Donnelly live on RTE news now in the dail about the vaccine rollout

Can't listen to it at the moment. Has he been asked whether September is still doable for 70/80% of population?

Donnelly has asked NIAC to review the prioritisation list, particularly cohort number 7, who he says are particularly high risk and urgent and Donnelly will update the dail next week

Fauci indicates that vaccine on demand by anyone should be available in the US by April.
'Speaking to NBC’s Today Show, Fauci says the rate of vaccinations will greatly accelerate in the coming months. He credits forthcoming deliveries of the two approved vaccines, the potential approval of a third and moves taken by the Biden administration to increase the nation’s capacity to deliver doses.

He says, “by the time we get to April,” it will be “open season, namely virtually everybody and anybody in any category could start to get vaccinated.”

But, the Associated Press report, he cautioned it will take “several more months” to logistically deliver injections to adult Americans but predicted herd immunity could be achieved by late summer.' Guardian

Vaccine priority groups 4 and onwards will be vaccinated earlier than expected. Update on exact timeline next week.

Good to hear. Not unexpected as they'd hardly have AZ sitting in a fridge doing nothing. Will be good to get the parallel rollout going

I've thought about this before rushing to judgment. I think you are right. If ever there was a time to go make connections it was now.

Last year was different. It was a jolly compared to this year.

We need supplies. Jab and Go or take one for the Team.

By that logic shouldn't you be asking him to head to London now to request that if the UK has an excess can Ireland please get some as a priority ?

Edit or at a minimum confining they will take it if offered

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,640 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

Based on supply forecast, September for all people who want a vaccination is still possible according to Donnelly but he reiterates it is highly dependant on supply

    Numbers are still tiny.

Will Ireland source vaccines from Russia to speed up the process?

I am in 5 and my husband in 3 , in theory I could get it before him .,But it is what is is and we will manage that too

Chances are you'll get AZ with a first dose and a second dose 12 weeks apart. Your husband will get Moderna/Pfizer with two doses 3-4 weeks apart.

Most likely scenario - you'll get your first dose before him and he'll get his second dose before you.

    Why not?

Good news, albeit subject to change with possible future logistical issues. I was just concerned that we were already behind schedule with the AZ supply being lower in Q1.

    Why not?
    Have the EMA approved it?

Can we not approve it ourselves? This is an emergency.

No major concern in net vaccinations from these predictions.

The older groups will take longer due to them not being able to get AstraZeneca now and the associated difficulties with the mRNA vaccines.

In other worlds, we’ll be getting closer to our target of having everyone vaccinated but there will be more of the younger groups herring vaccinated sooner and some of the older groups being vaccinated later. We’re still on track at a population level.

Germany looking at shutting borders with Austria and Czechia . From the Guardian :

German leaders have warned that they could not rule out shutting the country’s borders with its neighbours because of troublingly high coronavirus infections fuelled by more contagious variants in countries like Austria and the Czech Republic, AP reports.

“We believe it would be sensible to declare both [Austria and Czech Republic] as mutation areas. This will likely happen,” said Bavarian state premier Markus Soeder. He had warned that if the Czech Republic was unable to take appropriate measures to curb contagion, then a “border closure must also be an issue”.

Germany in late January banned most travellers from countries classed as so-called mutation areas or places hardest hit by new, more contagious coronavirus variants.

Only a handful of exceptions are allowed to enter Germany from these countries, including returning Germans and essential workers. With neighbouring EU countries continuing to report high infection numbers in part fuelled by variants, German leaders fear that keeping the borders open could compromise the country’s efforts to curb contagion.

All over 70s to be fully vaccinated by mid May according to Donnelly.
That falls into line then with when they may look at easing restriction I suspect.

    Good point but as always.

    UK bad.........USA good.

Now because of Brexit........UK very bad.

UK seem to very good at procuring vaccines and administering.

IE and EU not so much.

Is that them as good as done? (bar ones partially done because of outbreaks)

IE are doing pretty well at administering so far. 90% of vaccines received into the country have been used.

Would be a pretty high percentage alright, 22,510 dose 2 done in long term care up to Monday so you'd imagine it would be at the upper end of the scale in terms of completion after next week
