Yeah noticeable difference. If you're coming from ICE you'll still find it fast. But for me coming from other EVs, and currently driving the 204hp, I found it slightly sluggish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 612 ✭✭✭Rusky rusky

Yours has a heavier battery and plenty of extra equipment. My 1st base doesn’t feel sluggish unless you try to floor it from above 100kmh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,642 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Mine is the 204hp and doesn't feel sluggish at all despite the heavier battery.

The loaner I had last week was a 58kWh Family spec with the 145hp and it was clearly slower compared to both the 204hp 58kWh that I test drove, and the 204hp 77kWh that I own.

I have a Tour 5 for over 2 weeks now. It took 3 months to arrive from when I ordered in May (just realised it was the day before I joined here). That included manufacturing delays – it was originally due for delivering in first week of July.

I’m loving it so far, it has Travel assist and various safety features not included in the Family model which I was also considering. It cost a bit more than the Family but I wanted the 77KWh battery to avoid winter range anxiety. The 58 would have been more than enough for the majority of my driving.

I was worried that the extra weight of the 77 would have a negative affect on handling and comfort but if anything its better over bumpy roads compared to the ID.3 58 I tried. Performance is also really good for such a heavy car, it can really take off when you need to, though I recommend B mode around town for keeping it under control and a more relaxing drive in traffic. Travel assist is great in traffic, but still getting used to its tendancy to get get speeds signs wrong on occasion! Hopefully that will improve after the next software update.

I’ve driven close to 400Km mixed between city and motorway in mostly good weather. I drive in D mode on motorways. Power consumption was recorded as 14.5KWh/ 100 KM, giving a range of over 500KM.

Regarding missing features, the Tour5 is very well equipped but missing some of the Tour 4 seat features like the HUD and memory seats, and rear speakers. Before buying, I test drove a Family 58 for a day which had the glass roof, dual zone aircon, and split-level boot (all missing in Tour5).

I liked the glass roof a lot, but it heated up the car a lot on a warm day, and I imagine would do the opposite in winter. I don’t miss the dual aircon except for its voice control which isn’t available with single zone for some reason. Then again, I still can’t get voice commands to work reliably – hopefully it will improve but right nows it’s a long way off Alexa, Siri, or Google. No problems using voice commands in car play or android auto.

Split-level boot would be handy for hiding cables, etc, but happy with boot space which is more than it looks (because of the shape)

Overall, I’m very happy, with my choice. I’ll be going on a long trip next weekend and will report back after that and my first experience with public charging.

The Tour 4 doesn't have memory seat settings.

Seemingly the MY22 in the UK does, bit of a stinker that we didn't get it. Maybe it's possible and will be unlocked with a future update. Hey I can dream...

Memory doesn't seem to be something that VW are big on.

    The car doesn't remember:

    * window dial setting, which would enable it to dip every time on reverse

    * auto headlight dip. Even though it remembers auto lights, auto dip has to be selected every time

    * display options on the screen behind the wheel. No matter which configuration you go with, it will default back to the 3 section mode

    * driving mode. The screen in the menu will remember what you had chosen but the car always drops back to comfort, even if the screen says eco or sport.

Some like a pice of junk... just kidding😀

    just wonder what this means

window dial setting, which would enable it to dip every time on reverse

Most cars have a physical button to flick left or right before adjusting the wing mirrors. So whichever side you leave it on, it stays on.

In the ID3 there is a round dial there. When you turn the car on nothing is selected but then then turn that dial to select L, R, mirror defrost I think, and something else.

To make the passengers wing mirror dip when reversing, it has to be set to L but because that L/R position defaults to nothing selected every time you start up, you have to turn it to L manually every time you want to dip the mirror.

In the i3 for example you could just leave the physical switch on L and it would then always dip on reverse.

Why would you dip your mirrors when reversing? This is honestly the first time I've ever heard of someone doing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,642 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Because if you're parallel parking and dip the passengers wing mirror you can get a clearer view of how close your extraordinarily expensive alloy is to the kerb.

Now that you say it, I'd noticed all of those too. Took me ages to figure out how to make the side mirror dip. Also still trying to figure out the auto wipers which didn't come on during a downpour yesterday.

Any recommendations for a good windscreen cleaner? Mine is covered in a waxy/ greasy residue only visible when the wipers are on - I couldn't see a thing...

