As to herd immunity, do you believe it is possible to be a little bit pregnant ?
From my previous answer to your question it appears you do

Sorry, I messed up the editing before posting. What did you say was the immunity level again?

I’m genuinely interested in how you view transmissions and infections - might give insight into the baffling views I hear from a few people every day.

So herd immunity means total immunity for all?

No one is infected ever again?

Herd immunity is a terrible term for the phenomenon, it might help to think of it as herd protection.

So you agree it meets the definition but doesn’t mean that’s what it means??? Are you sure you even know the definition of the word definition Charlie?

Stop nit picking on a medical definition.
What practical use has it in real terms if you can still become infected and in turn infect others

And does that approach sound logical or sustainable to you?

It sounds logical in the absence of an alternative. It doesn't sound sustainable as I implied in my post.

And where does a vaccine that may not prevent infections but reduces the more serious symptoms in some fit in?

    Don't lockdown?

You refer to "the problem": what is/was the problem?
    0 death today?
    ICU at normal capacity?

The 'problem' is that Covid thing that's doing the rounds. Maybe you've heard about it...

If the government and NPHET really feel this lockdown is necessary, they should go on the PUP payment for the duration of it as a show of solidarity.

Will they do that? Will they f*ck!

Hard for to understand how they can sleep at night with all the blood on their hands.

Why didn't they create extra ICU beds ?
They had 7 months to plan for this and they did nothing .
30 extra ICU beds is all they could muster, Sweden doubled their capacity in 3 weeks.
    Its shambolic.

    Why are you asking me?

    I agree, it's shambolic.

I really do not believe you are that interested. If you were you would know that any of the modelling figures on herd immunity have been miles out and the one example of where it was claimed the figures stacked up the bottom fell out of bucket within 3 days due to rising numbers.
If you did not know, then you do now.

The "5km rule" is hilarious, supermarkets are well beyond 5km distance for those in rural areas.

You obviously don't know what the rule is then.

What studies are you basing your hypothesis on?

My non medical education would lean me towards agreeing with you, but Id like to see studies on this. Studies where it has been attempted and what the results were. M

While you are a confident and assertive poster, who makes interesting points, I've yet to see you post any resources to back up your claims in the forum. I asked you in a separate thread about one such matter but you didnt reply.

Of course you're under no obligation to, and for all we know you could be Tony Holohan himself. But its an observation.

Hello, and sorry for the delay in replying. I must confess to getting through only a small fraction of the postings here.

Your question is a reasonable one, and there is in fact very little evidence based research on it, as it tends to be dismissed very early in any strategy discussions by those who have given it serious consideration. The following article outlines some of the issues involved, though I am not familiar with the work of the authors.

Care to supply your figures and how they were calculated.
If you can do that then you will be a world first if you get it right.
If you cannot then who is waffling ?

If lockdown doesnt work then back to the drawing board

I don’t think they had a first. They had restrictions yeah but an actual lockdown I don’t think was implemented. Happy to be corrected tho.

They even had a five mile radius restriction the first time around.

Sorry wasn’t clear - have a reasonable knowledge of herd immunity and reading more ongoing - interested in how you and some others with similar opinions arrive at them.

So if a vaccine may not prevent infections, where are we then?

Transmission will be same as now will it not?

Is this true? That the forecast models NPHET are using aren’t taking T cell immunity into consideration and assuming just 1.7% of us got infected in wave one? Also assuming that they only missed 2/3 cases in April. What huge assumptions to make. More dubious evidence provided to justify this farce.

You know it’s possible to understand the necessity of it and not be delighted that it has to happen. But it’s people, a number of them posting here who had no respected for the restrictions that has landed us here and they need to look in the mirror when they are looking for someone to blame for job losses etc.
