Sad to see another business close. I needed to get a new car seat for my little boy too! As for Pandora, I have never been inside the door and was always wondering how the kept going. Tralee didn't seem like the right place for them to be really. I think any jewellers could sell Pandora, so a stand alone shop didn't make sense in a small town.

Sad for the staff though, not nice for them.

Where was Pandora, don't think I ever heard of them. Only place I can think of is possibly Martin Cleary's shop opposite the Daily Grind?.

A lot of places closing down now. Sad.

I would love to have seen the queue outside this morning...not stand in it, just see the amount of people who got up early to stand and wait for it to open!

I'll probably give it a week before I venture in. I have no patience to queue!

Just seeing some of the queues on social media for Penneys in Dublin and Cork, sheer madness. Imagine queuing for hours for some 2 Euro flip flops or knickers when you can just walk in tomorrow as normal with no queue.

Not nice for the staff at all of course but we are lucky enough in Tralee to have one of Irelands best independent nursery stores, Tralee nursery supplies

I didn't personally buy anything in there when we had our little boy, but I know my mom did buy a few things for us from them. She did comment that she was shocked at the prices though, but she wasn't able to get the particular items in Mothercare so she hadn't much choice at the time.

We do need a new car seat for our fella as he's getting to big for the older one, so I will have a look in there to see what they have.

Do for sure but maybe try Halfords also, they have a great range.

Also ,there seems to be some very good local buy and sell pages. We have 4 boys and My wife has sold a few car seats on those pages, worth a try.

I didn't realise Halfords do car seats! I know Smyths do some, but they never seemed to have as good a range as Mothercare.

If they ever bother reopening. Some Halfords stores have been open all week but not the Tralee store.

We bought one from Halfords a while ago, because what they had was better than what Smyths or Mothercare had.

When you don't need something asap - tralee gas supplies are very good at holding items and paying off a little at a time. We found them to be excellent.

I do remember pricing a couple of things in Mothercare before and after we had our baby, and then going down to Smyths and finding them a lot cheaper for the same things! I did like Mothercare, but they were expensive too. We ended up getting our cotbed and changing table from Ikea though, as it was the best price we found around and what I was looking for. Sometimes its not always possible to shop local.

Maybe they want the Mitchel's renamed the Martin Luther King Junior's?

I see that frozen yogurt shop in Rock street is reopening. They have changed their name to FroYoLand. I think they closed at Christmas. I have still not been in but I would love to try it out!

That is not true.He applied for a gun permit after his home was bombed in 1956, which was denied by the Alabama authorities.
He did not have a gun in his home. He had armed security guards around his property for protection of him and his family, after the horrible attempt to kill them.
The NRA and other gun fanatics like to portray Dr. King as a gun aficionado, and it is false. In 1959 he disavowed all guns and did not have any after that time.
He lived his principles of peace.

Well they are currently still closed and not making any effort to reopen from what I can see. Was in the Killarney store yesterday evening.

I think it's the same story as lifestyle - lease running out, but they have nowhere to go unlike lifestyle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 556 ✭✭✭bobdcow

I saw on Radio Kerry that the garadí have asked people not to be queuing up on the roadside to get a McDonalds, since they opened it's been very busy at times outside it

Would I be causing trouble if I went to town park for a 5km run.?? With all the large farm machinery on the roads where I live, its a bit dangerous. I live about 6km from the park.
I wonder what would be a good time when it's quite. No hassle if I have to wait longer until restrictions ease up!

So they're being kicked out by the building's new owner? Doesn't make sense to part ways with such a dependable tenant in the current environment, unless they have bigger plans?

It would make sense to recombine the three ground-floor units back into one. As I've said before, one of the town centre's biggest issues is a plethora of vacent small units but a lack of more sizable units.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 556 ✭✭✭bobdcow

From what I remember it is Elvery's that are choosing to move rather than being kicked out. To be honest it's been a while since I met the person who told me, I've the story half forgotten.

Deciding to move without having another unit lined up doesn't really make much sense either, unless they think the lease is too saucy for the level of business they're doing in Tralee.

They had a lease lined up..and the owner moved the goalposts, so they are looking at new property in the town

Was told they were looking at the old Specsavers but I’m sure someone else took a lease out on that. Might be wrong.

Specsavers is being developed by a casino group.. planning permission sought for it and to be knocked thru at the back to the old pet shop....
There is a 6 page objection from the Castle St traders...so I'd be surprised if it goes ahead

You can travel anywhere in the county now, there are no travel restrictions since Monday, but only within the county! So you can go to the park no problem. Probably early in morning a good time or evening.

That’s the one! I knew I heard a story about it before alright. Maybe they have a deal waiting if it falls through then. Would make sense about what I was told.

I re-read your message, I thought I read it as people were queuing on foot and I had said they don't allow that! Although its possible people have been chancing their arm and trying to queue on foot! Its not a great system the way the traffic goes in. As soon as it backs up you can't drive in and the traffic just stops. Its a bit ridiculous.

Was in the Horan Centre Dunnes earlier this afternoon and noted how it has almost returned to normal. The aisles are back to the way they were rather than the one way walk system and they are clearly allowing a lot more people in at the time - hardly any queuing.

Same with small tescos, no que and was busy enough in there, busy enough for there to have been a que like. Nobody checking were you sanitising either, didn’t even notice if there was a station there but there might have been.

Didn’t have something I wanted so went to manor and although there was no que here either there was an aisle for queuing with security there.

I went for a stroll into town this eve (8pm), all the bins, bar one, around the mall and the square are overflowing with rubbish. The whole place looks desperate.

Agreed, bins were even rammed about 4pm, I guess the forced take away food trade that is the fashion now is adding to this problem.
Still though, there was a good crowd about the town all the same.
