why don't you just get homeplugs they work fine for me and I have the crappy F1000.It work great for android devices and my brother laptop.

i'd be very reluctant to use homeplugs with a decent connection like FTTH.

I've had good experience with a second hand TP Link Archer D7 (that's like the C7 but with ADSL modem functionality that I don't use)

ahh, I only have windows and android devices in the house.

perhaps this Asus woudl work? http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/asus-dslac55u-wireless-modem-router-ac-1200-dualband/335218/402.0.9

If I buy that, I disable the wifi on the F2000, keeping the wired mode only.

Connect the Asus to the F2000 using ethernet cable and use the Asus to beam wifi around the house?
Yeah - that looks interesting, not sure I like the bullet point that says "Ideal for low internet usage" even looks like it serve as a replacement fibre modem?

it supports up to 1167 Mbps transport speed. I only need between 100 and 300 on wifi. The only reason I want this is so that we can use the fibre broadband on our smartphones and tablets without it going inactive every few minutes. The price point seems ok, if all that is required is an ethernet connection between it and the f2000 with the F2000 continuing to serve my Windows 10 pc. I don't want it to replace the F2000 totally as the F2000 is doing a great job on the wired end of things.

As far as I can see about half the area still not done and going live on 3rd may.

I think it can take a fair while, Gonzo would know better.

Was just browsing the Eir site, decided to chat to a web-rep. Ended up ordering the 150Mb there and then for my Father. Very fast, expected to have to ring up etc.

Would always take PC World specs with a grain of sand, Asus WS says different 867Mbps which I think would be maximum of 300Mbps for 2.4Ghz and remember that's theoretical - I've gotten a peak of 870 mbps (rated for 1300) from my setup and that's with little or no interference or physical obstructions

here's the official spec:

so far how quickly an exchange goes fully live after the first live date is totally up to how much of an exchange is completed on the first live date. Some exchanges have been completed over a matter of months while others may have a year of updates, adding extra lines on a monthly basis.

A good way to estimate is to drive around all the blue routes from your exchange the week before going live and see how much work is completed. My local exchange has all it's work completed up to the first live date, however only the first 1/4 of it went live, then an extra 1/2 got added this month and presumably the last quarter goes live next month.

Some of the exchanges that were on the first bunch of exchanges to go live back in September 2016 are still not fully completed while others are.

I have updated the spreadsheet with the number of planned premises and estimated dates for the remaining 200000 premises. I have also added a "By County" page with totals for each county.

I also got estimated dates for the urban areas in the first 100K. It looks as if only Ennis, Kilkenny and Tralee may be partially live which throws further doubt on eir's claimed numbers .

Where did you get the "premises planned" numbers from for the remaining premises?

There seems to be a scarcity of info for Clare so here are some estimates
Exchange Estimated Live Date
Shannon Town FTTH Autumn 2018
Sixmilebridge FTTH Winter/Spring 2018
Newmarket-on-Fergus FTTH Spring/Summer 2018
Quin FTTH Winter 2018
Ennistymon FTTH Autumn/Winter 2018
Lahinch FTTH Autumn 2017
Crusheen FTTH Winter 2018
Tulla FTTH Autumn 2018
Scarriff FTTH Autumn 2017
Killaloe FTTH Autumn 2017
Clonlara FTTH Winter 2018

In addition there appears to be quite a number of the Ennis premises passed ... and live.
The total FTTH premises in Clare is estimated to exceed 1,000 at the end of the roll out.

Did you click on the 200K tab Johnboy? I have every area in Clare listed.

Did you click on the 200K tab Johnboy? I have every area in Clare listed.

No, I did not see it at the bottom of the screen :(

BTW, regarding Ennis .... it is not on the 200k tab.
Does that imply that all premises have been passed for FTTH?

I have just looked at the dccae map East of Ennis.
There are lots of premises with dark blue and a few in between with light blue marking.
I am aware of several of those dark blue premises that have already connected to FTTH.
I might be lead to believe that the light blue premises there were those who did not take a FTTH connection at the time.

The same seems to apply to the North West of Ennis.

