Sinéad O’Connor, acclaimed Dublin singer, dies aged 56

Very shocking news. Sinéad O’Connor has sadly passed away. It was only in the last week that on radio, I can't remember the programme but they were playing Prince singing Nothing Compares 2 U and they were saying it wasn't often Prince was bested, but he really was by Sinead. She put her own signature on it and made it hers. I remember when this song released, I was only a young child and it was a huge deal. This was one of my favourite songs of hers from In the Name of the Father.

You Made Me the Thief of Your Heart

SNL really should have had her on after all the scandals came out , her career was ruined for telling the truth and that scumbag Joe pesci threatening her a few weeks later on the same show.

I hope she is at peace now. She was so wronged by people. Condolences to those who will miss her.

What an utterly incredible talent, and a human tour de force, someone who has earned their rest a thousand times over.

I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got is one of the great albums. RIP.

One of the voices of my late teens and early 20's. This version of the song grew on me over the years. Her little smile and wave at the end said it all.

So sorry to see her go.

    RIP.

One of the finest voices I’ve ever had the privilege of hearing.

The best Irish voice that I have ever heard live.

Her version of "She moves through the fair" brings this hardy 53 year old bloke to tears.

    RIP.

Just heard this, it really sucks.

Nothing Compares 2 U is probably my favourite single by an Irish artist of all time.

She bore many mental health issues over recent years and then the death of her son really had a devastating affect on her.

A truly wonderful person and dealt a bad hand in life on too many occasions.

She seem to take her son's death very badly. Hardly in the public eye since.

She is intertwined into the memories of the era of great change in this country for so many of us.

However, she always seemed to be a deeply troubled person and away from her success she had a lot of personal troubles to deal with.

    Glazers Out!

Well that’s dreadfully sad news. Such a huge part of my younger years in Ireland hearing and seeing her on the TV.

Ah Jesus, you often felt it was coming but hoped it never would.

I fear people will only being to realise how good she was now, take Your Green Jacket for example, a masterpiece decades after some of her great early work.

She was years and years ahead of her time and maybe too spiritual and wise for most of this island to appreciate.

    God be good to her.
