I was forced to listen to about 3-5minutes of the show today as I was ordering a coffee and am not rude enough to leave my headphones on whilst my order was being taken.

During that time Ciara said her own name 5 times (I counted) whilst reading out texts. Examples:
    "Well said Ciara....."
    "Hi Ciara...."
    "I agree Ciara..."

I've commented on her propensity for doing this previously and then as now I simply refuse to believe that every single person who texts in uses her name in the text. It's all so very "look at me".

Would they be using the name of Ciara Something (I can'tremember her surname) who works on The Hard Shoulder and who was the guest on her show to talk about accents? Because they read an awful lot of texts or tweets in reply to her.

Today's conversation was very very interesting. It was an out and out debate. Ciara vigorously defended Paddy Cosgraves right to invite Marine LePen to the Web summit.

This debate continued last night on Twitter. Ciara was getting quite a bit of stick and was not backing down from her position.

Glancing through twitter this morning, it's interesting that she is being accused of being both a bleeding heart liberal and a right wing fascist.

It’s absolutely not. She checks what way the wind is blowing before making up her mind deciding which bandwagon to hop on on most issues. Retreating from her staunch stated position only proves this, but no doubt you’ll find a way to defend this backtracking too.

I actually did make a critical mistake on my previous post and have done Ciara a disservice. She was not backing down. Have edited now.

Glad I gave you a thrill though. You're welcome.

Guess that means you'll have to review your opinion of her. :D

Not at all, unlike Ciara I won’t flip flop on my opinion that easily. But like Ciara, you always have an excuse.....

Not at all. The easy thing to do would be to issue a grovelling apology.

She's usually the one starting the mob.

Maybe she has been red-pilled, as our American friends say.

Wow.....that guy Donal comes across as a bit of a pretentious **** with his 100s of euros in his pocket at all times.

Cant believe that Hook has that backstabber Ciara Kelly on his show this morning. It's certainly easy enough to believe that Ciara is at odds with the Church as she certainly doesn't behave in line with Christian teachings i.e. loyalty, forgiveness, supporting your friends in need, not stabbing people in the f**king back.

Here's the thing. Despite what Hook fans want to believe Ciara & Goerge are friends. He does not see her as a back stabber. Many Hook fans (I am a fan myself) have great imaginations. Hook didn't mean the apology. Ciara left it too late to back him up etc. There is no truth in any of that. The simple fact is George likes Ciara.

For fecks sake that's way too simple

I don't see the issue here, Hook used to regularly read out texts from listeners and they regularly called him George or Hook

I think it’s a way of eating in to time.
Gary Neville and his “I thinnkkkKkkk “ pause for 5 seconds and then ****e on. It is now a case that every pundit says this and I believe they are trained this to say some filler phrase to kill time (probably to give them a second come up with what they are going to say)

It's a dreadful show and today's' segment on gender quotas was just unreal.

    It was bad.

She had two guests who both supported gender quotas yet she was determined to have a row with her male guest who wasn't disagreeing with her. I don't usually criticise ciara herself or the show for that matter but today was cringe worthy.

I friend has a hair salon with close to a dozen staff. All female. He decided he wanted to balance it out a little by hiring a male hair stylist. Not gender quotas. Just one male member of staff out of 12. No one would let him advertise for a male stylist. It's illegal apparently. He's not allowed by law to select a male member of staff on gender alone.

I wonder what ciara would think about gender quotas in this case.

If he wanted male stylist he should pick one from people who applied, what's the problem? If none applied he would be no better off advertising for a male stylist.

That's not really the point. The point is that gender quota is a one way street.

Is it? We have only male employees (except) and we would be in trouble if we were only looking for a man or only for a woman. I know I have to word every job add very carefully so I don't make it gender specific.

And even gender quotas in politics are only for nominations, nobody is stopping you to vote for a man. However many times in past you couldn't vote for a woman because there were none on the ticket.

Repost that and change the word stylist to politician.....and male to female.

That's my point. 30 percent quota & ciara not only defended it but prompted it.

Then she repeats several times that men have 100 percent quota up until now. This of course is absolute rubbish. There are more unemployed men then women. Even if unemployment had equal numbers this still proves that it is equal in the workforce.

It was easy for her to have her little rant yesterday when both guests agreed with her though she did try make it look like she was challenging the male guest on behalf of the women of the world. It was an easy argument to win when all agreed with her.

    Men have 100 percent quotas!
It was a complete idiotic thing not just to say but to repeat several times

Again both genders are on the ticket, you can vote for whoever you want for whatever reason you want. If you want to vote for a man because he is a man you can still do that, majority of candidates and majority of elected politicians are men. You seem to be throwing toys out of a pram because there are not all men? Or what is the problem? Because last time I checked nobody forced you to vote for a woman, 3 out of 10 candidates have to be a woman for parties to get certain money. That is all. You can still file a list of all men.

But the party can not vote for the candidate they want to nominate. Why can't the party vote for who they want?

I do understand the not all parties hold a vote but some do. This is interfering with the democratic process.

I have a daughter in her mid 20s. I want an equal playing field for her.. I wan't her to have the same opportunities as any man. I am 100 behind women rights & always have been but quotas are a major step backwards for equality imo

Funnily enough in most countries quotas in politics are relevant only for a few years and then things balance out by itself. I actually edited my post, you can still put all men on the ticket but certain election contributions won't be paid from the state to the parties.

Serious conflict on the show today between Ciara and an economist (Marie Sherlock) from SIPTU. Conversation started on the disparity between average earnings in public sector and private sector. Ciara was adamant that it is a massive problem that the private sector workers ultimately fund public sector pensions and benefits which they in the private sector will never enjoy.
Lasted almost twenty minutes and got very heated at times.

I said it previously, but I really enjoy debate (not outright arguments) on the radio.
