Would I be right in thinking this only works if you have signed up for prime delivery, and not just prime video?

Either one would work. Its the EU law that allows this. It is nothing to do with prime as such.

We might be back to Irish prime video in March when/if the UK leaves the EU. There are workarounds we can talk about then.

So I have ran into my first problem with '2 day delivery' - I suspect An Post is struggling to meet its SLA at the moment.

Ordered 2 relatively bulky items on Friday 6th July, 2 day deliver. Expected Tuesday 10th.

Monday 9th - got dispatch email confirmation and tracking info. Scheduled for Tuesday delivery.

Tuesday 10th 3:30pm ish - email from Amazon saying delivery was now scheduled any day upto the 18th (!)

Got on to customer support and gave out that I'm paying for 2 day delivery not almost 2 week delivery. Got an apology, a free month of Prime, and a 100% assurance it would be delivered the next day. Agent said they'd get onto the carrier to ensure this would happen.

Wednesday 11th - text from An Post saying item was out for delivery, received before 9am, with a mobile number to call if needed. 8:35pm, got onto customer support again to ask where my items which had been guaranteed delivery were. Agent said they would be delivered 'any minute'. I pointed out that was unlikely, as An Post doesn't have a reputation for domestic deliveries much after 3 in the afternoon... Agent apologised and said they thought the package was being delivered by amazon (interesting), but they now realised it was An Post. They refunded me 25% of the cost of the order and said they'd get onto the carrier again and try to get it delivered today.

Thursday 12th - 7:45am text from An Post saying item is out for delivery (again) and a number to call as before. Tried calling the number - doesn't work (lol). We'll see what happens.

An Post need to get their act together, by all accounts amazon deliveries are just about keeping it afloat. amazon won't put up with crappy service, and parochial fondness for using the local supplier won't cut the mustard with a business of their scale.

Edit: Having said all that I would say that amazon customer service is extraordinary....... they really do put the customer first.

Had the same happen.Heck if they get it here in 3 days every so often and I don't have to pay for prime as amazon extend it I'd be okay with that ha.

I had two items ordered for my house from two different prime accounts. Ordered within 20 minutes of each other and both dispatched at the same time. One took 2 days & one took 3 days. There's no real excuse for that

Over-all though my deliveries have mostly been two days. I will save money over the year by not using parcel Motel. That in the itself will more than pay for prime.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Any courier company would deliver either inferior experience - aka Hermes in UK - or charge multitude of what post is charging.

It's the same in US - when it is only USPS that is capable of delivering the parcels majority of areas.

You arent paying an post you are paying amazon, if an post dont meet their SLA someone else will get the business.

Unless you don't pay taxes, you subsidise AnPost too.

SLA are typically expressed in % - like 95% of parcels will be delivered under 2 days. One late parcel does not break the SLA.

And who else would want that business? For any other courier company it is loss making business.

AnPost has an obligation to deliver everywhere - so they already have infrastructure that is generating loses. Delivering for Amazon might utilise it more, but overall that company will still be making losses. Especially if competition undercuts them only for most profitable regions, like Dublin and Cork.

im referring to amazon deliveries not a wider discourse on the merits and demerits of anpost.

and thanks for that detailed explanation of what an SLA might look like :p the point being there wont be one late parcel, 2 of my 3 were also late with the same email saying they will arrive sometime in the next 8 days.

finally i have no idea if amazon business is loss making for couriers but i would be surprised if it was.

Contacted Prime support. They switched me to UK. Logged out and back into Prime Video and Amazon site. Doesn't seem to work - I try to watch Batman v Superman and am told it's not available in my region.

Yes. My region is UK. I have a UK address, Parcel Motel & my own Dublin address. The region is just where you are supposed to live, then under EU law you have a right to view your home (UK) content anywhere in the EU. Your delivery address/ addressees don't come into it. These are just addressees you want your goods delivered to.

The EU have done some great things imo. Free roaming is another one that the average Joe can benifit

Anybody know if it's possible to only show prime video that are included? It's a real pain seeing ones you have to buy or rent but are not part of your prime membership

Finally got set up with amazon prime UK
Here’s what I had to do
As in earlier posts I changed to my PW address in the UK. Got onto live chat on prime video. Asked them to change my prime location to UK. They asked for name email and billing address. I gave them the first line of my Irish address. They asked for my postcode. I gave them the postcode of my PW address.
    Logged out, back in, done.
    Hope this helps someone

And this doesn't affect you getting prime delivery options to your actual Irish address??

    Prime seems to be con.
I've ordered another item that's prime delivery and yet its not going to arrive here until Wed which is 4 working days. I'll be getting onto them.

    No.
You can get prime delivery to an Irish or UK address now. Doesn't matter if you are living in Ireland or UK.

I have UK prime video and I have been getting prime delivery for the last 2 weeks here in Ireland. I have a business account & get a lot of deliveries. Maybe 8 or 9 prime delivery here in Ireland no problems at all. Most arrived in the two days.

Does this work for the prime music thing as well if you change your region to the UK?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 711 ✭✭✭davegilly

So I can think my location has been changed to uk, how do I know for sure? I tried playing Batman v Superman and it played ok, does this mean my region is now uk?

So the music works as well, you need to enter your credit card details and then select your PM address and all is working then.
Selection isn't great though, it's kind of a gateway drug to get you to buy the unlimited music for £7.99 a month.

Batman v superman is a great example for anyone who is not sure. If you have Irish prime you might be able to see it listed if you are on the website prime video but you definitely won't be able to play it. You most likely w even see it on the prime video app if you are seen as Ireland

My current order has now moved to 3 weeks delivery so I phoned Amazon to cancel and told them 3 weeks delivery is a joke, a supervisor told me they’d see if they could escalate shipping but I told them I’d ordered elsewhere with delivery Monday. Supervisor then said it’s ready for immediate shipment so I asked when would I get it and was told a week.
Grand says I, well 3 weeks is not good enough and I’m rejecting the delivery so they’ll have to sort out return postage.

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

Tweeted to Amazon yesterday about the delay in delivering my mousepad and as it turns out it’s being delivered by I-parcel who apparently are one of the worst delivery companies ever.
They apologized and said they have contacted the carrier to treat it as urgent and also extended my trial membership another month.

The weird thing is I ordered 3 separate items yesterday and 2 are being delivered by an post for Monday.

Hah, you'll probably end up collecting it from some Texaco in your area in a few days.
