Just as an update I connected today(7:30) at 48k with virtually no probs so I'm happy as a pig in muck.
Thanks all for the help, advice and judicious use of the snippers:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 304 ✭✭Rags

Question for the utv guys, I remember you saying that you would try to implement subscribing to 2 packages on ISDN so we could get 128k speeds. So whats the update on this?

Yea, they seem to have ironed out the niggles. Speeds are good again.

If UTV guys are reading this you'll want to start annoying Eircom to get yourself a broadband package to sell . . .

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Yes, please please PLEASE try to get some sort of broadband service going. You'd probably get 80% of the current UTVip customers to sign up for it, then it's just a case of blanket-advertising it on UTV... (much like Eircon do on their bitch, RTE) to get a decent % of the market :]

    Hear hear.

I desperately want that broadband, but I don't want eircom. Please, please, please resell us the eircom product without the cap.

I'd urge everyone to wait and not get tied into a eircom contract.

This is our chance, the consumer, to vote with our feet...

...and there might be just a little bit of payback involved too:D

Yep I will change immediately to DSL if UTV have a package available. I would be loathed to change back to Eircom.

So Scott or Malcolm will you offer a package when Eircom have a wholesale rate ??

    Gandalf.

I know you're working on it but I just gotta add my vote to any UTV broadband. You've already saved me a small fortune and I've been very happy with quality, price and service. :)

Just one point.. Some kind of proper upgrade path from ISDN would be much appreciated since I'd imagine there's a lot of people out there in the same situation.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 512 ✭✭✭BoneCollector

i have not switched from esat nolimts to UTVIP
But if they can resell the errcom broadband i would jump ship right now!! :)

Come on UTV where waiting..... :)
our incumbent is 2 faced and we want another option
not to mention that errcoms contract is one way and they can cut you off anytime and make you pay the rest of the 12months tarif..

If UTV brings pressure to bear on Eircom to upgrade my exchange, I've got three accounts ready and waiting, and I'll bloody well do a flyer run if I have to get more.

I will dump ISDN & IOL No Limits straight away if UTV offers DSL at Eircom's price (or lower) without the cap..

With the cap, Eircom's offer is still way too restricted.

UTVIP, come on, work your magic!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,389 ✭✭✭jonski

just a quick reminder of why alot of us would sign up for UTVIP adsl if they were to offer it.....went to view my statement today and this is what the page said

    "December 2002 Statements

The December 2002 statements are currently unavailable whilst we reprocess call charges for 25th and 26th December to be rated as "Off Peak" all day.

Also national rate calls from 20th December to 31st December are being re-rated to reflect the recent charge rate reductions made by Eircom.

We apologise for the delay, but want to assure you that we shall not take payment from your account until at least 7 days after the statement becomes available.

    Close Window "

funny how when i hear about esat or eircom offering what i really want I decide to wait awhile and see what happens..If utv offered it I don't think I would wait , they have proven to me since october that they are a company with whom i wouldn't mind parting with my hard earned cash .

I would also love to get a UTV ADSL product.

I was just looking at UTVs clicksilver ADSL prouct in the North here

    512 kbps / 256 kbps, NO CAP, £27.50 (EUR 41.50)

I would love to see UTV offer the following best case scenario in the south:
512 kbps / 128 kbps, NO CAP, EUR 45 (Incl VAT)

This would sell like hot cakes to Joe Public

However EUR 50 - 55 is more realistic (and I would still get it), but NO CAP or a high cap (30 GB/ month) is a must.

No comments from the good people at UTV yet about new broadband developements? No real point to this post sorry, just hate seeing the UTV tread of the main page

Anything over 35 euro will sadly be out of my reach.
If there was 256k option for for 35 euro I'd go for it (if and when my exchange gets upgraded).

Just found out there was a massive DDoS attack on a huge amount of servers last night...115 million packets of DDoS stuff!

    So, the internet is broke.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 333 ✭✭mechanima

    Are you sure?

I can believe it though...my web host, hostbet was finally brought down by a DDOS attack 2 weeks ago.

WHAT does anybody get out of this...(and why is iolfree immune? I dialed in on them - but I just realised I had to reboot to get THEM which often indicates a personal DDos)

What confuses me is why anyone would organise such a large DDoS on UTV?

    /me looks at Eircon ;]

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

They didn't specifically target anyone, it looks like the code red virus from last year, generating random IP's. UTV looks ok now.

That's right. There was a huge DDOS attack last night which exploited Micro$oft SQL server. Half the internet went down and there was a global slowdown. There was huge packetloss on all the main backbones.

Is anyone else having problems with the UTV smtp sever (ie-smtp.utvinternet.com)?
I'm getting the following error when trying to send mail:
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection.
Possible causes for this include server problems, network
problems, or a long period of inactivity.
    Account: '******@utvinternet.com',
Server: 'ie-smtp.utvinternet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
    Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Could this have something to do with the DDoS attack?

    ie-smtp.utvinternet.com
    I use 'smtp.utvinternet.com' - try that?

And let's have a UTV DSL product!

    Nope,

I seem to have been using smtp.utvinternet.com since resetting at Xmas, and I can't get a thing out.

I had the same problem, they must have blocked access from the south, possibly because of the DDOS this morning. Change it back to ie-smtp and you'll be ok. I looked in their FAQs but there doesn't seem to be any mention of it for some reason.

Reset it to ie-smtp.utvinternet.com and three mails popped neatly out!

    Thanks

    Well blow me!!

Well, thanks for the offer, but a simple "thank you" would have sufficed. :)
