I'm going to GameStop today to cancel all my switch pre orders including the console itself :(

I've flip flopped between holding onto the order and canceling the last few days but I've decided to cancel.

The big thing for me is that I've never properly played a Zelda game before so can't get overly excited about the new game.

The one thing I was holding out for was the virtual console at launch but doesn't look likely.

As I said over in the 3DS thread I think my best bet at the moment would be a new 3DS. I love playing games on the Wii U gamepad rather than the TV but it recent months the games have started lagging on the gamepad so the games are unplayable and have to be played on the TV.

So I think a new 3DS with the virtual console and finally playing through a full Zelda game like OOT 3D is the way to go and hopefully I'll really enjoy Zelda so Zelda\Mario + the switch at Xmas will be something to look forward to.

Hope everyone getting it day one enjoys Switchmas though!!

No, just one official €50 price cut. To this day it's still €300(or more depending on the bundle) which is ludicrous.

That was them discontinuing to stock the Wii U.

It's obviously 100% crucial for on-the-go online gaming, although anyone who has ever had a laptop or whatever else with them at an airport or hotel can attest that regardless of the devices' ability to actually login to public WiFi that it's nearly never a consistent connection.

I'm not trying to be an apologist here, but playing splatoon 2 in an airport is going to be a non-goer more often than not. Important to differentiate between that and someone who wants to play the new Zelda or Mario or whatever that in no way is dependent on internet.

All that does is take away the common ground that the Browserites had with the Purists - it was never about the sign-on pages for me, I actually want a browser for web browsing - but regardless of how you feel about a browser on a console the ability to sign in to free wifi is crucial for on-the-go gaming.

The wording is a little worrying - it suggests that the web applet is available but it needs to be implemented on a per-game basis. I'm sure Ninty's first party stuff will maintain a consistent approach but I shudder to think how half arsed EA might be about it...

Edit : Regarding Price Drops, I got mine for around €200 from Zavvi around March of 2013. There were a couple of big price drops to the sub 200 mark for the 32GB console that year due to how fashionable it became to talk doom and gloom around the Wii U.

i would imagine signing into wifi would not be done in each game but instead in the system settings. the per game bases thing sounds more like say for ubisoft games signing into uplay or "shudders" bringing up microtrasaction pages

I almost think trying to do on the go wifi gaming is a non starter. I don't like the fact Mario Run requires a constant connection even with 4G, and in all my years of owning a Vita with several games using online multiplayer, I've never played it outside the house away from a regular wifi signal.

Got an email from The Game Collection who have now taken payment for my Zelda/Pro Controller.

    The excitement is real.

I have to say im slightly unsure on the purchase on launch day. the only game i find myself interested in is zelda. the problem i have is its say 400 with zelda and kids have the wii u still. i just dont know whether theres enough at launch to interest me. sorry for dragging a negative in two weeks from launch

Honestly, I jumped on here to discuss the same. I have it preordered along with Zelda but after looking at the differences between the Wii U and the Switch versions, I am not sure if it's worth buying the console on launch?

Looking at the release schedule for 2017, the only game that massively interests me is Super Mario Oddessy. I loved Splatoon and MK8, but the Switch games are just upgrades or remakes.

So essentially, the console will gather dust once I am finished with Zelda. There will certainly be an Odyssey and console bundle so may wait for that at Christmas.

Just wanted to highlight these as being 'negative' comments done right. And nobody has a problem with any of these, and all the points are relevant and valid complaints.

Early adopters, regardless of platform, always have to pay a premium, that's just how it is. The return on investment will vary from person to person. I know I'll have plenty to keep me occupied from what's available, so I'm looking forward to it.

Are there more Wii U owners than I thought or are ye all just concentrated in this forum? Looking forward to this more and more tbh. As I never had the Wii U I'd be interested in some of its flagship titles being ported over.

Mario Kart 8 is going to renew your faith in the racing genre, it's just amazing.

Nintendo Switch: Koizumi on jack port when docked, video output, GameCube Virtual Console, more

The Nintendo Switch comes out in less than three weeks, but there’s still many things we don’t know about. Nintendo has already confirmed more details would be shared before launch, but some of them will most likely not be mentioned anywhere (except the manual, or previews/reviews from news outlets), due to them only being of use for a limited subset of users.

That’s the case of users who want to use the jack port of the main unit even while playing in docked mode (because their current TV/Monitor setup doesn’t allow them to use wired a headset, for example). In an interview with Melty (a French outlet), Yoshiaki Koizumi confirmed that users will be able to plug-in their headphone/headset to the jack port of the main unit even when docked.

That way, they will be able to get audio output via the jack port even when playing on the TV. Naturally, users will also be able to use a compatible Bluetooth headset/headphones.

In that same interview, Yoshiaki Koizumi confirmed that the only way to output video on a TV (or any other monitor) would be via the dock. It will not be possible to use the USB-C port, with a USB to HDMI adapter for example. In other words, if you want to use your Nintendo Switch on two different TVs / monitors, you will have no other choice but to buy a second dock (or move around the one that comes with the console).

But that’s not all Yoshiaki Koizumi had to say about the Nintendo Switch. He also shared a few words about the possible addition of GameCube games to the Virtual Console service on the console.

As you can imagine, he didn’t announce anything, but he didn’t outright deny the possiblity when asked about GameCube games on Virtual Console:
"We cannot give a concrete answer, because we have nothing to announce at the moment. But there’s something I can tell you: we are working on some things along those lines."

