Grand, but wasn't it just €1 prior to the introduction of this DRS scheme?? Except it came in a plastic recyclable bottle.

No deposit charged alright …… but double the price.

    Thank you oh Green Masters.

The thing is we never had a local authority waste collection service - they couldn't be arsed. So we had to collect all our bags of waste and pack them in a trailer every now & then and bring them 20 miles to a depot.

You know what? We were very happy when the private domestic waste collection came to our area and glad to pay them.

I can't understand the wasters who think these things should be free.

If it is really about increasing the recycling rate, then surely manual bulk return depots should be opened up in various places in each county, so that EVERY item can be returned, with no rejects, and all deposits returned .

The DAA are green now ? 🙂

Anyway they'll be waiting to make any extra money from me.

For years now I've been filling my sports bottle for free.

Cheese sandwich, apple and KitKat from home in the bag too.

I like this machine , seems to just count items, rather than scan and reject half of them like our machines.

thank you for the lovely videos, i watched all 3! the second one would have to be my favorite among them <3

the sad part about it though is when reality hits and i realized after seeing the workers there doing all that, i realized irelands re-turn scheme won't have any of that as it costs money and they don't want to put their hand in their pocket, and just keep wanting everything to be publicly funded. i feel the scheme is as bad as it is already because of all the shortcuts they're taking and not having a proper go of it. All these other different countries are doing their deposit return schemes the right way. Why can't ireland look at what they're actually doing and make it work, instead of just seeing the idea, pretending we're doing the same, and expecting unresonable results in comparison when we dont even have the same technology being used in our deposit return scheme over here

They just want the quick easy money cash grab recyclables and to up their recycling stats at your expense.

If it was about recycling it would count them, accept them all for recycling, but only pay out the deposit for 60-70% of them.

Rather than spitting out half as rejects leaving the consumer to either bring them home again to put in their green bin, or bin them in the black bin at the shopping centre.

does anyone know what the story is with lids on plastic bottles? i was in a lidl earlier today and seen a sign on both machines saying "remove lids from plastic bottles before inserting" . i thought they wanted the lids too? is'nt that the whole point why alot of lids these days now have a plastic thingy attached keeping them intact to the bottle?

Companies making their own rules up. This system needs to be completely standardised across all shops before the public loose confidence in it.

The bottles are crushed, no? When lid the cap is fastened, they can't be crushed. an example is the sports bottle lid

yeah true, it seems like alot are making up their own rules. Maybe Lidl machines are weaker inside? random idea/theory. Could maybe require more pressure to crush a bottle with a lid rather than one without. or it could be just a different reason like "do it our way so our machines last longer by using less effort on the rvm's part", or maybe for image reasons and not wanting to offend others passing by with the sound of the pops going sometimes when things are crushed.

    They're shredded.

Caps are absolutely meant to be left on, and that's why they're now tied on (EU directive on that).

Retailers making stuff up, like the limited hours for cash redemptions, has to be stopped.

they can be crushed, and oh boy sometimes the noise is hilarious. But yeah can be frustrating if you have a whole bag of stuff. i jumped the other day when hearing one. i can only describe the sound as like kind of a loud sudden pop. It's not always guarnteed with sports cap lids though.

Also noticed alot more return logo's in lidl today, especially on the likes of bottled water, and the regular well known brands like coca cola etc. All brandishing the return logo.

Third time using my local machine. Six bootles that had been creating a nice clutter in my kitchen all week. Three bottles in the familiar clunking and grinding to a halt followed by the jammed and out of order sign. The machine beside it took the other three bottles so got refunded for 50% of what i brought back. Three strikes and I'm out with this stupid system and machines that are not fit for purpose. Bottles going in the green bin from now on like they always did and no more bottles cluttering the house.

I flew out 2 weeks ago & afaik, the bottle has also increased to €2.

I’m very pro recycling and indeed this system makes no difference to my efforts all previously via green bin. However, in my limited experience the Lidl machines get jammed and require staff to spend considerable time resetting them etc. customers are getting fed up, staff are too I’m sure. Better get resolved before people lose confidence in the system…

So far had no issue with machines in tesco, lidl or aldi. I use them at quite times of the day. Even used the voucher at a self service till in tesco no problem.. then again we don't use to many bottles or cans so only return a few items at a time

Pnotable the word. Good to hear

Why degrading if you bought and drank them? Recycling/claiming the small amount aside, if you don't want to be seen bringing back a bag full of empty bottles/cans, don't buy/drink them.

As I said, it wouldn't be fool-proof by any means. But the same store stipulation does add some security. It's the only reason I can see for it.

As I haven't dome a return yet, I'm not sure what security measures are on the vouchers. From screen-shots here they look easily forged (I'm surprised someone hasn't gone down that path rather sticking than barcodes on toilet-rolls)

Dublin has drinks fountains, which I think are filtered. Tap water I wouldn't drink

Hah! I learnt something today. While I knew you couldn't use a coupon from a Lidl RVM at say Tesco, I hadn't realised that it also can't be used in any other Lidl store. I can see why this might be the case, but FFS!!!
