The sunset from m17 above is for me one of the most memorable things about this recent period of good weather in the west. We have had some beautiful sunsets and evening skyscapes. They have been a fitting finale for some glorious days. We have been quite fortunate. Below a couple of snaps taken around sunset in central Mayo yesterday evening.

Other than a band of cloud moving down from the north its dry here in Castlebar with brighter skies following in the past hour.

Dry but cloudy again in cork city.

Yep same in my area, big drop in temperature from recent days too. The change in weather conditions is underway.

Seems we will have to get used to these conditions for the near future at least. If I recall correctly it was around this weekend in 2019 when the weather deteriorated big time after a warm settled spell around Easter and lasted well in to June. Hopefully there won`t be the same pattern this year.

Beautiful day again in Donegal with blue skies and sunshine

I think today is a reality check that we are still in April. Temperatures looks more seasonal over the next 2 weeks with low teens at best, maybe mid teens in one or two places. Hopefully June 2020 won't be a repeat of June 2019, I don't want to experience another June like that for a long time to come!

Another lovely day here in Castlebar with long spells of sunshine. Great visibility. No dirt in that northerly airflow!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,023 ✭✭✭Donegal Storm

Yep some serious heat in that sun today, very noticeable compared to the past few weeks, had to go in and put sun cream on earlier as could feel myself burning.

Today is as nice as any other day this month here, Gonzo's predictions definitely haven't come to pass!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,696 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Cloudy all day in cork city. Just got very dark and had a very heavy shower.

Variances across the country this week are crazy!

your very lucky, it's drizzly and cold here in Meath. Almost a 10C drop on this time yesterday!

Temperatures struggling to reach double figures across much of Meath, Dublin, Kildare, Offally and Wicklow.

Is cold here today in North County Dublin. About 11 degrees.

Looks like it going to rain all day but hasn't yet. I'd say it's on the way.

Big change to yesterday but well predicted.

Yesterday morning, despite the 'dirty' air mass, was just about the most beautiful I have seen this year. Solid hazy blue sky and golden sun. This morning was in total contrast to that, dull and gloomy with the slight hint of a damp chill (despite no rain falling at all). As Gonzo said, it served as a almost cruel reminder that we are still in April. Sun breaking through now and despite the 13-14 temp, it feels every bit as warm in it as recent days. (as noted by Donegal Storm)

Shows what a huge difference the sun can make at this time of year, technically only 11C here yet I was roasting in the garden in shorts and t-shirt.

The day has suddenly changed here now with black cumulus clouds bubbling up and some spits of rain. Maybe you weren't so wrong after all :pac:

Also today is the first time I've really noticed land based convection this year, hopefully we start seeing mention of thundery showers the the forecasts from now on

a damp, cold and drizzly evening here in Meath, just after putting the heating on for the first time in 2 weeks and will be lighting the fire soon as well.

Cloudy and had a drop (literally) of rain.

Fire lit in a Louth since 6pm . A dull, still , cold , depressing day . Apart from a 2 hour walk I did very little. Fires are great on days like this !

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 12,217 Mod ✭✭✭✭Meteorite58

Likewise feeling cool with no direct sunlight all day, 9.8C now and put the heat on for an hour .

Rainfall amounts not huge apart from parts of Leinster earlier in the day and showers around Cork late afternoon. Just to note the models over done the rainfall predictions the last few days as seen in the forecasts , Fri was looking like heavy localized showers but did not materialize and again today heavy showers were predicted for Southern counties but not much of note there.

Not enough heat really for any convective showers to appear unfortunately.

Sky is a beautiful purple colour which is surprising because it was a such a cloudy day today.

Hopefully that means tomorrow might be nice.

Another day that wasn't as bad as expected in Dublin 5, no rain at all. Cloudy though.

A light drizzle upon my garden, most welcome. Now feck off before I have to go out tomorrow.

lovely day in Meath, mostly sunny and dry, milder than yesterday too with a temperature of 12C. Looks like we might stay dry till about Wednesday.

Beautiful sunny day here beside the coast in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin.

As the east never really got in on the past two weeks of 'heatwave' action the temps today feel no colder really than the previous few days.

It actually feels milder than many of the days over the past 2 weeks due to the lack of that chilling breeze.

Lovely day here earlier but cloudy the last few hours although its starting to break up again.
You could even make out Venus clearly in the deep blue sky.

100% - warmest day on the East coast I think , especially if you were in a nice sunny spot. That cold easterly breeze was gone.

Another day of unbroken sunshine here as well, could see shower clouds to the south all day but they never encroached

Has been a very dry 6 weeks but looks like we might finally run out of luck over the rest of the week, still nothing too wet in the forecast but definitely more so than we've become used to

Is there any history to that Croghan mountain?
It is a name you see around a few places.
Are you referencing the place in Offaly?

Beautiful day here in Kerry, just got up to 13.7C but sunshine all day with a fresh clean N'ly air and Rh getting dow n to 65%, what a contrast to yesterday's grayness.

Didn't think the camera would focus enough to get a picture of it but it did, just about although it was clearer with the naked eye.

another nice day here in Meath, possibly the last dry day for some time to come. Currently 12C. At least we are not getting the misery that England and Wales are having today, currently struggling to get above 6C in parts of London.

Nice morning in Donegal but increasingly clouded over.

Sky at the moment reminds me of those humid thundery summer evenings we sometimes get, some interesting ragged cloud bases and different shades of grey and orange. Still dry for now though

Honestly thought that a twister was going to touch down here earlier such was the tortured black clouds that formed, but got hit by one single drop of rain instead.

    Ireland!

But speaking of twisters, this one was captured over in the States recently. Just incredible how quickly it develops from what was basically a small whirlwind.

    New Moon

Nice enough day in Cork City. Some very dark clouds at times but didn't rain once! When the sun was out it was very warm, then chilly when the clouds returned and then back to warm! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 529 ✭✭✭Goldfinch8

Another golden evening in this part of the west after another great spring day. The lovely calm conditions only helped to magnify the countryside chorus of birdsong. A bit of shower cloud seemed to bubble up east of here today but not a drop locally. Rain tomorrow but I have a bit of lawn seed out that will certainly welcome a drop of water. Has been a great spell overall.
