That ain't going to go down well when 50% of the EU supply from AZ for Q2 is expected to come from outside the bloc. Whatever about the delivery schdule being all over the place, the last thing anyone needs is vaccines being held up coming in or going out

The EU are starting to behave very irrationally. von der Leyen is way out of her depth and should quit before she causes more chaos.
AstraZeneca can't meet deliveries and decide to send 250k abroad yet the EU is irrational?

It is not a statement it is a question. It turns out thet the UK actually signed their contract the day after the EU not months before as has been widely reported and it was very similar. The UK are also paying more per dose and have stuck their noses in all over so who knows what levers have been pulled.

They also have a much better contract.

Why is it always European factories that Australia and Canada have to rely on? America's greediness needs to be highlighted more tbh.

AZ are a private company with multiple contracts with multiple countries. The EU contract is weak. They are not playing by the rules and just trying to cover up their incompetence. This sort of hostile behaviour is reckless.

You've read the contract? Half of it was redacted

Politico did a comparison. I've already posted it a few times! AZ will avoid litigation. The EU contract only required "best effort".

I wonder what was redacted and on whose request? Who are they hiding the detail from? Us?

As if they wouldn't redact it, a private business never ever publishes contracts

Latest figures shows that 97% of the population hasn't been vaccinated yet, according to RTE report.

EU has messed it up big time. They are actually starting to behave like a spoilt child in regards to everything lately.

Trying to bully countries, very disappointing

And two months into it. We need to source our own supply.

Wonder will the north let the south come up and pay for the vaccine once all done up there.

By that measure the UK rate is only 1.5%

Haven't been fully vaccinated. 6% have received at least one dose, which offers a huge degree of protection.

This system announced today is a disaster, they should have left it to gps to identify cohort 4. My father had to ring his diabetes clinic ( he had an issue with his machine). They confirmed that his levels were stable so he will not be in cohort 4. Technically his bmi is over 40 but they said that is nothing to do with them and they know nothing about referring him.

Him and I imagine many others will fall through the cracks now that it is out of gps hands.
I phoned my GP. He explained that he would call all people on the system that fell into group 4. He said it says Hospital because it is a vaccine clinic that is set up for them. Tell your father to call his GP for clarification

But how many in the UK have some protection compare to some protection here.

Thanks I will get him to call in the morning, he will murder me if I phone him again ðŸ˜

A 79 year old relative of mine received his vaccination today with no underlying health issues, he received a letter last week stating he was provisionally booked in to get the jab today and they would call him, I assume this is just if they have any spare doses left over.

That's not what the OP said. If the had said 94% it would be comparing apples with apples

How is it irrational? Why would they EU allow Astrazenica to send supplies from the EU to elsewhere whilst consistently missing deliveries to the EU itself?

The EU gave late approval. How many doses should AZ have manufactured at risk beforehand?

Blocking the shipment and threatening article 16. She's just going bananas now.

The US blocked all vaccine exports, yet when Europe attempts to regulate them here, it’s suddenly behaving irrationally etc etc.

One could also argue that Australia is in no particular rush, having controlled the virus using other measures, while most of Europe has a dire need for vaccines immediately and is producing them domestically.

There is an element of vaccine nationalism, but I don’t honestly think either Australia or NZ are going to be struggling for supplies nor are they under any public health pressure.

You could argue it’s a very very wealthy country with almost no covid issues buying vaccines from a factory in one that had one of the worst outbreaks on the planet.

Fair play to the EU and Italy. Astrazeneca using EU plants to export hundreds of thousands of life saving vaccines outside the bloc while unable to supply the EU itself. They won't even use the UK plants as the UK won't allow them to export. Also the US has blocked exports until it gets the vaccines it needs.

I 100% support this decision. All future AZ shipments outside the bloc should be blocked until European citizens get the vaccines they were promised.

If France was suffering from rolling blackouts while French power stations continued to export electricity to the UK, you wouldn't call it irrational for the government to step in.

This is no different, but it's a handy distraction for those who hate the EU.

It would be nice if we could keep the politicking out of this thread.

The EU fired a shot across AZ's bow a few weeks ago that they would block vaccine exports if it came to that.

AZ have now been fvcking around and reneging on their EU commitments. So it makes sense that the EU would do what it has to.

But is there a trade agreement with Australia and EU? Its all getting very messy now
