    So, is pennys closed then?
Must admire the government, ineptitude is quite a feat.
I'd love to know what the full cost of this it will be? How many lives ruined?
I'm waiting for flights to be grounded again.

Is this true? That the forecast models NPHET are using aren’t taking T cell immunity into consideration and assuming just 1.7% of us got infected in wave one? Also assuming that they only missed 2/3 cases in April. What huge assumptions to make. More dubious evidence provided to justify this farce.

I suppose they don’t deal with factors that they cannot put the actual precise figure on. Just like the pro lockdown crowd here who come up with 3% death rate.

They are modeling for the worst case scenario, knowing damn well that is a major simplification of the real thing. We are paying the price, yet they cannot be proven wrong. Easy job to be in.

Would you say that it is possible that HSE are and have been sandbagging admissions fir some time now? Making the case that ICUs would be well occupied so that the government takes action now?

There's a massive back log of clinics and surgeries to be done. Breast cancer screening program still hasn't got back to full capacity for example. Patients are now presenting with symptomatic breast cancer that would normally have been detected earlier. If the hospitals get clogged with COVID patients, then all these cancer cases will be pushed back further.

Sorry wasn’t clear - have a reasonable knowledge of herd immunity and reading more ongoing - interested in how you and some others with similar opinions arrive at them.

So if a vaccine may not prevent infections, where are we then?

Transmission will be same as now will it not?

Herd immunity would require anything between 60-80% of a population having immunity.
We do not know if these first vaccine will provide immunity, but if they can reduce the symptoms to the level of a cold or even a flu, they would be a major help in reducing severe symptoms and deaths.

Just read that thread! F**king shocking if true! Astounding negligence.... I’m actually horrified at the data they did not consider when discussing these restrictions! In a way I hope it’s not true because if it is it’s a new level of stupidity found inside government buildings

I run a business that is deemed unessential according to the government.

I won't be closing, I did the first time but not this time. Can't afford it, simple as.

So we are locking down due to the negative effects of the first lockdown. It’s like drinking again to kill off the hangover. Christ. One more and we will develop an addiction.

So absolute waffle from someone that calls someone else a waffler.
    Why ask questions ?
Just for the crack of knocking any answers when you do not have a single answer to anything you yourself are asked?

Charlie14, I simply do not have time for waffle. Time and time again you are avoiding answering simple questions. You either have an opinion or not, and say so. Cop outs is all you do.

Good for you- I'd love to support if I can. Seen a good few of you on social media- "My livelihood is essential to me therefore I will not be closing"- hear hear. Go for it guys- there's a hell of a lot of us right behind you. Comes a time when you stand up for yourself and not be steamrolled over by autocrats. That time has well passed

That speech was an absolute piece of utter drivel. Back to the Christmas threats again....

Today is a dark day for this nation. Shameful propaganda that is being based on eternal fear.

this is utter ****e, utter crap and I am sickened.
My daughter is 8 months pregnant, she returned home from Canada in July. She is living under extreme pressure with a toddler in her in-laws. They have all had Covid and the toddler ended up in hospital. She is exhausted. I badly need to support her in her last weeks of pregnancy and when her baby is born. They are trying to rent a garage from a neighbour next week to get some space of their own.
She is on the phone crying just now, wishing she had stayed in Canada. She is absolutely distraught at these new restrictions. God what a ****ing country this is. 6 ****ing weeks of this, it feels like punishment. She cant come to me, I cant go to her. I feel sick for them being stuck here now in this ****hole

George Lee couldn’t help himself with his ‘NPHET said we should’ve done this two weeks ago’.
Eh no - judging by the statistics you just gave us re the 6 week lockdown and reopening in some shape or form for December, we just about get to mid January, if even before cases go up again. I think George doesn’t understand some of the data he spouts...
