Very irrate publican on Newstalk now, absolutely livid so she is.
I don't understand this sudden need for masks either when we've been shopping for months without them to no ill effect. 14 new cases today, very disappointed by this reaction.
Another lad on now talking about eliminating the virus from the country, what cloud are these clowns on.

It's been done to death in these threads at this stage but the social distancing/ mask wearing strategy is far further a long in some other countries than it is here.

If Belfast is an option I'm going up. Is the virus stopping at pub and nightclub doors on the revised date now? Jesus this country is an obscene banana republic... they'll change their minds again on the revised dates... publicans should open again en masse. Dont want to piss of a few American tourists but prepared to **** over and potentially shut down businesses here permanently. Hundreds of thousands of jobs on the line. The country purposely cruising towards the financial abyss titanic iceberg!

I hope there is zero bailout this time , round two of economic suicide... last them deal with the cowardice ramifications...

It's hard to fathom what the fcuk is going on to to be quite honest.

What figure are we hoping to get to? - I'm starting to fear it's 'zero' and the lunatics have taken over.

Lockdown is not a tool to eliminate the virus - we live in an open economy and we need to deal with it like mature adults not frightened children.

As for the face-coverings in shops - absolutely stupid and will affect the shop workers far more than the customers. Why are my local Dunnes staff not dropping like flys despite months of working in supermarkets when none of them and fcuk all of the customers are wearing masks?

Logic has been well and truly fcuked out the window. Depressing to watch the Government flush yet more viable business and jobs down the toilet for no reason. I hope some of the publicans take a class action.

If there is one small positive to take from today, it’s that more and more people are starting to get sick of this nonsense.

We need to understand what the plan is and how do we get there.

The restrictions suggest that we are trying to get the numbers as close as possible to 0. Possibly eradicate the virus.

But allowing flights in from other badly hit countries goes against the eradication. Any open borders goes against that.

Flattening the curve is not the goal because it was flattened in early May.

Preventing the hospitals getting overwhelmed can’t be the plan... we only have 10 in ICU.

It feels like Martin has just panicked because a backlog was added to yesterday’s figures. Keep the pubs closed for 3 weeks more and copy the UK on face masks.

Disgusting leadership in this country. We have no idea what we are doing. Caving our economy while praying a better country will give us a vaccine.

It's arbitrary bollocks, a scandalous decision by our incumbent government. Could one expect any less from Micheál the moocher. On the one hand you have tourists from Covid-19 hotspots running around Ireland without a care in the world, meanwhile publicans who can implement social distancing are kicked to the kerb. Having heavily invested in stock, the rug suddenly pulled from under them with very little notice. Our government venerates the dollar, yet at the same time pisses down on small business owners in this country. Shameful.

Its easy to be angry but if you think about it its understandable. R number is rising even with pubs and clubs closed and it will rise even more over the next few weeks with them closed. The last time around it was a bit different. It was mostly old people getting infected but this time its mostly young people. So although cases are rising it seems like ICU numbers and hospital admissions aren't rising yet, but its too early to say if this trend is likely to continue or not. In 3 weeks we will have a clearer picture. If I was in charge id do the same.

Would love to see every pub open on Monday and packed out as a show of unity against these spineless politicians. Denying Irish citizens their right to earn a living whilst allowing tourists from America and Brazil to roam around the place unhindered.

Personally I think the decisions are strange.

I'm 100% in favour of mandatory facemasks being worn anywhere you can't socially distance. That's a step forward anyway for people who literally need things spelled out before they'll endure even minor inconvenience for others. It will be safer for everyone to go out as a consequence of this.

Pubs reopening closer to the date schools have as their target for reopening is not great. Obviously the same feckless idiots who need there to be a law before they wear a mask in public will likely also be having house parties where spreading the virus will be a big risk and the rest will head up North for a pint. Maybe it'll only affect selfish people like them, but I doubt it and I pity their families.

My sister is hell-bent on getting us to drop our threshold of risk and come in to their house, likely because she wants me to babysit three kids for her. She's two declined invitations away from an outburst. I won't put my dependents at risk by going near anyone, especially someone who clearly isn't taking precautions. A short-term action in this can have long-term, far reaching and even fatal consequences. We've only had friends out the back garden, it's been absolutely fine and the risks which go with bringing them in to the house doesn't seem worth whatever supposed gain there is.

As for the tourism sector, whatever money is made from the yanks coming in is going to be lost tenfold by the spread of the virus around the country. Allowing people to fly out of the country while telling them not to is short-sighted and naïve. Its bizarre that this has been talked about all week and no satisfactory action has been taken... It's almost like those making the decisions have a financial stake in the hospitality and rental property sectors! Irish people are being forced into a situation where they're prisoners on their own island with visitors coming to have a look at them like some sort of human zoo.

Enjoy wearing your masks, I'll definitely enjoy seeing it, especially when I'm thinking about the people here who are outraged about it.

Alarming to read some of the comments here and the effects alcoholism has on certain folk to a point of wishing ruin on the country because of being denied a pint. Hope you lads can get the help you need to recover.

I get everyone's different, but this for me would be no life worth living. We did it for 2/3 months of lockdown, but now I'll take the risk to see friends and family.

While you are correct on the hypocrisy of the Irish government, you are on one hand saying you want all pubs open and packed and on the other complaining about US tourists. How do you think the US got into the situation its in today?

Pubs have been closed since mid March. I think people were looking forward to a few drinks and some socialising. Not everyone that drinks is an alcoholic.

- Phase 4 delayed
- face coverings should be worn by all customers and staff in shops unless separated by a screen
- pubs, bars, hotel bars remain closed until 10th August
- social visits recommended to be limited to 10 visitors from no more than 4 households
- public gathering limits extended to 10th August

I work in one of those essential services and I have been following the restrictions with as much common sense as I can. I wash my hands, keep my distance from people, haven't visited my family in months, haven't had a social life in months, basically I have done little but work and sleep since March.

What is happening now is utter bull****. I'm no rabble rouser but I know when I am being sold a pup and right now we are being taken for fools.

Bollocks to the lot of it, they can shove their restrictions up their arse. House party? Trip up North? Cans in Dame Lane? Sign me up. And I'll be happy to support any business that decides to open up and be damned to the lot of them because they have nothing left to lose.
