Hmmm, the sceptic in me wonders if my recent orders taking over 2 weeks to dispatch (despite lots of stock) are a subtle hint to take up a prime membership. Still, it's great news that this service is finally available in Ireland.

I saw someone post on another thread how they felt standard delivery had gotten much slower recently. You might be on the something there

    That will hit PM/PW badly!

    I don't see how.

A lot of people in Ireland already have Amazon Prime and use PM etc. to get it in 2 days (one day delivery + one day with PM) if they need something in a hurry.

I was wondering why my 3 orders last week had free priority delivery. That's a game changer brilliant.

    Won't need to now!

Some people perhaps but I'd imagine most still use those services to get around Amazon delivery restrictions or because they'd rather collect it, etc. PM/PW will be fine.

PM/PW will be fine, but it will still hit them badly.

I'd imagine most actually use to buy from UK sites that don't deliver to Ireland rather than those mentioned anyway. :)

I generally used to get it in one day using PM. Overnight to NI, then in my locker that night.

No it won't, most people are out during the day and can't be hanging around waiting for deliveries that's why Parcel motel is so convenient order is delivered locally and can be picked up when it's suitable for them to do so.

Slow delivery the last 2 orders too.. Remember thinking at the time how unlike Amazon it was as usually parcels arrive within a week

I don't think it will hit them badly at all. How many people were paying for Amazon Prime and PM/PW for every delivery because they can wait 2 days but not a week? I can't see it being anything more a very small percentage of their customers, who will still have to use those courier services for the many items Amazon still won't deliver to Ireland.

Do they deliver Amazon Pantry yet to Ireland or would I need PW still?

Cancelled my prime a few months back.

People are throwing around the word "most" without really backing it up and when I think they mean that this is what I mainly use it for.

I do however believe that most people use it for this purpose, but taking away even a small portion of users will hit them badly, especially when there is now more and more competition in this area.

I think you would be surprised how many people in Ireland have Amazon Prime, especially since it's quite easy to do a 30 day free trial over and over.

Not to speculate, but have Amazon been slowing free delivery dispatch in order to encourage people to pay for Prime?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 699 ✭✭✭davegilly

Is the price for ROI the same as the UK, £79?

Not really a bargain when so much is missing, like music and the video library though is it? Prime seems like a fantastic deal when the full UK offering is available.

I know I can use a VPN etc, that's not the point.

Should be £49 or £59 for us for all that is missing.

Not sure. Maybe just every new Prime customer bumps your order down the backlog list. I noticed that even some of my next day deliveries to NI with Prime have taken 2 days lately.... My Prime sub has just expired and I'm not sure I'll bother renewing unless there's an offer..

Serial online shoppers and bargain hunters on internet forums maybe, but a significant percentage of PM/PW's Irish customers? I seriously doubt it. And like I said, they'll still have to use those services for all the stuff Amazon won't deliver to Ireland.

Great news I just bought Barry's tea bags and it will be delivered Tuesday. Used a revolut card for the straight exchange rate. This is great news.
I see the pantry box thing just say everything is unavailable unfortunately.

And like I said, you don't need to lose a "significant percentage" of users in order to be hit badly. Just losing the "serial online shoppers and bargain hunters" is bad enough.

Overall delivery time on Amazon has been getting worse for me the last year or so. I used to be able to order on a Monday and have it by Thursday. I ordered something last Sunday and still waiting for dispatch. The delivery time is actually still great with An Post, it’s the time it’s taking to post out.

The yearly subscription is tempting though, especially with the few free extras you get with it. If it gets the yearly prime day discount then it’ll be a great price.

Video library is available without VPN. Not sure about the music as I haven't tried that. I have been using prime for the backup service

Not the full UK library. The Irish version is tiny in comparison

Good to see they listen (or read at least) the surveys they keep sending out to people. At the end of them I always made sure to point out that we (Irish) want/need Prime too! Yes we have prime movies but as someone pointed out its not even half the library as the UK or US have...and probably never will be. But as long as they price according to the fact they offer less with our version, (like they did with film) i'll be jumping in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,472 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

Standard have definitely increased timewise. I used to get nearly all my amazon stuff in 2 days but its now taking longer.
    Now I know why.
And for my recent order one of the items even though its a prime item will still take 4 days to arrive as opposed to 2 days for the other items.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 318 ✭✭Mikenesson

It certainly looks like they had a strategy in place to get customers onto prime by slowing down the free delivery

Off topic, but what :D?! Surely it's cheaper, easier and better to just buy them from your nearest shop?

Nope. Barry's is slightly cheaper to buy from Amazon (esp the larger volumes) - Blended in Cork, shipped to the UK and back again (with free postage). Go figure.

I've only ever bought it from Amazon for relatives in England though....

Most of my Free delivery's for >25 quid spend come with An Post. But I have had a few courier delivery's too.

I have been using Amazon Prime with Parcel motel for the past while but I've found recently that they have started splitting the orders even though I bought them from the same suppliers etc.. Makes getting small items less cost effective when you have to pay for 2 Parcel motels. With this I wont need parcel motel as much so should save a few more quid..

I wonder if this means amazon.co.uk will be unaffected by Brexit issues? I know they have a huge warehouse here. Anyone know how that's going to pan out for us as amazon customers?

Obviously & I suspect it will get worse. I have switched to ebay for some items where Amazon are quoting long deliveries

It really isnt, the vast majority of shops in Ireland are yet to experience any stiff competition, especially from an online competitor. This can only be a good thing and give them the kick up the arse they need. I dont know how the likes of Dunnes Stores can get away without even having an online groceries store in 2018!

    Get away with it?

They just run the stores how they want

    Also...
Do Prime deliveries require a signature and you to be home in order to get it?

    This prime is not cheap

You'd want to be doing a good bit of business with them

They just put me on prime free for a month and I'm getting this priority delivery at the moment. It certainly looks like a ruse to get customers into prime

Are you able to order spirits through Amazon Pantry? It might be a cheap way of grabbing a few bottles if they deliver to Ireland.

How does PM work out with Amazon splitting deliveries?

Do you order one item at a time and why do you use PM,Is it because you're out for deliveries?

I'm never home during the day. Deliveries are split depending where you're ordering from.

Doesn't An Post do some sort of a physical mailbox if you're out?

Might be useful although they're not guaranteed to use An Post all the time either

Very happy to see this. I hope all of the 2 day priority shipping deliveries are by An Post and include Saturday delivery!

I hope folks can report back which company delivers their prime packages when they order.

I don’t have Amazon Prime. Ordered a Breville Blender at 2pm on Wednesday the 27th and it was delivered to my Irish residential address Friday morning the 29th. I chose the free delivery option which estimated 4th - 5th July.

Maybe I just got lucky but with that fast turnaround time for free I wouldn’t be too pushed to pay for Prime.

It's expensive (70quid plus you have to install it yourself) and tiny. PM is far handier and quicker. Just get a text when your delivery is in your pm locker and you can collect it anytime for 48 hours.
