It wouldn't be sparsely populated, That's my point. And whoever wins, their supporters will stay for the presentation :-)

Yes it would :) . But even if it wasn't, how would seeing people standing on the hill be better for promoting the games than millions of euros from concert ticket sales?

Perhaps Kilkenny's peoples sense of aesthetics and occasion has diminished over the years. What do I know.

That's either dodging or missing the actual point of the question.

To spell it out: I understand that it might look better aesthetically. What I'm asking is, what difference does that make? You said the GAA's objective is to promote the games. I asked, if you can choose between the aesthetics of a full Hill 16, or the millions of euros from a Coldplay gig, which is likely to be of more benefit in promoting the game? If it is the former, then how is that the case? The latter, it seems to me, makes much more sense.

And also, I actually agree with you that it would be nice to have the hill open. I think it should always be open so as to let people attend for cheaper. But when there's a very good financial and logistical reason not to have it open, I just don't think it's a disgrace.

You are right about Hill being closed last two years. It was open in 2014 and 2013 when we were in finals, mostly I suspect because of large number of Dublin supporters who have Parnell terrace passes.
Nah. More like they wouldn't know how to get to the stands.

Moving along to another big game this weekend, I thought Jackie Tyrrell wrote a good piece in the Irish Times this morning..

    http://www.irishtimes.com/sport/gaelic-games/jackie-tyrrell-waterford-are-nice-you-d-want-your-sister-going-out-with-one-of-them-1.3121405

I'm going to go with a Waterford win on Sunday. I think Cork are a bit too inexperienced and may struggle to adapt to Waterford's defensive setup. Cork have the ability to shoot the lights out like they did against Tipp, but they were afforded space and time as Tipp have a chronically slow half back line while they're full back line all got booked and stood off. Waterford are going to pack the middle like they always do, so I don't think were going to see the likes of Lehane, Fitzgibbon, Harnedy and Kingston run riot.

For Waterford, they will hope Maurice can get back on form and Stephen Bennett keeps up his league form, as Cork's full back line isn't that good. There's quite a bit of pressure on them I think, this same team has been on the road a few years, this is their best chance of winning a Munster. They don't seem to have too many injuries so I think they will hit the ground running on Sunday.

Pitch in semple Stadium looks immaculate

Serious cork crowd in the house.

Surprised with how few has turned up for Waterford

    Very good match so far.
Some lovely puck-outs and passing from Cork.
Wonderful pick-up and point from Austin Gleeson.

Handy win for Galway against Offaly as expected, 0-33 to 1-11.

Galway vs Wexford in Leinster final on July 2nd.

Cork look good. Some lovely hurlers there and they're moving the ball really well.

Austin Gleeson is killing Waterford, got one great point but all he's done other than that is give away frees and hit stupid wides.

Lehane superb so far for Cork

Waterford have been really poor but only a point behind.

Those umpires must be sweating buckets in their trousers, shirts and ties :D
Only in the GAA would you see that

game not matching the pre-match atmosphere so far , cork the better side but missing far too many chances

Unreal period of play. Somehow Waterford engineering a score from it.

Fantastic save from SO'K but Harnedy should have buried it.

why i expect waterford to win , cork have been far too wasteful , could be out of sight with all the chances they have missed , waterford have punished them on the break .....all bar Austin Gleason that is

I'm not saying he's not a fantastic hurler. He is. But just watch the game in front of you. He's been awful in that first half and Waterford have only improved when he's not been on the ball as much in the last few minutes.

Cork have been better but they're only going in level. They should have at least one goal on the board and another point or two.

They are linking together so well though, really good team to watch.

Should the Austin Gleason point not have been a free to cork for a chop?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 341 ✭✭jam83

I know its not the done thing normally and would never happen (ulster finals in croker in mid 2000s aside) and especially for wexford its nice for them to play a final in croke park but wouldn't thurles be a better venue for this game...a slightly longer spin for wexicans but would def attract more neutrals...each county getting allocated their terrace etc etc

Sample stadium is a kip and thurles is a balls to get out of.
Maybe Munster counties have a love for the place but I'd prefer to never again go there for a game.

Especially so considering Galways abysmal record there. Of course Pearse Stadium is a joy to get out of and is state of the art.

I'm agreeing with you!! My point being he was at the same thing last year, his discipline and decision making is incredibly poor and hasn't shown any sign of improvement on todays effort.

In his defence he is an incredibly talented and skilful hurler and he needs to be left in a defined position whatever it may be but he has a lot of weaknesses

Waterford should be down to 14 men.
