I always see DA:I getting some slack. I really enjoyed it. The dual wield tempest and assassin were really fun to play and the Knight Enchanter pre nerf was godly not to mention the lore. I really enjoyed the Dragon Age games. Even 2.

Assassin with the grappling hook fighting a dragon is tremendously good fun.

I am struggling with finding a new game. Currently For Honor and the RE2 Remake are taking up all my time but with S+ got for both Leon and Claire I am not too keen on another playthrough.

Scouring the steam library for an RPG I might have missed is depressing. Will have to give a few JRPG's a shot until something else comes along.

Can anyone recommend a decent one similar to Lost Odyssey and FF7-10?
They are the extent of my JRPG knowledge.

Have you tried Pillars of Eternity?
I think there was a big expansion or something for it recently too.

I agree , i only played a few hours but quite enjoyed its gameplay.
I think i got distracted by other games back then but it was one i said i would return to but havent as of yet.

I have Pillars in my library and I have tried to a good few times to get through it but the story just didnt grip me. I will give it a another try because I have heard great things about Pillars 2.

I downloaded Alpha Protocol last night. For an old game its not bad. Good even.

Tried Return to Obra Din last night. I've been massively put off by the graphics style but the constant high scores it get can't be wrong. Never played anything like it. It's like a live version of cluedo. If you were into point&click games in the past, you'll love this. Still undecided at the art style. It's unique and I couldn't imagine it looking any other way but it's still awful to look at.

I left out that I think its excellent

So much potential, ruined by absolute ****e combat. Story is fun though, and your choices actually have a big impact on the game.

    It's a guilty pleasure that's for sure.
Once you accept it for what it is. A big dumb action game.

You won't see an RE game like this again however as Capcom have done a course correction with the brilliant RE7 & RE2 Remake and have essentially rediscovered what an RE game actually is.

I think it's main issue is that there are remants of old school Resi in its DNA (like the herbs) which hold it back from being a truly great action game. The camera is awkward and clunky and it lacks a cover system like Tomb Raider or Uncharted.

That said, RE2-R turned out great. No regrets there.

Regarding RE6, it's still my most played RE titles of all time because of Mercenaries. Having paid the full price (die hard RE fan) I still can't complain no matter how much hate I've seen it get over the years. Playing No Mercy Mercs competitively was a great test of co-op strategy, spawn knowledge, positioning and overall skill, even if watching a video of it just looks like people doing random combos. I'll never deny the fact that it was an atrocious Resident Evil that embraced the concept of taking the Action-Man-Leon ball and running with it like their life depended on it (with nonsensical Hollywood'esque effect), but if you took the RE out of it and embraced it as a fun shooter, much easier to enjoy.

Haven't touched the Mercenaries. Well, one stage a few times. Might give it a longer go.

I'm interested to hear how you get along. I loved the first two films and heard the great reviews when this game came out, but I got stuck early on and gave up. I couldn't get past the
    marshmallow man
    .

Wonder if I should try again.

Just about to start that level. Turned it off to go to boot camp, but too lazy so back to it. :o

Subjective. I had no issue with the story (it was essentially a re-telling of ME1) and actually quite liked various characters, more than I expected given how we would no doubt miss the old crew.

Also fine with the dialogue (options). You 2-4 different flavours to choose from for the majority, all of which effected Ryder's overall profile which no doubt would have had an effect in later games, much like how if you imported your Hawke into DA:Inquisition, their dialogue would depend on how you primarily responded in DA:2.

Aside from being less "RED OR BLUE" than previous ME's, there wasn't much difference other than overall depth - and in this universe which was starting from scratch, you weren't going to get things as rich as a trilogy that had more appeal via past decisions or well fleshed characters.

    Won't argue that.

Leave disappointment to the individuals. I would only have been disappointed if I was gagging for more of the same, but knowing the trilogy was over and they didn't want to revisit it, I just viewed it as its own entity outside of the fact it had the same brand on it -- namely what you already said: "a decent game overall if taken in isolation". I wasn't disappointed with it, though I'm not disagreeing that it is a good game, just not a great Mass Effect - a sentiment I shared with other titles like RE6, being good shooters and having good side-content, but being a terrible Resident Evil.

