Hello, does anyone know if a piece of stucco work by Pat McAuliffe which reads [or read] 'Ecce Signum' [behold, the sign] on the gable end of Trant's Farmhouse Toornageehy, Listowel is still in existence ?

    Thanks

I would suggest that Kingdumb contact the Trant family with the query, re, McAuliffe's stucco work.

I could live with November weather like this, taken earlier this week in the town park.

    Hi Mike,
I have have a copy of that booklet on my bookshelf. From my reading it might still be intact as it doesn't say it 'was' on the gable of the farmhouse.

Did anybody else see Francis Brennan when he spoke in the Seanchai a couple of weeks ago? Great speaker.

One of the interesting points he raised was how the Sheen Valley has a booklet listing 100 things to do around Bonane. I was trying to think of 101 things a visitor could do in Listowel, because surely we've got more going on given the size of the place but came up short.

    I can start...

    1) River Walk
    2) Kerry Writers' Museum
    3) Fine dining in award-winning restaurants
    4) Classic Cinema
    5) Listowel Food Fair
    6) ...

    6) Lartigue Monorail
    7) Famine Graveyard
    8) Military Museum
    9) Military Tattoo Festival thing: that they have on the May b/h weekend I think
    10) Writers Week
    11) Listowel Races
    12) Listowel Castle
    13) Garden of Europe
    14) St Johns Theatre
    15) John B Keanes pub
    16) children's playground
    17) Pitch and Putt
    18) Our fabulous boutiques for shopping
    19) ???

Now I'm stumped! We can surely get to 101 :)

I'd say you'd have to expand it outside the town of Listowel. In which case I'd add

    23) Carrigafoyle Castle
    24) Lislaughtin Abbey
    25) Rattoo Round Tower
    26)...

    :D:D:D good one.
Plenty of ammunition for general gossip over the last few days, a mini crime wave with at least 3 houses being broken into, one in Luachra road was done between 1.30 and 5.30 in the afternoon, back window job.
It looks like our Post Office is on the move, its strongly tipped to end up back near Garveys. The William street traders wont be too happy as this will be a big blow to levels of traffic. Speaking of traffic when this happens I will be giving Convent street a wide berth on Payment days I can imagine some traffic snarl ups.

I think the post office move is interesting: and I feel very sorry for the party shop: any word on where they are going? Also there goes any chance at all of getting a parent and child spot ever again!

The pot holes and state of the road surface on William street is a disgrace. There are cars now heavily swerving to avoid them.

    Just going to keep going

    37) Walking our charming cobbled streets
    38) Selfie with John B. Keane Statue
    39) Ireland's only Holocaust monument
    40) Christmas lighting ceremony
    41) Traditional pubs
    42) Stay in Listowel Arms
    43) Stay in family-run guest house
    44) Dance the night away in Mermaids' nightclub
    45) St Patrick's day parade
    46) Christmas parade
    47) ...

The barrel is deeper than you'd think. But it's always easier to be negative than constructive I guess.
