yeah definately would .... AT least for 100Euro you are guranteed a good time. You bring a woman out for dinner and drinks and there is no gurantee you'll get laid. So definately would get a hooker.

    Right folks,

This is 2005 & sex for sale is the oldest profession in the world. Was always around & always will be.

Those who say they wouldn't are liars ;)

Nothing wrong with paying for sex imo once you're not supporting criminal activity by doing so
Paying someone for sex isn't illegal in either this country or the UK. It's 'soliciting' that's illegal, i.e. the adverstising or requesting of sexual favours for material gain.

I reckon Ireland should legalise prostitution. Not like our government to pass up on an opportunity for more tax revenue, is it? 21% on services, isn't it? :)

Seriously though, as long as people are willing to pay for sex, there'll be prostitution and as long as there are those who are desperate enough for money that they will sell themselves, there'll be prostitution.

Saying that either the prostitutes or the punters are sad or pathetic is baffling to me.

For anyone who thinks that prostitutes are sad and pathetic because they are drug addicts, that's a slightly different thing. But speaking for myself, I'd sooner a desperate drug addict was a prostitute than a mugger of little old ladies or a robber.
For anyone who thinks that the people who use prostitutes are sad and pathetic, I suppose it could be because they can't get laid, or can't get a partner to do whatever the particular sexual thing it is that they crave. So would you prefer such people worked themselves up into a frenzy of violent frustration and grabbed some innocent passer by woman and raped her? I wouldn't.

At least in prostitution, both parties know why they are there and what they're getting.

If it was legalised, there'd be more protection for the postitutes, from nefarious pimps and violent punters and there'd be more protection for the punters, from being robbed or from disease.

    The Individualistic Fallacy.
Drawing inferences about everyone based on the preferences or beliefs of one person.

Seems like that bloke has clearly fallen into that trap...

The Government legalise prostitution? Are you on crack? Dude, the cost of a packet of cigarettes is about 90% tax (excise) and you can't even smoke in a pub in this country any more.

I've had several brassers (never in Ireland) and I've had a great time every time. And so did they. I wouldn't be keen on anything in Ireland tho, very expensive and they're not as good aparently.

    Am I on crack???
Why, would they let me smoke that in the pubs? :D

No, I'm not on crack, I was being facetious about teh government legalising prostitution. They need to legalise abortion first, to get with the rest of Europe, first, before they legalise prostitution.
And we all know they'll never do that in a pink fit

What's the logic behind that one?

Personally, if a girl offered me money for sex I'd be flattered, I wouldn't do it simply because I don't really think paying for sex is a good thing, but I'd certainly be happy that a girl thought I was good enough to pay money for :)

The logic behind that one is that we are so far behind Europe and the rest of the western world (US, Australia, far East etc) with respect of basic women's rights that until we get up to the mark, we've no chance whatsoever of being anything like as progressive as those countries where prostitution is legal.

    rofl!

No I wouldn't, to begin with too paranoid about STIs...and probably the whole moral thing too.

It'd be the only way I could get it (I'll just traumatise you all once more), but I still wouldn't do it. Tut-tut at all the sex-payers.

I honestly can't believe the ignorance of some of the posters on this thread. Kernel, go look at some of the websites on-line, particularly the escort sites with "independent" in the title (i.e. the working girls that work for themselves rather than a pimp). You'll find that many of these girls actually travel here from England, book into a hotel and have clients come visit them there. No explotiation there(unless you consider €200 for an hour's "services" to be exploitation of the desperate/kinky).

It's a profession for many women. Trafficking of women is abhorrant, as is pimping drug addicts to "allow" them support their habit and it's those on their moral high-horse that allow this to happen. A legislated and controlled prostitution industry would drastically reduce the instances of this but unfortunately some people believe that their moral or religious beliefs should apply to everyone.

Let me ask you a question Kernel, would you mind if your sister/mother worked for Nike? Nestle? Texaco? Shell? All four of these companies have been involved in mass violations of human rights (up to and including murder if journalistic reports are to be believed). Would you rather have a family member involved in this than in the consensual trade of money for sex? If so, I recommend you have a long hard look at yourself.

What's the difference between paying someone to give you a massage or paying them to fellate you? Both are services involving physical intimacy with a stranger that satisfy a desire for pleasure and relaxation.

The assertation that all prostitutes are only involved in the industry due to coercion or drug addiction is laughable. As Finfacts pointed out: "[the studies being quoted] are biased: they tend to be carried out by staff at drop-in centres and by the police, who tend to see the most troubled streetwalkers. Taking their clients as representative of all prostitutes is like assessing the state of marriage by sampling shelters for battered women." With rates of over a thousand euro for a single nights work (over twice my weekly salary) it's quite easy to see why some women choose this line of work.

Now, before you accuse me of depravity (or whatever else you consider utilising prostitutes services to be), I don't use escorts, prostitutes, callgirls, hookers or whatever else you'd like to call them. I do find the notion of plying a girl with drink until she's incapable of refusing your sexual advances far more repellant but I've never found it necessary to do either. I just did my research before making a prolonged post on this topic. A quick google on the words Irish and Independent will give you most of the information you need tbh. No-ones moral standpoint is a valid rebuttal of reason and until you can provide *reasoned* argument for the continued legislative relegation of the prostitution industry to the black market I suggest you don't post in this thread again.

Im a female and I personally think that it should be legalised and regulated... Not because I think its a particularly good career choice for women but because as they say it is the oldest profession, it has always been around and always will be.. I think it would save a lot of women from getting disease and being assaulted on the streets.. I dont condone having sex for money but I do believe in freedom of choice...
