Nothing has changed really, just the obvious. Protective glassing at the counters, social distancing markers etc.

A few people about but, not many in the screens so rows of seats between people

I'll let you know how I get on. It's a one screen local cinema and I've heard that numbers have been restricted. It's never busy so I don't think that will be an issue.

hope so but think MM is more likely to trust 'Health officials' who are not interested in the economy of the it all and would feel safer with them shut esp with a bank holiday weekend on the horizon

Jesus, thought we were beyond this crap. If pubs are closed for the bank holidays it'll just be house parties, people are socialising now, you won't stop it.

But what about the staff member who has dozens of these interactions every day and hundreds every week? Perhaps they catch an unlucky break.

Is there also a 'confidence trick' here? Maybe it's only me but I would feel safer and more likely to return to a cafe where staff wear face coverings.

I think it’s becoming clearer by the day that Ireland needs FG in power at this moment in time. Leo is a much more able leader who took on board the situation and got the reopening to where it is now. Without their decisions to move forward, we’d still only be in a 20km zone and nothing of note reopening until July 20th or August 10th. I’ve enjoyed being back out and about in the world, despite the protocols in place. I think businesses are welcoming feedback at this point in time as to how consumers are finding their new normal experience.
I think the vilification of families who were considering a break to the sun was absolutely shameful. All the while citizens from the US and other red zones were allowed to enter here.
The government should have provided up to date advice and allowed travel within the EU. It also should have insisted that airlines allow a free flight change to its passengers if flights fall on days where a non-essential travel advisory is in place. They did nothing to protect the Irish public and everything to protect themselves.

It doesn’t bode well for the coming months when clear decisive action needs to be taken re schools, childcare, businesses, etc and be subject to change and quick reactions to an ever changing environment. Not this dithering and no mans land. It won’t get us anywhere.

It’s not bizarre and your answer to your question is in my previous post. I’ve spoken to many people over the last few days that have said this to me. They wouldn’t be FG voters usually.
Our new Government’s first week or two in charge has involved vilifying families with holiday bookings without actually doing anything to help them, now twisting the knife on pubs which might actually control some of the many many house parties taking place, and running a soap box about Barry Cowen and his convictions - FYI this is a national crisis and nobody cares, get on with the job or get out.

Yeah, at the moment the infections aren't out of control. So I don't see why they wouldn't move forward according to the plan. I don't think there's a lot of difference in "pubs open" and "pubs open, but you have to eat for €9" anyway.

Eh, no, it isn't... all of that was going on when FG were in power. Like, it was literally the other week! And they did nothing.

"Twisting the knife on pubs" - what?! For the record, as reported, many pubs decided "**** the national crisis, let's sell booze!" and did so, without following the fairly reasonable guidelines. Hence sudden uptick in numbers and R number, especially in under 45s, hence anyone with a modicum of sense going yeah, maybe hang back some more on opening pubs if this is the result... including NPHET, who advise the government, regardless of whether that's FF or FG.

as a FF member im appalled at the start to government, micheal is like a rabbit in headlights at the minute, absolutely nothing from him,if this is what its going to be like FF will be wiped out in next election again. I dont know but it looks like chaos town on horizon with schools and everything . i dont see the problem at all with pubs, how long ago is it now that tony H, referred to the gangs drinking on the canal? wheres the wave ? its a safer option to open all pubs and keep the public on side , if they renage on this there will be no buy in at all form the public, when the place is full of USA and UK residents. The genie is well and truly out of the bottle now , just contain it should be the way forward. i genuinely am seeing each day this vilification of pubs i dont know where its coming from or why.

Yeah the last two weekends , I've been to small ish gatherings to celebrate events, rented place on airbnb. If they think k people will reach suicide levels of depression before going out to socialise. The morons in nphet in government are even bigger morons than I thought.

The country was locked down and schools shut after a total of 34 cases confirmed. Yesterday there where 32 cases in 1 day, 100 cases in 1 week and theyre continuing with reopening the country, allowing international travel from high risk countries and not following the advice of medical experts. The new government have left the public high and dry, Michael martin might as well be Boris Johnson. We're a sinking ship.

he country was locked down and schools shut when we had unquantitfied and uncontrolled spread of a new virus which we had little knowledge of and were not prepared for. Now we have a small number of active cases, we have a lot of knowledge on the virus and how to treat it, large stockpiles of PPE and surge plans in hospitals, a contact tracing system and app, huge public awareness of the need for social distancing and handwashing etc, significant WFH, capacity limitations in public interact businesses and ban on large gatherings. Even the international travel you refer to is only a fraction of what it was in March. Drawing comparisons between now and when lockdown started is nonsense, the situation is completely different to what it was in March.

Don't be getting so high and mighty when making ridiculous statements on the basis of two numbers looking similar.

When they closed the schools we still had thousands returning from skiing trips, Cheltenham etc, all the while offices were full of people working in close proximity. Socailising was still normal and testing/contact tracing was non existent. None of these cases had surfaced yet. You cannot compare the 34 cases in March to yeaterdays 32.

The FF side of government has been poor but I'd give them a small out in that you can't just get up and running when you haven't been in normal functioning government in well over a decade. Having to dump someone so fast is not a good sign either. As for pubs, well they're just the latest in a very long line of things to be blamed, most for no good reason. I think they want to do it right and see the risk in not doing so, especially in finances. Like other phases I don't think we'll see an enormous surge.
