    freespace 2 is legendary.
Must have ploughed hundreds of hours into it back in the day.

Are you going to play it vanilla or modded?

Started Little Nightmares last night. Very Limbo/Inside feel from it.
What other games are similar to these? I played A Shadow's Tale on Wii and Typoman on Wii U

I played Black The Fall earlier in the year, and Deadlight a few years ago. I enjoyed both, and I'd say they're similar to Limbo/Inside (2D/isometric, light and shadow, dystopic, etc.) I've not played Little Nightmares yet, but it's on the list.

picked up no man's sky on sale recently. It has had a new expansion patch and it now supports VR. I decided to start in 2D to get the hang of the game. Really sucked me in and i have been too busy to even change to VR, must do that.

I had heard bad things about this game but i am really enjoying it.

Massive improvements. It was barely a "game" when it launched.

Really feel that Sony pushed them far too hard, prior to release, coupled with their inability to stop over promising

Just finished the "good" campaign in Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 1
So only have the evil, BFME2, and Rise of the Witch King to go

Found that game a bit frustrating. The unravelled games are similar albeit graphically not the same style

Completely board of gaming at the moment. Summer time i suppose, other things to do. Cant find anyting to get stuck into. Might try that Renmant from the ashes game and go back to Division 2 since update... currently about 80% through Metro Exodus and struggling to go back to finish.

Star Sector, No Mans Sky, Final Fantasy 14 and WoW Classic.

Probably won't play Classic for long, it's more just to enjoy the nostalgia for a while. FF14 is great, and i've just started Heavensward, which is supposed to be excellent, so really looking forward to that. Star Sector is a great little game, though i'm not sure how much more time i'll put into it. No Mans Sky i pop back into every now and again, to see what's been added in the latest update.

FF8 Remastered is out next week too, which i'm looking forward to playing.

I recommend not playing anything for a couple of weeks.
After a while you'll get the itch to go back to something you'll enjoy playing.

I've felt the same in the past. Bored, Can't find something to play or forcing myself to play something just to finish it.
Playing something else when you're burnt out will just give you a bad taste for that game.

I've found that taking a break is the best way to cleanse your gaming palette.

Remember it's supposed to be fun!! :D

Summer is like that. I have Skyrim, Kingdom Come and NMS to dive into over winter! :pac:

    Assassins Creed: Unity.

Hoo boy. Playing this over four years since it was released, after numerous patches and thankfully higher end hardware on the PC, at least meant I was able to avoid the technical ****show others faced at launch but what was left was...ugh. While the world was, both technically and artistically speaking, fantastic in places the characters and story were not only underwhelming in and of themselves but also within the context of the world they lived in. I never really felt part of it in the same way as the previous games. That would have been the most disappointing thing had it not been for the changes to combat which, off the top of my head, suffered from some of the worst levels of regression I can remember in a video game. Before, combat in the series could have been considered formulaic but now? Jesus.

    Penumbra series

The first game in the series, Overture, was a cracking little horror title. The standout feature is definitely the atmosphere throughout its subterranean world. It's rare, even today, for a game to be able to make you feel so alone and vulnerable even with such dated technology. Conversely, the combat is truly awful but at least the developers were aware of it. That leads to the second game, Black Plague. Gone is the awful combat to be replaced with a couple of stealth sections and a stronger focus on puzzles. While the atmosphere isn't as chock full of dread as its predecessor, it still manages to convey the feeling of something awful having happened in its corridors. The story and its delivery are also improved but what starts out as interesting soon devolves into straight up WTF territory which was somewhat disappointing. As for the third game, Requiem, I've played better mods in my life than this. Total waste of time.

    Dragon Age: Inquisition

Ran the full gamut of emotions on this one. Started it with my usual choice of Human Male Warrior with a keyboard and mouse setup and everything instantly felt wrong. Voice acting was uneven. The camera was all over the place. Click to move and interact was gone and combat was baffling - why doesn't my character move position when their target moves? Frustrated, I started again, this time going for a British-voiced Human Female Mage with a controller. The game just clicked, it's not Origins and it's not DA2, it's its own thing - this is fine. So began around 150hrs of some really great game. It's certainly not without its flaws and definitely has some pacing issues if you choose to do everything but I still enjoyed the **** out of it. Just finished the Trespasser DLC now and I'm currently torn between being pumped for DA4 and also rather afraid to read the Anthem-followup article on how ****ed its development is.

