Once an area goes live, do they usually follow along and complete the rest of the area fairly quickly ?

As far as I can see about half the area still not done and going live on 3rd may.

    It depends..

Some areas went partially live 2 months ago and the rest of the areas are not live yet..

@Gonzo - Ran some tests earlier on 2.4 Ghz wifi and I'm not getting much more than 80-90 down on mobile devices, I did manage to get over 100 download (peaked at about 130) on a brand new laptop

When you were testing it on the F2000, was the wifi intermittent on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets?

Did they give you an install date? I'm only aware of installs happening on the Moy Road so far

No install date yet, the site says Kinvarra is live for 150 premises. It has said that since the 3rd April, I ordered on the 3rd when it went live on the website, but they have been saying that the area goes live on the 3rd May and I will receive a follow up after that time with an install date.

I'm just curious if others have been getting the same info, or if engineers are in the area installing.

Didn't test it for very long, but I'll switch it back on during the week and do some testing.

They are definitely installing in Kinvara, I'm on the Moy Road and they were doing 6 installs there that morning (April 25). Where abouts are you; have the splitter boxes been put high up on poles yet?

I'm in Ballybuck, up near the soccer pitch. The splitter boxes have been in since the end of March. The whole area seems to have been done since then, which is why i thought the April 3rd date made sense. I don't know where May 3rd came from but I've been told it 2-3 times.

I hope there isn't too much of a delay. Out of interest when you ordered did they mention anything about the area going live before you could get an install date? And how long was it until the engineer arrived?

I know it is only two more days but I'm getting so excited :D

If April 3rd was completion then the 1Mo regulatory notice period would mean orders start May 3rd.

Ordered mine in Eir retail shop in Galway on March 21, they told me I'd have a install date of April 19. Called Eir on April 18 to see what was happening about install as I hadn't had email or text to confirm - They told me it would be another 2 weeks before install could be arranged as I was transferring from Vodafone and I might have put in the order again; I explained I had ordered Standalone so there was nothing to transfer, eventually after being transferred to 3 different people last guy tells me to expect a text sometime in the next week. Not feeling particularly confident about getting a text I rang again the following day and got talking to a really helpful agent - was on the phone for nearly 30mins but he sorted out what ever problem seemed to be on the order, got an email the following morning for install date and time window. If I were you I'd chase it up

    Install happened April 25

Any of the other Kinvarra folk on this thread got their order in? and gotten an install date?

I've my "pre-order" in, the website says we are live but Eir keeps saying we don't go live until the 3rd of May. Interested to see if others who have ordered got the same info and if install dates start coming fairly soon.
Same here, order in but no install date. Called on phone, and person told me he could see my order, and I should expect an automatic email on 3rd May to confirm

just after checking my first month of FTTH usage statistics which ended at midnight.

I didn't get FTTH till 7th April, so only 3 weeks to use up the 1tb fair usage policy.

With my previous 8-10meg ADSL connection my monthly usage varied between 135 and 240 gigs per month download data.

This month, the 3 weeks from 7th April to midnight last night ended up 523gigs, up to more than 300 gigs what I would normally use.

As I live in a 2 person household and I use up 90% of the data to myself, the 1tb is grand for me, but if there was 1 or 2 extra people in the household who use the internet reguarly the 1tb data would be well smashed by the end of each month with FTTH.

    Thanks for all the reporting.

Do you not think that you're on a learning/adoption curve? Your household has doubled it's usage in just one month. Won't you just keep on finding more use for all that extra capacity. 1tb simply isn't enough, and let's hope the recent hints that Eir are changing their fair usage policy turn out to be true.

That because your watching all your programs in HD you probably watch them in SD on ADSL.I don't think they will change there 1TB fair usage if they didn't do it with there FTTC why would they with FTTH.The way I see it is if more ISP join the FTTH network hope one of them do truly unlimited like westnet and sign up with them.

4 users here 460 GB per month current usage
Haven't had to worry about caps for about 2 years using 3 PAYG

Will feel strange to be paying 3 times as much and have to go back to worrying about potential overage charges.

During the week I got a call from a vodafone rep. Our exchange goes live in May and he was keen to get me to renew my existing contract. I told him I believed that vodafone were not involved in the ftth, and are not on the list of service providers listed here: http://fibrerollout.ie/eircode-lookup/service-providers/

He says they are, and offered my a discount to renew, I am suspicious.
Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Yes, Also had a vf rep here, and also spoofing about them able to sell siro ftth on eir's ftth..I told him go away with yourself and cop on. lol

The 'Connection Request' is up to end uses and retail operators. A 'Connected Premises' is one where a 'Connection Request' can be made, and that's totally up to OE.