But if Nintendo were to release GameCube games on the Virtual Console, there would be a problem with the many games that actually make use of the analog triggers. One possible solution would be to use GameCube-shaped Joy-Cons, and in fact, fans have already come up with mock-ups.

Koizumi explained that the console was designed in such a way that it would be perfectly possible to connect future accessories/extensions to the Nintendo Switch (something he already mentioned in a previous interview), so such an accessory could definitely become a reality.

As for Shinya Takahashi, he explained that if Nintendo were to release GameCube-shaped Joy-Cons, they would make sure to add analog triggers. He also thinks the whole thing would be rather bulky and hideous, though!

I agree regarding early adopters, will always pay more than everyone else, I don't mind investing in a Switch as I don't want Nintendo out of the hardware game, I really don't....

That's actually a huge part of me wanting this more than software at the moment, as realistically (for me) there won't be anything between Zelda and MK8 and then MK8 and Odyssey, anything else is a bonus for me....

It's my first Nintendo machine since the OG Wii, I'm dying for it as I ignored the Wii U other than playing my nephew's one when I was at his house... :)

At the moment only Zelda will be coming with mine, no extra controllers or any of that stuff, truth be told I can't actually afford much with the post Xmas light pockets...

I was going to cancel my pre order as not much there for me but it's not going to be my primary gaming machine, I have a PS4 Pro for all the third party stuff...

And one more thing, I hoped and wanted Mario Maker more than anything else, and of course no word of it getting converted.... :(

I had a Wii U, and loved it but had to let it go for The Switch as I simply don't believe in having dust collectors lying around ( which would've happened to the U, and it deserves better.)
I don't think the price of early adoption is going to be too high this time, at least not for me.
I get a more powerful Nintendo console will all of the first party brilliance it will bring, that fits in better with the way I travel and the amount of time I have for gaming.
The fact that we're getting upgraded Mario Kart and Splatoon so quickly (to of my favourite Wii U games) is huge for me.
I admit though, that I'm in a very particular situation where the Switch meets all my needs.

Edit: I also just WANT it.

I want Nintendo to stay in the hardware race too, but... I wasn't happy with the Wii U, 3DS, PS4 at launch. I'm currently annoyed the €400 my PS4 Pro cost me doesn't seem to be that valuable, given the lack of software to utilise it. It's not like I haven't got a stack of games to get through...

If my PS4 dies (which it sounds like it wants to sometimes) I'd probably replace it with a slim.

What about the forthcoming Boost mode?.

    I would, wish I had.

I think a lot of this boils down to what games you play whether you see Pro benefits - I play a bit of BF1, I can see how much better the game looks compared to "standard" PS4 in sitting room, then I play 30fps 1080p destiny and it's pretty difficult to look at after playing Battlefield!

Fallout 4 got it's Pro update and it looks sweet since...

    Have you a 4K TV?

I have one in the kitchen, and play on it usually every second weekend, I can see the whole HDR and resolution looking amazing in certain games alright, it's only going to get better also....

What about the forthcoming Boost mode?.

Seems to be marginal upgrades for some stuff, like Bloodborne. Pro came out at the beginning of November, and I've hardly noticed the upgrades on most stuff, even on a 4K HDR television.

I am still on the fence with my order also, still feel I made the right decision waiting over a year to get the Wii U after launch and also the 3DS, not only did I save money on the consoles, but I also had a nice selection of games to choose from at that point at lower prices as well.

The console for me will only be for exclusives, just like the Wii U, as a PC gamer I would go that route for any indie titles and everything else will be on the PS4, there is one thing though, if I did not have the choice of getting Zelda for the Wii U, I would definitely be edging more to getting the Switch at launch.

Yes but its being beta tested right now, and Digital Foundry and various sites have done analysis of the boost to games like bloodborne, just cause, the witcher.

And it does not much in them games, but the likes of driving games seem to get a nice upgrade....

It's games built from ground up where you will most likely see benefits...

My lads have a PC and I honestly find it difficult to distinguish Shadow Of Mordor on PS4 Pro from its PC counterpart, frame rate being the only telling sign....

Well this is a glaring pile of poo :

    Paying for a difficulty spike?

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-02-14-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-hard-mode-cave-of-trials-part-of-17-99-season-pass

Nintendo has announced a £17.99 (€20/$20) expansion pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

It's the first season pass for any mainline Zelda game. You'll be able to buy it from the game's launch day, 3rd March.

Included in the pass are two main packs of extra content.

"DLC Pack 1" arrives this summer. It'll add a new Cave of Trials challenge (an increasingly difficult set of dungeon floors filled with enemies to clear), a hard mode for the game and an "additional map feature".

"DLC Pack 2" will then launch this winter and add a new original story, new dungeon and "additional challenges".

You cannot buy the packs separately, Nintendo has said, even though the second pack will be the one people are waiting for.

As soon as you buy the pass, however, you will unlock three chests of useful items within the game's starting area. One of these chests will contain an exclusive Nintendo Switch shirt for Link to wear.

(The pass is also available on Wii U - still with the same Switch shirt).

    Oh god.

I don't care if this is now standard practice, paying for these kinda reasons to keep playing a game is nonsense. Never mind the fact it's likely to be the most challenging part of said game.

More than just "hard mode" in fairness. The Cave of Trials in other Zelda games was a great extra challenge, and a new dungeon and story in the 2nd DLC sounds like worthwhile content.