Oh well, at least I have its cracking soundtrack to do me for the next while. Speaking of, I'm a sucker for a cheesy, over the top cutscene but this one, after
    the fall of Haven
which uses a variation on the main theme with the cast singing, gets me.

So must play DA:I with keyboard?
I've given up so many times as the controls are so bad

Ugh, dont remind me. The single biggest disappointment I've suffered recently. I loved the DA series upto this, and as a keyboard & mouse user I tried to crack this. I dont recall how many hours I sunk before giving up, but I never went back.

    Its a big box o'sh1te.

Anyways still playing Dictator myself. Thankfull Tropico 6 lived upto its heritage.

Depends how you want to play it really. DA:O offers an experience much closer to the older Bioware/Black Isle style of games thanks to the isometric camera option. Not only did I prefer that view for nostalgia's sake but I also find it to be vastly more efficient for companion management during combat and moving around large environments. If a keyboard/mouse setup isn't required for that mode it's definitely advised.

Props for your patience, I didn't even make it out of the first valley before I had to start over. If you do have a controller then I'd still recommend giving it a shot though, if you're a fan of the series it's definitely a return to form after DA2.

Ah, god no then, controller all the way as far as I'm concerned.

While there has evidently been improvements made to the game post-release in terms of more customisation options for a mouse/keyboard setup, there have also been fundamental gameplay changes made which, imo, make the controller the most logical choice, at least from the perspective of someone who has put a considerable amount of time into the old Bioware/Black Isle games.

I enjoyed Inquisition a lot. Sunk around 200 odd hours in over two playthrough's. Always used the mouse and keyboard as well, and it was fine. A bit unresponsive at times, but never really bothered with the controller, even though i do usually use a controller for 3rd person games (like Assassins Creed).

Star Sector is my main game at the moment. Gradually building up a fleet after exploring a bunch of systems and finding AI cores to fund my soon to be colony.

Metro:Exodus. Decent game but i thought it would never end, just seemed to drag on and on in the last couple of levels.

That is the way I remembered the first Dead Space when I played it years ago. I replayed it recently and wasn't bad at all.

WOW Classic ,, wow is actually great again after so many years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭killanena

I haven't gotten around to playing Classic WoW yet. I played retail from a few months after release up until ICC in Wotlk. Went back for a swing in all the expansions after but never stayed for long.

I played on a few different private servers over the years too. 1.12.1, 2.4.3 and 3.5.5. When WoW classic got announced I was so hyped I went back to a TBC server I played on for 2 months and got burnt out of WoW again. So I can't yet bring myself to play classic knowing all too well the grind that is Vanilla.

At the same time I really don't want to miss out on all the world PvP that's going to happen next patch because the PvP system will be in place but not Bg's which will be a very unique experience. WoW is such a time sink for me. If I go back playing I won't play any of the other games I want to play.

All that being said, I've found myself opening the battle.net client twice after seeing a post, article or video on classic and nearly hitting that resub.

The time sink massively puts me off. I have subbed for one month but feel dirty playing it. I don't want to encourage a possible addiction. I just want to get to this fabled end game where you do massive raids. Its fairly boring at present. I'm at level 15.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,442 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

The raids in classic are not something you should be all that optimistic about. They've already all been cleared, as they are far more basic then anything in games these days. The social aspect of the game is what is drawing in most people. In the 10-12 levels i've done so far, i've talked to more people then in the previous 6 months on live.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭killanena

Also its a full time job instelf just to be raid ready. Pots, flasks, food, scrolls etc etc you won't be taken serious by a raiding guild if you don't have everything.

I find vanilla raids fun but they do get boring fast. Not much mechanics to most fights at all. If your manage depended expect to go out of man's and wand spam quite a bit. Most classes don't have more then 2/3 button rotation.

PvP is fun in vanilla but very unbalanced. The people that reach top rank will the people who live for WoW and have a massive support team such as streamers and guild leaders.

The magic of vanilla basically is the social aspect as mentioned above and the fact that the majory of the player base are never going to have best in slot gear. When you see someone that does they are like a celebrity lol. Obviously more of the player base will get to see this content this time around as many have plenty of practice from private servers and if Blizzard decide not to move on to TBC.

I would be interesting to see them do something similar to old school runescape and expand on vanilla WoW instead or moving onto TBC. Plenty of zones locked off to players that were never used until Cata.

Phase 1 yes but only top guilds who have basically lived on private servers the last decade.

5 more phases of content to come still.
