Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Have thought of selling my black one but I got it for €375, brand new. Just needs a battery. Reckon I'll hang on.

Yep, Tags had the F1, Tiger Woods and if memory serves? Man Utd and Brad Pitt too? As their advertising in the 90s.

    And this week's beater

Feel like I’m a bit younger than the curve here, early thirties and wasn’t big on watches growing up but always wanted a tag as said above Tiger woods F1 etc, remember their adds in national geographic etc. Omega wasn’t massively on my radar, Tag and Rolex were about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,239 ✭✭✭Lurching

Never liked Rolex. I'm in my late 30's but bought my first Tag in early 20's, then Breitling Aerospace and Emergency in late 20's.

Now the Rolex's are starting to appeal to me. Particularly the expensive ones.

Tissot for my 21st from parents, bought my Tag at 24, then nothing until 33 when I got my Tudor and hope to buy my Rolex at 35, probably up until 12 months ago I didn’t really appreciate subs but have done a complete 360 on that one.

Hiding out on my coffee break trying to get my students to leave me alone. Going with the blue theme.

Had to put in an extra link on the royal Oak last night as I am a bit watery at the moment. You can get a link and a half but the links are small enough.

I am super lucky to have purchased this watch when I did, seemed like such massive investment at the time, but this one of all my watches really makes me feel good. In a world where buying a Rolex at retail is a win there are still some amazing watches being sold under retail that will reward your courage.

    *Not financial advice*

The confidence a patient must feel knowing the lad poking around in their mouth is good enough at their job to be able to command the prices that afford such beautifully curated wristwear 😮😉

Seriously Fitz, that and some of your other pieces, in particular the Pateks would inspire me to let you do whatever you liked to my gob as long as you have a watch on both wrists while you do it 😁

There's you rocking an AP and actually wearing it. One of the things that I sometimes see people struggle with, is actually wearing their watches. I think it's brilliant to see watches, and by that I do mean "all" watches worn! Rather than just treasured as safe queens.

This is a family forum Banie. What you and Fitz put in each other’s gobs is your own business.

Actually you're another one that's a great example of what wearing and loving a watch should be 😉

There can't be too many lads mucking out a cow shed with a AL&S on the wrist 😮

Unless the IFA have been lying all along and none of ye need second jobs cos every one with a few acres has a pile of CAP money 😂😂 (joking 😉)

Not ideal timing for me but I had a want to buy on the G-SHOCK square titanium on tz forums for a few months. Seller messaged me and was offering below retail (these are sold out) stickers still on it in the box so couldn’t refuse. Silly money for a G-SHOCK but it feels really nice on the wrist. I had two other squares. The silver steel which I liked a lot but I wanted the black case and bracelet. The black one I had had a negative display which I wasn’t fond of. This one is pretty much perfect. Noticeably lighter than the steel

    That's a gorgeous G-Shock Mick

Got this after seeing it mentioned on the Best sub 500 euro thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,012 ✭✭✭njburke

I've always liked those 1970, that's the first time I've seen that colourway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,918 ✭✭✭hitemfrank

I was seriously considering that version of the 1970 when I got mine. I got the black version with the orange 15 minute indication on the internal bezel in the end.

Still not sure if I would have preferred the blue version

Wanted to try a datejust and like the Wimbledon dial .The jubilee is very comfortable but this might be a bit dressy for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 646 ✭✭✭fulladapipes

Even though mine is 45 years old and very rattley, the jubilee bracelet is the most comfortable thing I own, apart from an ancient woolly jumper. I think the smaller Datejusts with darker dials can pass off as more sporty than dressy.

    Stowa fleiger

Haven't read the book yet but looks interesting. The sub-title is 'the evolution of the anti-submarine aircraft 1912-1980.

    Steinhart sub.

The author spent 15 years in the RAF as aircrew, specialising in instruction on electronic warfare, aircraft weapons and air-fighting tactics.

While the engineers are hard at work fixing the broadband......

Went out and got the other Bell-Matic advert printed out

Very fitting with the mask at the moment, also bonus Boeing 707 tail in the background

    @CT

    Thats a beautiful Stowa.

Was tempted by couple of those on eBay in recent weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,809 ✭✭✭micks_address

Is it by accident or design the crown finishes in upright position on my Datejust?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,506 ✭✭✭Oafley Jones

Accident. Add it to the category of people expecting screw heads to be aligned. Rolex do have a mechanism for the crown on the first skydwellers, which they didn’t carry across to the SS models.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,720 ✭✭✭scwazrh

As @Oafley Jones says but I would see it more as luck than accident.A nice satisfying little bonus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,989 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

    Great for the ocd sufferers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,720 ✭✭✭scwazrh

Have you any scratches on it yet Mick ?Ive only worn mine for 4days and the polished center of the clasp looks like I took a wire brush to it.

    Very comfortable watch though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,809 ✭✭✭micks_address

It came with a light scratch on the clasp and that’s about it so far. It doesn’t get much rough and tumble in my work from home office job . The jubilee bracelet is excellent

Finally managed to get the broadband fixed, after getting everything set up with the new modem and then hunting around for a new shed (prices for wooden sheds are gone crazy due to the shortage of wood!) Unfortunately haven't had much time left for watches :(

    Am I doing this right?

NO all watches must be placed on books about WW2, or at least books about intrepid explorers.

Well at least one thing in that photo is reasonably priced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,720 ✭✭✭scwazrh

That’s a serious piece . Have you had to service it yet ? I’d imagine the service cost is substantial

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,149 ✭✭✭893bet

Considering it’s only time and date it it eye watering. Approx 1200 for service and case finish. Not serviced. Will only service if I timing goes way out. And would likely go independent.

I bought it second hand, private from a chap I trust. But there could have been 5 owners prior. It may have been stolen. Or subject to insurance fraud. Or who knows. Same as an privately bought watch. As values rise….:risk rises.

I ain’t taking the risk of Patek deciding to keep what is approaching a 50k watch……and if you watch Paul Thorpe……he had a watch stolen…..and returned to Rolex for service a few years later by an unassuming buyer…….and Rolex kept the watch……so they both lost out. That happened this year. Not going to put myself in that potential situation.

Weather seems to have turned a bit. I'm not wearing shorts at my desk for the first time in months, so put this one on to brighten up my Tuesday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,809 ✭✭✭micks_address

Feeling its time to retire the shorts as well...
