing.

Pubs, shops, restaurants, etc., etc. are closed at night time since before March last year. Does that mean you've always been locked down? You aren't free to walk into a restricted area in a hospital. You can't just walk into a factory or building site. Are you locked down because of those restrictions?

A lockdown is a restriction of movement or a 'stay at home' order. This has been discussed many times on this thread.

An unvaccinated person is restricted from leaving the country now without a negative PCR test - which wasnt the case previously. Is that a lockdown in Ireland?

Also limits have to be arbitrary, why can someone not drink alcohol one day, have a birthday the next and now drink all they want? Unless a country wants to go the route of means testing everything ("are you mature enough to drink alcohol test") then it has to be arbitrary distinctions and the easiest one to put in place is age.

It's also your opinion that they would only be getting vaccinated to go to McDonalds, scientifically, they're turning a low chance into an almost non existent chance of severe disease, reducing their chances of being infected, of passing it on and reducing the symptoms they would have if infected.

I think the 17 year old can decide for themselves if they get vaccinated or not (open to correction and practicalities as well).

Those who wouldn't get treated and die if the hospitals get overrun, it's that simple.

Would you be happy to pay for increased hospital capacity 100% of the time in case a once in a century pandemic occurs? Say, 20% over capacity? (€4bn every extra every year for 100 years, just in case).

There was ad ad on this morning about giving vaccinations abroad and anne doyle ( the narrator) said no one is safe till

    we are all safe.

    Seriously this is beyond cringe.

Not in my book. Others seem to think that if they can't get a table in a pub they're locked down... *shrugs*

The middle aged white men in charge of this country do not give a single **** about 17 year olds, about children, about anybody who has no future worth talking about in this pissant country.

It used to be that adults would sacrifice themselves to save a child, today they trample over them to safety. I don't even have children but it is an utter disgrace what has been done to them in the past 18 months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 160 ✭✭noraos

True, however, this is a thread on the discussion of restrictions, I was fully aware that adults were being restrictions without a pass as over 18! I was highlighting, that for under 18's there are restrictions placed on their lives.. by the government.. as a coercion tool to get a vaccine that is not really needed for a healthy 17 year old.

I find it amusing that the question you ask is about the unvaxxed 17 year old and not the child that got his PCR results today and will head into the cinema.. if he got a test today he wither had symptoms or was close contact.. But YEAH... target the unvaccinated for your questions ! Madness

We're already paying 20 billion a year (plus top-ups) for the HSE. Let's see where that's going first because it certainly isn't being spent properly. The increase in capacity is something that has featured on reports for years (others have posted them in these threads before) yet it hasn't happened and targets missed. Why?

Sure we're sending people for tests "Just in case" or if they have the sniffles. I think it would probably be better to have that extra capacity myself.

The 12 year old cant go either. Everyone u18 has to have proof of vaccination or recovery if under the age of 18 and unaccompanied.

If there's someone over 18 with them that is fully vaccinated then none of the u18s are checked

    Makes no sense, I know.

Yeah it's definitely 12 but 12, 13 doesn't make any odds, the fact that they can't go themselves but can with an over 18 is just silly.
