Is this true? That the forecast models NPHET are using aren’t taking T cell immunity into consideration and assuming just 1.7% of us got infected in wave one? Also assuming that they only missed 2/3 cases in April. What huge assumptions to make. More dubious evidence provided to justify this farce.

So 1.7% for something that has been around since before Christmas last year? Do they really think it started when RTÉ announced it?

Overly cautious, overly simplified, utterly idiotic...

this is utter ****e, utter crap and I am sickened.
My daughter is 8 months pregnant, she returned home from Canada in July. She is living under extreme pressure with a toddler in her in-laws. They have all had Covid and the toddler ended up in hospital. She is exhausted. I badly need to support her in her last weeks of pregnancy and when her baby is born. They are trying to rent a garage from a neighbour next week to get some space of their own.
She is on the phone crying just now, wishing she had stayed in Canada. She is absolutely distraught at these new restrictions. God what a ****ing country this is. 6 ****ing weeks of this, it feels like punishment. She cant come to me, I cant go to her. I feel sick for them being stuck here now in this ****hole

Going by what was said I would think you can visit, for caring and compassionate grounds this would fit into that category.

    That counts as essential so

George Lee couldn’t help himself with his ‘NPHET said we should’ve done this two weeks ago’.
Eh no - judging by the statistics you just gave us re the 6 week lockdown and reopening in some shape or form for December, we just about get to mid January, if even before cases go up again. I think George doesn’t understand some of the data he spouts...

Lee is one of those fairly unintelligent people that likes to think he comes across as intelligent. The fact he has no grasp of data or reality is not surprising. He's in summary a tabloid level sensationalist.

Do what you think is right to do. It is essential you remain a thinking for yourself and loving human being. Regardless of everything else. It is essential.

No, not interested. If stopped I'll have some work or family yarn. Passed caring.

I really hope not. There's no reason behind it. The data is flawed, the analysis is flawed, the ICU numbers are minimal, and the majority are not at any significant risk, with many showing no symptoms even if they DO get it.

It's an absolute joke. It will kill businesses, and it will destroy mental health.

Completely essential and justifiable. Pair yourself with them as your "bubble" or whatever they are calling it if needed.

Besides, no judge is going to prosecute anyone for going to see their daughter who is distraught and in late stage pregnancy

More fool you then. Never mind those idiots, go see your daughter.

Yeah I’m not bothering with the whole thing to be honest.

Previous lock down I worked in an essential business but that business decided to go further and lock down certain areas and employees even though they didn’t need to. Already told that’s not the case now.

I’ll keep my social distance, I’ll wear my mask, I’ll sanitise, I’ll not visit other houses etc but after that nah.

I won’t be staying within 5k of my house, I’ll be going to the beach for walks with the kids like I have been doing, I’ll head off on my bike for a couple of hours when I get the chance. I’ll visit family if they’re happy for me to visit and allow them to visit my house if they feel comfortable etc

Vast majority of people I know feel the exact same to be honest.

Charlie14, I simply do not have time for waffle. Time and time again you are avoiding answering simple questions. You either have an opinion or not, and say so. Cop outs is all you do.

You have done nothing but waffle.
I answered your question. My opinion is that immunity is as close to zero as makes little difference.
Where you thought there was herd immunity in that beats me. Other than you perhaps having some believe in acquired herd immunity.
If you do, then give us your figure and how you came to it.
If not then stop acting the eejit asking others the question.

P.S. It would be an idea if you are going to give a figure, and how you calculated it ,to have regard for all the failed large scale research studies that have been proven wrong rather than go wasting peoples time.

RTÉ admitted that lockdown doesn’t work. Even if this lockdown brings case numbers down, they expect them to start rising in January.

So what will we do then? Level 5 again in February?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,235 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

I feel for people who are going to be out of work again and for the businesses who employ them who might not recover from this second lockdown.

    It's a bad situation.

Martin bladdering on about christmas, thats cold comfort to the thousands of workers who are going to be out of a job.

The shops tomorrow will be awful, and then the big rush in December when they reopen.

    Yes.

    What’s the alternative?

Claire of course opening with the wrong question - does Donnelly think people might be angry because they took 2 weeks to go to Level 5? We could be 2 weeks into it now.

No you dope.. they're angry because their business is about to close, their job is about to go, they'll struggle to make their bills and provide for Christmas, and because there's no reason for it!

Older people at funerals & younger at weddings. High vs Low risk groups

That's the way it's looking until a vaccine is produced. I still believe that this is more about control over people, especially the 5km limit.

Like many have said already I stuck to the rules for the most part last time but won't be this time.

Sounds to me from hearing Donnelly that they waited until "Europe" went first so they can point and say they're following the experience/standard

Typical if true.. subservient and weak as always
