Like any virus it will live on surfaces for a time.

If you're wearing a mask, try not to touch it. Potentially you're transferring virus to the mask and your face - your mask also potentially has virus on it, so if you're taking it off at home you should be trying to minimise touch & washing your hands afterwards.

    Words fail me.

Yes those exact numbers and if you want to dramatise it even more, why not add Italy and Spain to it? Now you’ve shown you are a bit of a mathematician so I want you to take those absolute figures of death you cited and express them as a percentage of the total populations of those countries, Italy and Spain included. Throw in the non lockdown countries of Sweden and Belarus too and why not the states that didn’t shut down in America too. Then compare those numbers to death rates due to flu and also work out the percentage of the population under the age of 82 that have died from the virus. If you can do all that and come back to me with an intelligent overview of the figures, I might listen to you. If you can’t, happy hiding, your lockdown continues.

There's nearly 400,000 people dead from this, worldwide, most of them in the last three months. 400,000 people that would otherwise be alive. What sort of gowl are you?!

You stated that, "It's all over now." It's quite blatant that it's not. It's okay to be wrong.

Oh no its hilarious the hysteria and faux outrage combined with outright illogical claims of some of the regulars from the anti-vaxers to the lads who said "its just a cold" to the ones who couldn't comprehend how the worst case scenario was avoided. Most seem to have seen sense since yesterday but some are still ranting on. Its great fun thread to read!

No offence but that sounds like paranoia.

PS im worried that you think covid lives on surfaces forever, let me assure you it does not.

You do realize a lot of people use their car more than once a day don't you.

I personally only wear masks at the supermarket and petrol station, its not to protect me from getting it, its to protect others from getting it in case I have it. I don't wear a mask if out walking. I will be wearing it in any outlet now with them reopening.

I bet if you were living in New York you would be wearing one non stop and would be giving out if others weren't wearing them.

If the Virus doesn't spike up in the next Two or Three weeks I'm definitely not worrying about it over the Summer months. I'm personally optimistic or perhaps blindly optimistic that it may weaken out but if there is another Wave in Autumn, least I'd of had a great Summer before it comes back in bigger numbers.

Ssshhh...don't go spoiling their sterotyping. It means so much to them.

(Also been working through this and been outside frequently for work, shopping, and exercise, which is weird, considering all the claims that we were locked in our homes...I never noticed.)

Same here ! All of my house hold working and out there throughout whether we wanted to or not .
Most of us that have been stereotyped as scare mongers have been posting that it was said when the roadmap was published that some phases may move quicker than others depending on the R0 , which is what has happened.
If wanting to stick to restrictions so that the virus was properly suppressed and we could be where we are now , then I am guilty as charged , but I am happy with the situation as it is now and feel a lot safer both at work and at home .
Haven't had much time to be concerned about pubs or my hair, which thankfully is its natural colour ,and have lost ton of weight through stress and work , so looking forward to a nice staycation and spending some money locally to boost our economy .
    Stay safe out there all.

I think the US and UK will have significant second surges with the various bits of upheaval going on.

That poses a risk to our progress.

If it doesn't spike in the next nine days then an outdoor mass gathering of 5,000 people is negligible.

Im not against masks dont get me wrong, what im against is assuming that either I or everybody else has covid.

You are doing a good job at wearing mask but do you really have covid? Or, do you really plan on wearing the mask and protecting others until vaccine is rolled out? Just very curious to know at which stage a mask wearer will stop wearing a mask.

Well its been over a week since the protests started and so far we haven't seen a significant outbreak in relation to them. There also hasn't been a single case from that big outdoor party in Missouri a few weeks that people were up in arms about at the time.

    Excellent

Were some of the larger stores blindsided by this? They’ve had three months of closure and given the fluidity of the situation you’d think would have had the shops ready with the token signage bs that they need to comply with. I guess with all the doom and gloom from the likes of Harris it’s understandable to a large extent.
The shopping centre delay thing was a sop to the cautious lockdowners- a day or two and they’d have moved out benches etc to be ready

And the Penney Huns made a tribal call everywhere.

Does anyone know if there's a chance for swimming pools to reopen in Phase 3?

Thats a quiet naive opinion in the context of Covid 19. Takes a lot more than a week to see the fallout. Probably a month to see exactly the fallout once contact tracing etc is completed and reported into the databases.

Getting staffing levels back up to speed is the bigger obstacle I'd imagine than throwing out a few signs and stock.

We are in a good place now.

Would one wonder if the Covid payment was a hindrance? I would imagine majority Penney’s staff are part time probably not earning much more than €350 per week?

Cheltenham took place on March 10th-13th. By March 18th there were news reports of Cheltenham punters claiming to be showing symptoms of COVID-19

Well the partying seen over the memorial day weekend is a few weeks ago now and hasn't led to spikes or mass outbreaks so I'm hopeful that the protests won't either

    The justifications keep coming ....
It was actually funny watching the white people with the "use your white privilege" signs at the end direct provision/BLM protest this evening. 2,000 people in Dublin who do not care about Irish lives definitely not practicing social distancing.

The fact that this farce was allowed to continue for a second weekend is a signal from our government that the restrictions are over.

I’d say they have plans in place since March on how they’ll operate and layout their stores with the new guidelines in place, but it’s just a case of rostering all their staff and having the manpower to remove all the old stock/mark down the prices, put out the new summer stock, and reorganising the whole layout of the shop.
Some staff still won’t be able to come back to work due to lack of childcare so that might be why there’s rostering issues as well.

I passed the Penney’s in Cork on Wednesday and looked in the window and they still had massive displays of gift ideas for Mother’s Day in there, Mother’s Day was mid March wasn’t it? Carrig Donn had Easter baskets in their window display too.
It’s crazy to think that they’ve been shut all that time.

So I think they just need a few days to get organised, two days notice especially for a large store just isn’t enough to get all that done and train their staff in the new procedures.

Definitely a major decider in there relaxing of restrictions, the largest age group in Ireland 18 to 30 bracket , would be the most likely to attend the protests once the government lost that age bracket support.
It is no surprise to see the easing of restrictions sped up

No argument, no debate, just a complete refusal to listen to any other point of view except the dictatorial one.

By your own reasoning the majority of people obey without question and only those like your good self have critical reasoning capacity and that is why you think you are correct in doing what you think is right and not the rules that other ordinary folk follow... Because they are sheep, or afraid?
