If the "extra story" is size of Majora to Ocarina then happy days, I'm a bit disappointed with them though over this...

It wouldn't sting as much had they not just rereleased Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, wherein their respective trials came at no extra cost. Kinda gives the rub of "well, to get your money's worth in gameplay is gonna cost you," but it's all pretty up-in-the-air 'til we're sat down with whatever BotW turns out to be and how satisfying the main gig is.

the main game is meant to have 200 or so hours of gameplay in it to find and do everything. if the dlc campaign is even 10% of that i'd be happy enough

Wait, there's a Cave of Trials and Hero Mode in other Zeldas?

Makes me think maybe I don't need this immediately.
There has to be an anniversary or a landmark date or Aonuma's birthday or something coming up in 2018. Gold Coin Discount! Gold Coin Discount!

Hrm I'm probably going to hold off on the season pass at the moment but I will probably pick it up when the second dlc is released.

DLC I can choose to ignore.

Paid subscriptions I don't mind as long as I feel I'm getting value for money - I am with Sony & MS. Nintendo have yet to prove themselves in this area.

While I don't mind paying for DLC, once I finish a game that's it, I don't come back 2-3 months later to play it again.

Not getting why people are so upset about this. Not specifically on here, but around the web.
You pay for the main game and if you want something extra at the end of the potentially 100s of hours of gameplay (in Zelda's case anyway) contained therein, you pay some more money and get it.
Personally I'll wait until DLC #2. The main game should be more than enough for a good long while.

So my brother is getting a switch. I can base my future purchase in one weekend sitting with him next month.

While I'm surprised it was announced already, it only makes sense to have some form of extra content in a game the size of BOTW. All extra content too so no real locked modes. I seem to remember Aonuma subtlety hinting at something like this in some interview last year, can't remember exactly though.

I saw the "leaked specs" earlier, seems to be exactly what Eurogamer had guessed, and yes it gives Nintendo a reason to be peeved....

Regardless, come launch day, they will be pulling it apart anyway to see what's in there so it doesn't make much difference in the grand scheme of things IMO....

Because they're announcing DLC before the game has been released. That's something "the other guys" do. This is the Nintendite faithful going through their first Horse Armour moment. Hopefully, the rest of the gaming world will remember how it feels and be considerate and sensitive.

I wonder, is this a subtle hug for EA and Activision and the like? Nintendo endorse their semi-games-as-a-service approach to DLC by applying it to their most appropriate flagship title?

Just remember not to follow him into the jacks when he continues playing in there! :pac:

Point. Still though, it is, as you said, the way of things these days.
What i think is far worse is when companies announce paid DLC that arguably should have been in the game in the first place.
As long as the big N don't start down that route, I'm pretty okay with them embracing this strategy.
    No micro-transactions though, Gods no!

Ah in fairness this isn't the first DLC on Nintendo system, Mario Kart 8 has it for a start. ****, horse armour though, that was amazing, especially coupled with Microsoft points so you weren't always 100% sure of the exact price.

I also assume any gamer of any persuasion is well versed in the ways of DLC at this point.

Maybe not to us, to Nintendo's relationship with smaller developers...who knows?

Got switchmas off work, delighted :D I've never wanted a console at launch and was always happy to wait the few months / years to get things at a cheaper price. This is the first one I've ever been this excited about, so I said I'd take a chance on it. Getting it with zelda, and also ordered the zelda carry case from gamestop.

I never got the WiiU so that probably helped my decision since this is the only way to play zelda. That, Mario Kart, Minecraft, and Skyrim are good enough reasons for me (I know the latter two aren't out until much later). I missed the Skyrim boat before since my PC wasn't powerful enough, so I'm happy I'll get the chance with the switch. I also don't mind the staggered releases since I'm someone who never buys a tonne of games in one go and I'll spread my purchases, but I can see why others might be a bit worried about the perceived lack of choice initially.

I'm now just hoping GameStop in Dundrum do a midnight launch so I can spend the whole day on it when I get it :D

Somebody, on this very thread yesterday, said that Switchmas was only 2 weeks away. After consulting a calendar and using my fingers and toes, I can confirm that it is 17 days to Switchmas.

17 days is not two weeks. I now need therapy, cake and coffee.

Whoever was asking about cancelling pre orders in Gamestop, I went in there with my receipt and loyalty card, gave me the €400 for the switch and zelda back no hassle.

Still gonna buy the thing at launch though, but Tesco staff discount + clubcard vouchers are too much of a deal to pass up as compared to giving Gamestop €420 total.

I'm also curious to see if I'll pick up any cool switch accessories when I'm in Japan over the summer.

Woo, friend :pac: I rang them today asking about a midnight launch and the guy said they won't know until a week or two before launch. I'll ring them again next week, but at least it's not a no. If there's a midnight launch, I'm going :D

As the Tesco in Dundrum is open till midnight anyway, there's a chance for it at least. Doubtful for the Square I'd say!