I don't know the other areas.
But the colouring seems indicative of connections to FTTH where interspersed with light blue marked premises.

Any thoughts on this?

what about the 66 towns scheme, is that one now dead in the water, or is it still planned to go any further? There has barely been any movement on the towns in over a year.

Did your contact give you the info about the final 200k or was there another press release that I missed somehow? Did they tell you how accurate the numbers and timescales in that are?

Ennis is on the first tab because it was listed by Openeir in the first 100K premises.

http://www.openeir.ie/news/First-rural-FTTH-locations-announced/

Unfortunately the figures I have do not make a distinction between urban and rural live premises so it could be fully live or partially live.

Regarding the DCCAE map I am not sure what the explanation for that is.

There was no press release. I believe the number of premises is highly accurate, obviously the dates may be subject to slippage.

I have no further information on the town scheme. Just guessing you would imagine the rural project will take precedence for the next number of years.

that's probably true.

I reckon the town scheme was put on hold anyway due to very low uptake of FTTH in town areas, many of which already have access to cheaper and still fast FTTC or very fast Virgin cable.

Uptake of FTTH on my road is very good already and we've only live 3 weeks. So far 6 out of 18 premises are connected so a 33.3% takeup in under a month.
There are another 2 premises considering the move from Vodafone ADSL to Eir FTTH.

There's a new cable strung along the top of the existing Eir poles up past the Moyne in Enniscorthy, I only spotted it because of the shiny new hangers on the poles.

Up to 1000 premises due to go live on the 3rd of May.

What work has gone on in Enniscorthy I'd say it will be very close to the 1000.

Wexford county seems to be getting the most attention in this rollout so far!

I found the rollout in Wexford to be a little strange. The south of the county being really well looked after with the FTTH rollout but the north of the county not so much. I would know the majority of areas getting fibre in Co. Wexford and from looking at the rollout map the ones that need it most aren't getting it!
I also noticed that Gorey, probably the second largest town in the county was not part of the first 100,000 but is now down for Summer/Autumn 2017 so maybe things will change.

There have been 4-5 small scale WISPs set up in North Wexford in the last year covering the Gorey to Enniscorthy region. According to Imagine they are almost at full capacity in the area too (although that could be them just trying to get me to subscribe). I have a WISP at the moment and they have added 3 different high sites to their network in the last few months and struggle to cope with demand. In my community most people in the area use WISPs as they can barely get a reliable phone service and ADSL does not exist because of the distance to the exchange. My whole community has no access to fixed line broadband due to the distance to the exchange which services a village and then it extends out to my community. I would be one of the closest to the exchange in my community and can't get 1mb reliable ADSL.

I have seen Fibre cables up on on the half of a narrow road away from the local exchange which is crossagalla near Limerick city. It is the first fibre cables I saw up in this exchange area.
I have yet to see any fibre cables in the Inch St Lawernce exchange area which is my local. I have some driving around there has been gutting down towards Bohermore direction, around Caherconlish and towards the Caherconlish side of the Boher area. But there is no gutting done in the Ballyneety area and particularly the roads west of it which the yellow lines fall on it. It looks like they'll be waiting for some time after whenever the "live" date will be probably late May or June.

Thanks for that comprehensive spreadsheet Allison Puny Appetite, not been a p***k but I have spotted a duplication for Donegal, carndonagh so its 480 high.
I asked earlier about the yellow rollout line I'm on as it intersects an exchange boundary a few times, can you ask your contact which exchange I will be on as they both have diff dates?!

Thanks very much for the correction. I rely on other people to spot errors. Unfortunately my contact does not work for Openeir so would not have access to that information.

@Gonzo - Ran some tests earlier on 2.4 Ghz wifi and I'm not getting much more than 80-90 down on mobile devices, I did manage to get over 100 download (peaked at about 130) on a brand new laptop

Any of the other Kinvarra folk on this thread got their order in? and gotten an install date?

I've my "pre-order" in, the website says we are live but Eir keeps saying we don't go live until the 3rd of May. Interested to see if others who have ordered got the same info and if install dates start coming fairly soon.