But it all confusing because the 'Premises Passed' must be listed in the NGA as 'Ready for Order' which you would think means the same as 'Premises Connected', but clearly doesn't.

[edit] Or does the retail operator take it from the pole to the house?

Premises passed, I would say could only be connected after the first live datem but still be counted as premises passed, for eg. if an area that was being planned for fibre to be run and something held that up they would go to next nearest place that was ready for the fibre to be run and run it..even though its not on the near future live list.

I took a drive around pallasgreen which is going live on 3rd may.

I don't see any work in nicker, the village itself or down the cappamore road. Checked a few eircodes and they seem to confirm that its not available in those areas. It is showing as available about 1km from nicker where the poles have those splice boxes.

No kn vans in the area so Im thinking it will be a few weeks.

First live date is not fully compleated date.

what about the 66 towns scheme, is that one now dead in the water, or is it still planned to go any further? There has barely been any movement on the towns in over a year.

I have recently seen fibre cables being pulled through ducting in Kilkenny City, so presume a minimun sized team just working away..

Thanks Gonzo..so if the 1Tb fup is still there when we get ftth in 3rd quater '18 there will be no sweating about the fup limit..

That the down side of having usage limits it a pain they should offer extras like €10 for extra 500GB.

Sky on demand d/ls to the box and we watch later and we buffer the appletv film for a couple of hours just to make sure and then watch with no buffering

I found the rollout in Wexford to be a little strange. The south of the county being really well looked after with the FTTH rollout but the north of the county not so much.

Possibly because of the experience the technicians and network planners for the area have from the original Wexford Town FTTH trial?

Would they be entering premises in the NGA file as 'Ready to Order' even before the pole run? I can see how they might make the NGA entry once the pole run has been made, but still be holding off on going live until they had the manpower for the drops ready. This would explain why Navi's figures differ from Eirs.

The Premises Passed (Ready to Order) numbers would be very much higher than the Connected Premises (live) numbers if the difference is all about readiness to make the drop, which is probably the hardest time consuming stage in the process.

Just guessing here, but the reason the Commitment Contract has those definitions for Connected Premises with rules about how quickly the order must be able to be filled is that the contract once had milestones for Connected Premises and not just Premises Passed. Why else are they there? It also makes sense that a Connected Premises milestone would be taken out of the contract because who can doubt Eir's commitment to provide a commercial service if they have run fibre along the road.

Where do you get this info if you are ready to order etc. Our house has a blue circle, last house on the blue line so quite lucky. The where and when map says FTTH to be enabled Winter 2017 and I know this is very loose as it has slipped by 12 months already.

Just curious as to where I should be looking for the most up to date info.

    Thanks

possibly yeah I am on a learning curve with what you can do with FTTH. If there is still a 1 tb fair usage policy in place by next Christmas, then December could be a problem month even for me, as historically I always use way more data during December than any other month of the year.

The only reason we are now all questioning Eir over their fair usage policy is their recent doubling down on the fact that 'there are absolutely no usage limits', yet there still is.

Am I right in saying that most fair usage policys were abandoned in 2013 in the UK by service providers? Since 2013 both Virgin Media and Sky here have no download caps at all. It would benefit Eir to ditch the FUP, would make them look good and very few would actually go beyond the 1tb, but it would just make most people more relaxed that there is no watching the clock.

another customer has just complained about being charged extra on the Eir boards forum and this time they haven't gone over the limit and are charged an extra 100 euros http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2057735925

Live no's would just be premises passed, not actually premises connected, It is a 25 year plan, well for the NBP, but same thing for eir's rolloutNot every joe bloke is going to want to be coonected straight away...How long for example did it take for Phones to be installed in houses when that rollout happened...as in how long did it take for people to actually want a phone.

The premises passed no's on the map is just that...it does not mean premises connected

Connected premises milestone would actually be only for eir's benifit..

    Taken out of contract?

Is it a case the Customer servive inc. supervisors etc are not aware of the changes or are reluctant so say yes it is unlimited?

ie. decisions for advertising comes from a totally different department..

it is definitely still limited to 1tb per month, someone yesterday got billed an extra 100 euros for 'excess charges' and stayed within their 1tb data per month. http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2057735925

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,233 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

This is definitely because the usage counter is by month and the usage charge is by billing period.

So they have a 1tb fair use policy, with a substantial charge attached to it and give you no way to monitor your usage. Even worse they lead you to think you are under the limit.

so the end of each month doesn't mean your off the hook and have a fresh 1tb worth of data to play around with? They count your usage from bill date to next bill date and you have to guess your usage?