And seriously, what's the craic with the price of the wheels? €2.5k or something for a set of Andoyas?

When I had the i3 I bought a set of wheels with tyres from BMW direct for under €1k.

Better view of the side of the car and the ground at the side of car when reversing.

In the 90s the Renault Safrane used to do this automatically on the passenger side when reverse gear selected.

On some cars for safety reasons auto wipers only come on once activated, a bit like the auto dipping lights. But on the ID.3 they should work without activation. Check the sensitivity is turned to the highest.

I think we all probably had greasy windows after the dry spell, mine seem fine again today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,642 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Yes my auto wipers work automatically. Sometimes takes a nudge though, if you get in and the window is soaked for example they won't wipe, it's only when they get water streaming or hitting the screen that they kick in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 612 ✭✭✭Rusky rusky

You could also have a faulty rain sensor. I had mine replaced under warranty. Works fine now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭eagerv

Also check that the wipers are set to operate automatically in the settings menu. I think it's in the third page of the interior menu. They can be set to work auto or just intermittent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,642 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

Funny enough I couldn't get the auto wipers to work on the demo I had.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭eagerv

Probably just switched off in settings. Demo cars have every button and switch pressed arseways in my experience.😂

Thanks for your replies about auto wipers. It was on in settings with sensitivity set to max but they didn't come on, even though it was hammering down! I was parked while testing it so maybe that was it - I'll check again, next time it rains which shouldn't be too long.

Yes, I wish I'd remembered it recently when parking at a high kerb, I think all my alloys have scratches now 😭

Not sure if this has it's own thread but the Arteon/Passat ID car got spotted recently undergoing testing

Apparently it's the ID.6, extra confusing because the ID.6 in China is the 6 seater ID.4

Definite ID.4 styling in the door handles, mirros and lights. If they release an estate version I think it'll be a looker

Also, I like how someone has taped the charge port cover down, I wonder did they break it or was that for efficiency 😁

Thanks both for your brilliantly detailed replies. I love learning from your experiences. The main reason I have been considering the Tour 5 is for the 77Kwh battery. We frequently go for longer drives (Dublin - Waterford, Galway or Carlingford) with a couple of bikes on the bike rack at the back of our existing ICE (2018 Auris).

In that car, we get to Waterford and half-way back before needing to refuel.

Looking at something like ABRP, for the same journey with the bikes, using the 58Kwh model we'd need to stop twice to top-up the battery, but with the 77Kwh model we'd only need to stop once - the same as our existing car.

If it was a trip that we only do once a year, I wouldn't be pushed and would just go for the 58Kwh, but it's something that would be frequent enough. So, I'm definitely glad to learn from the combined experience of everyone on this thread.

Yeah, took me ages to figure that was required. Problem is that it behaves like normal intermittent, even when not raining

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭electricus

No problem, I’m still learning how everything works and this thread has been a great help!

The hitch and bike rack wasn’t an option when I ordered due to the extra weight of the biggerbattery. One of the dealers I spoke to mentioned that it may be an option in future but you should check that out if it’s important.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,401 ✭✭✭Fingleberries

Interesting. Rather than using the VW hitch and bike rack, would a standard rear mounted one like these from Halfords do the trick?

    https://www.halfords.ie/cycling/bike-racks/rear-mounted-bike-racks/halfords-3-bike-rear-mounted-bike-rack-463046.html

I know it'll eat into range, but it does that on my ICE anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,642 ✭✭✭✭DrPhilG

That's exactly what was happening on the 58kWh that I test drove. Leave it on intermittent and it would wipe intermittently 24/7 but would never respond like an auto wiper should.

I'd speak to the dealer. Something not right if the stalk is in the right place and the software is set right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,582 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

I wouldn't recommend that, apparently the rear spoiler can't much weight and the bike rack straps might pull it off

Anyone find any after market rubber mats for the ID3? Think I'll swap out the cloth ones for the wetter months.

    Edit:

I've also come across this guy in the UK offering an alcantara wrapped centre console.

And looks like they're offering a stick on one soon. Might be a option to ship to AddressPal.

Looks nice, but not sure how it would take my coffee splashes..

The Carbon effect centre console from Ali Express looks ok also
