Didnt hear about Donal Og but heard that Brian Turnbull did his cruciate. Horrible way to finish a great year for him and hopefully he makes a full recovery

Colleges shouldn't be allowed in our SHC under current rules. Several players playing with UCC last night have played SHC in their own county already this year. Why should you be allowed play SHC in two counties just because you attend UCC or CIT.
A rule change required at the very least.

I see your point but it could also be said that it breeds competition & improves the overall quality of the championship. Ultimately you want the club game strengthened but putting players up against the best is a way of upping standards

Can't see my own club challenging Carbery Rangers, we've have a brutal league and the win over Carbery (division) should be taken into context as they were beaten by Kiskeam afterwards. Lots of new young players brought into the team as the older lads retired. A year or two too soon id say

Couldn't agree more, its farcical to be honest. And I actually couldnt believe it when I heard that a Senior Club Championship match in Tipp was brought forward to allow a player line out in both games, the mind boggles.

A few years ago UCC were playing Dr. Crokes in a Munster football, and Johnny Buckley & Heaney after playing all through the cork championship with UCC, they jumped ship to Dr. Crokes for the final.

UCC have an obscenely talented team. Mary I will obviously have a fine Fitz team again this year but I'd be all over UCC to dent them the three in a row.

This debate always happens when UCC take a scalp. Facts are they havent won the county since 1970, and the last time they even looked like winning was when a small village from the east of Cork beat them in the semi.

You have the likes of Hoggie on twitter then who's sour and calling for divisions and colleges to be taken out of the county championship. I wonder what the likes Harnedy/Ellis and co thought of that when they arguably got their shot from playing with the division/college team.

If anything, getting the chance to play against these kind of fellas can only be good for the club championship, which i think everyone can agree has been ****e standard for years.

They played their part in getting Crokes to the Munster final also it's worth noting. It's not like Buckley & Casey let Gooch and the lads down home get to the Munster final while they had a ball with UCC then 'jumped ship' in order to get a Munster winners medal, they grafted to get Crokes to that final and ultimately their loyalty lies with their club.

I think the bigger reason for pointing towards not having colleges in the SHC & SFC is player burnout - between club, county & college you could end up playing a ferocious amount of games. I wouldn't mind seeing college players having the Fitz or Sigerson to play for and that's it but again I do believe it increases the competition in the championships and raises the standards of clubs in Cork as a result.

County Semi-Final and Final (both codes) are fixed for the PUC. So hopefully this will remain the case. Didn't get a chance to watch the first game played so I'm hoping these games will get the green light.

Yeah, I heard something alright but sometimes these rumors can be a load of nonsense. President of the GAA is due to open the ground on the 22nd October which is the date for the SHC final.

Fine let UCC play in the championship but any player that plays in one county championship should not be eligible to play in another, anything else goes against the entire ethos of the GAA. It is akin to Patrick Horgan playing with Cork in hte Munster Championship and also playing with Kilkenny in the Leinster Chanpionship and then deciding at AI final stage which one he will line out for, now does that make any sense to anyone??

Semis won't be going ahead there I believe but would imagine the finals should go ahead as per tradition

Think Double-header semi finals would be good though.

If he's going to college in Kilkenny then fair enough. It's not like these college players are going out of their way to play with another club in the hope of winning another county medal, which would be against the ethos of club. What was the reasoning for allowing both finalists from each division into the county junior hurling and football championships? Bit harsh if a losing finalist gets a soft draw and ends up winning the competition. Are 1 or 2 teams getting promoted?

I would feel it's a good thing. In some divisions, you can have 2 really strong teams playing each other in a final and a team pulls off a shock to advance to the county championship. Look at Bandon, one of the strongest junior football teams in the county for years but just couldn't get out of their division. Finally win junior and stroll through intermediate in their first year, 2nd year out of junior playing a Premier Intermediate semi-final next week.

Something of interest to Cork GAA fans

Former Cork hurler Paul Tierney completed the the Tor des Géants which is a 330km race in Italy. He finished in 25th place and it took 99 hours!

That's a mental race to be doing and it says only 60% finish it. Tierney had a successful hurling career, including three Cork SHC medals with the Rockies and playing for Cork at minor, U21 and senior level.

He now coaches running in England.

not sure what his work situation is but he gave 2 or 3 years as selector with JBM on top of the 2 as manager.

Only just heard Kingston is gone.I thought he did well but always thought he felt like an interim manager. Maybe I am wrong but that's how he felt to me.

He did his job settling the team and getting in some young players.

I hope we can get someone to push us on even further now. Kingston was great but I don't know about his ability to turn a game around if we are getting beat.

Yes I am being hyper critical!

This next appointment is very important as I think we have a strong basis and we need to keep improving.
