@beejee those are Capcom secret files ,nice little collection.
I'm jealous of 2 of your 3 cabs :awe: 😠would rather a candy any and everyday over most generic cabs though.

If that arcade club venture I was looking into had panned out Id have well over a hundred cabinets by now. Freaking rent/property prices in this country are a joke!

I only have the three cabinets so far in the house, but there may be a few more tasty additions incoming very soon. If its worthwhile, I may take a bunch and stash them elsewhere.

If I limit things to the house, my wants are: Turtles, killer instinct 1 or 2, and house of the dead midi

If I go the "stashing" route, Im gonna pick up nintendo rtype, Nintendo playchoice, virtua cop, Mortal kombat 3/ultimate, and cabarets are always nice.

In fact rtype could squeeze into the house too. After that, that's me done with arcade cabinets (could always grab a few more pcbs though!)

Oh and everyone needs at least one generic cab like an electrocoin or silverline, the foundation of irish arcades! I wouldn't mind having a candy cabinet, but all a bit too pricey for me ( I do like that cyber lead however!)

Been there done that, don't want xenons, goliaths and sliverlines back haha ,here we had some other generic cabs in one of the arcades nothing fancy but got me into sitting down lol. I've never liked the veneered sided woodies either ....
Although the plan is to eventally get a proper centipede cab.

The Silverline 26" i have is a beast, i can only imagine what one of those Goliaths are like. Anyways its in the shed and cant fit out the door now.

An electrocoin duet is what youre pining after there, old man :P But yeah, the veneer sides are a no-no, just not for me either!

I was actually shocked. I had moved the punch out independently of the goliath. But when it came to getting them in the house I had a chance to (literally) compare the weight.

Youd think the punch out with two monitors would be the beast, it was actually fine. It was the goliath that took the biscuit. Not that theyre impossible to lift, still a two man job, but no joke either!

I almost dropped a silverline down the stairwell of three floors once. I swear it would have gone through the floor, heavy also! And how does yours not fit outside again? did you build the shed around the cabinet :P

At least we agree there :) , no it wasnt the duets we had those in another arcade and they are OK but I never wanted one of them .. I don't remember seeing these cabs anywhere else but again nothing special either not branded from what I remember either and I don't want one of them either lol

Restore begins now. 6 slot needs a good clean and battery mod. Control panel needs a fair bit of work (seller included a new overlay). Brand new EL panels were also included by the seller. I'll have to source a bezel & memory card reader (a broken one would do, its just for the look)

Haha yeah I tried to fit one into my SNK candy cab a few years back, not a hope! Sold it in the end.

Is the wiring to switch between games set up and working?

Sure is, game select button working fine. Theres a few loose wires left over, I suspect they are for the EL panels.

Yup some nice ones :) and yup, 'tis an rtype! Most interesting in that lot is the control panel, bonus points to those who recognise it :p it's the cabinet it connects to I'm excited about (amongst others), but that larger "bit" wouldn't fit in a car :p

Will fill in the blanks later this evening when I get the supergun out

Good going, but it's the other control panel that's a head scratcher. Think more "upright", and it's from a company that ends with "do" :p

Hitting the road now, will be impressed if anyone guesses by the time I'm home!

Finally got around to testing/inspecting some of the stuff. Hit and miss, as expected. New Zealand story is fine, Rtype is filthy so will need to fully clean, airbuster is giving me scrambled graphics but playing (was really looking forward to playing that one!), asterix is squeaky clean but its giving me a reported error on one of the chips (should be an easy fix), conan the barbarian Rastan Saga is 100% :), and star wars is very cool looking! That's enough for today
Im just holding some of these for the moment.

My "to do" list is getting bigger and bigger. Im going to finish a few other things before I get back to these games (and all the other stuff). Happy-ish with the stuff today :)

I'll have to get the cab working first! Have to buy a few brand new 4A fuses tomorrow. If they don't do it though I'm afraid I'll have to dig deeper

Fantastic game! Love it. Closest thing you'll ever get to conan (but I was never mad about nastar) Cant wait to have a proper sit down and play it on an actual cabinet :)

Result! and just before midnight :)

I was reading about konami boards just before bed (as you do), and I came across a new thing to me, eeprom initialisation.

It sounded too easy to be true, but thought i'd give the pcb one more try. Et voila, Monsieur Obelix!

Apparently the rom "17b" needs to be reinitialised if it shows up as bad (why? under what circumstances? I don't know). You simply hold the test switch while booting...now its re-initialised. Game is 100% :)

A word to the wise, keep an eye out for broken konami boards of this era on the likes of ebay. I missed a monster maulers with this EXACT 17b rom problem only a week ago. If only I had known!

Anyway, job done. Easiest fix ever :)

Well that was a handy fix :)

I remember trying this on my glitching Asterix board years ago with no joy unfortunately. Still glitching away wherever it is!

nice 6 slot kidchameleon, although I never got into these multicabs bitd ,they just felt wrong to me ! dedicateds ftw :pac:
Also need a windjammers in there for the 6th cart and maybe switch kof for 96/98 edition as they are better !

Great haul of pcbs beejee ,I'm jealous ,I'd settle for a haul of 2 1 pcbs these days ! :(

wait you turned down a monster maulers even though you've been looking for one for ages :confused::eek: broken or not it was worth a punt !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭beejee

Of the 4 tested so far, I have 3 hits and 1 miss. Happy enough :) I have a hunch that the airbuster may not be getting enough power, but I'm going to wash it and rtype and go from there.

That monster maulers was listed as broken but the bids went to 100 quid, and I wouldn't touch a broken board for half that (couple exceptions). I wouldn't pay that for a working board even :p

There's a guy who's holding a monster maulers for me for a trade, and I know I've got more boards incoming so we'll settle at the end.

Tip: if you're getting boards, don't leave multiples behind. Good for trades, and a mistake I've made up until now :/

Yes I was going to say the same thing. CPS1 A boards are hard to come by!

It's sad really, one of the best arcade systems of all time and they seem to be dying :(

I've two working ones that I've to interchange games between as my other A boards have packed it in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭beejee

All duly noted on final fights :) Lets see how it all goes. Thats a good point about the cps a boards, getting harder to come by now.

While I thought my day off would be messing around playing games, ive spent more time testing stuff. Has to be done I suppose!

Booted up raiden, 100%. The only surprise was that it was raiden 2. No big deal, great game either way :)

Airbuster has driven me up the wall, still getting scrambled graphics after fiddling with power supply and cleaning and reseating chips etc. Its so close, but its getting put on the long finger now.

Rtype I didn't bother washing/cleaning so much. Got most of the dubious looking grime off it. After airbuster, I was pleasantly surprised to find it fully playable and sound/music 100% (great music!). But the graphics are garbled, got to the end level boss, cool stuff :). This one can definitely be rescued (not so sure on airbuster).

I'll clean rtype and inspect then that's that for today :)

Quick question. Another board I was testing has thrown up an interesting problem.

Connected to the supergun, when I power it up the red light on the supergun goes on, then immediately off...?!

Any guess as to what this could be? Its like theres a feedback of power and the supergun is turning off as a safety measure?

Its a game that requires minus 5v, and that's something I never bothered to connect to the superguns power supply. But I doubt that would have that effect? Rastan is the same (iirc), so you don't get sound, but it wouldn't reset the supergun surely.

its probably shorting out somewhere or maybe a power hungry board ,whats the metere reading is it definitely Jamma ?...-5v is only used to drive sound sections and isnt needed for testing as such. unless you are testing the sound