I ended pumping 130 hours into it. F&ck me I've not done that in years.

Characters were quite good, Liam bugged me no end as did Addison.
Real problem was the complete copy/paste of enemies/fauna. In a 2016 game there needed to be more

I gave islanders a go. Very good steam reviews and cheap. I love city builders but I'm bored of it after 30 mins. Feels like a mobile game. I don't get it at all.

    Anno 1800

Loving it, very good looking game, great music (albeit some very hammy dialogue) and so far it is doing an excellent job as a world builder.

It was on my mind for almost a year but I keo seeing the mediocre reviews for the other games and decided not to get too excited. Turns out I was wrong, as it is absolutely full of detail and careful management systems, even trading between your own islands and I've yet to find out what happens you reach the New World.

If anyone has been on the fence about this and likes real time strategy builders like this Sim city or cities skylines (or strk ghold, according to me girlfriend who is out playing it now as I'm trying to go sleep), I would very much recommend. Looks like it should qhave a lot of replayability to it too.

Finished Watch_Dogs and the DLC over the weekend. Christ, what an absolute ****ing chore that ended up being. Props to the writers though, it would take a lot of effort to create a protagonist more dull than Connor from AC3 but they really knocked it out of the park with Pearce. The DLC that focused on T-Bone was definitely an improvement, at least then you were still stuck with the sub-par camera, driving, shooting and awful PC performance even on a high end machine...

Finally decided to move away from Spelunky in the meantime. Tried it again on the PC this time and once again bounced off it hard. I can respect the design and the influence the game has had but I just can't get past the lack of progression in the game. Installed Rogue Legacy as my next roguelike to play along with something bigger and that is definitely more my thing. I've already had a couple of instances of "just a run or two" and suddenly find an hour or two has passed as I build up my castle and explore further than the first Castle area.

As for the next big game, that's Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. Should be a nice palette cleanser after Watch_Dogs. :o

I loved Watch Dogs. The main guy was good also I thought. Never played the DLC though.

If you enjoyed the main game then I'd definitely recommend the DLC if you wanted to revisit it. It's a nice little standalone chunk of gameplay that expands on some of the characters from the main game and adds a neat little gadget along the way.

I replayed Crysis 2 which was pretty nice but still prefer Crysis 1 for the map, freedom and suit powers. Graphics of course are still competitive to modern standards. Kinda want to replay 1 and 3 now.

I just installed openmw so I might actually get around to Morrowind. But I'm still just getting started with Grim Fandango. Amazing voice acting and writing. So much character. A few glitches have been souring the experience, though.

I also finished Shinobido 2 (huge fan of the 1st) by getting the screen to render on my PC monitor. Can't stand holding the vita as a controller while also positioning the screen to face me.

What remains of Edith Finch- Took about 4 hours to complete, is this even considered a game??? Not sure what to make of it, more an interactive story in the formula of Gone Home, etc. Got it free so no harm done...

I went back to a massively modded Skyrim. Really enjoying it, as the expanded perk system i use adds some variety. Stealthy bow assassin, which makes it easy enough, though morroloot makes the enemies much much harder. Struggled through Bleak Falls Barrow last night, even though i was already level 20.

Really need to look into modding it myself. Are most mods now available for the SE or are ya better off sticking to the original?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,442 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Yeah, most of the main ones are on SE now, with only a few of the major ones left. I've got Morroloot, Ordinator, a bunch of combat mods, and loads of other smaller ones. To be fair, the game still looks great, and with the combat mods, it's actually fun to play.

If you do fancy sticking with the legendary edition, you can just get Skyrim Unlimited, which is a massive mod compilation that gives you good instructions (and an installer) to do all the work for you. It has Requiem, which changes the game massively. I started with that, but the older version just doesn't run as smoothly as the new one, so i switched.

Playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
About 50% of the way through and seriously questioning if I'll bother finishing it. The amount of jank, poor transitions in cutscenes/dialogue etc is really jarring. The jumping/traversal mechanics are way too forgiving and really distracting.
    Might just pack it in.

Gave Destiny 2 a go too but realised that the shooting is fun but everything around that is not for me.
