Yeah its highly unusual on a forum to have posters with differing opinions. Suggest you try something like twitter.

The point is, both versions are from people that appear to have an irrational dislike of a fella who's just doing his job...so, same opinion, different outcome. Twitter is great BTW.

As a relatively young, very healthy person, please give me one reason I should take this rushed, very questionable vaccine. Because I can think of way more reasons that I shouldn't take it...

But the government blackmail attempts are a problem travel passports etc

I'm sure there's a vaccine thread for that kind of question.

Because it may help you not transmit the virus to someone other than yourself who may be very vulnerable to it.

What vulnerable can’t take the vaccine themselves?

I’ve not heard yet of anyone not actually taking the vaccine due to underlying conditions

If you feel coerced into doing something, you probably are. Don’t do it if you are not afraid to be ostracised. Short term it may be painful, but you will learn that it is really long term that matters.

When you hear about pregnant women and people in palliative care taking their jabs, I get a sense of wtf - but hey their choice. Am I supposed to now worry about the people who are both vulnerable AND anti-vax?

I'm a bit past caring for every overweight loudmouthed boomer in existence, is there a line somewhere?

I believe there are some people who can't take the vaccine for some medical reason.

In any case it is up to each individual whether he or she takes the vaccine or not. The overwhelming consensus is that they should however.

I think that not taking it because of a worry about it being "questionable" is questionable in it's own right however as i think the risk of any significant side effects are extremely low.

Each to their own but people taking vaccines are our way out of this thing.

True. I read and heard people with ME and autoimmune issues say they can't take the vaccine but all the medical opinion is that patients with autoimmune diseases are far safer getting the Covid vaccine than not.

I know a couple of people who have convinced themselves that they can't take the vaccine without ever discussing it with their doctors. It's not that they don't want to but they are genuinely convinced they can't.

    Why post fake news?

    "Vaccination centres
Under the new deal, GPs and pharmacists will be paid €25 for administering each dose of the vaccine in their surgeries or in centres in their localities. An additional single €10 processing fee will be paid per patient. For a two-dose vaccine, such as that being produced by AstraZeneca, the total paid will be €60.

If a single-dose vaccine is subsequently approved, the total paid to GPs will be €35.

Whatever happens, there's a few things that are essential...

    - Cases will rise. This needs to be accepted as part of the reopening rather than NPHET immediately demanding lockdown again a few weeks later

    - As things reopen, they will STAY open, and with as little restrictions as possible. We can't keep messing with people's jobs and the viability of businesses by imposing shutdowns or conditions that will add costs and discourage customers

    - Inter-county travel needs to be restored urgently for all. The nonsense that the GAA can travel but not the average punter is ridiculous

... without the above it'll be the same farce we saw last year.

I think we all know the drill at this stage.

    Reopening happens and cases rise.

The media - who are financially incentivized to hype up the hysteria - will hype up the hysteria.

NPHET will release statements about how "deeply concerning" the situation is

Karen on Facebook will demand action.

The politicians will decide that borrowing and spending an extra few billion quid is totally worth it if they can't be called 'granny-killers'.

    Everything gets shut again.

France will announce the reopening of outdoor dining/drinking for mid-May. Though they are the most impacted European country at the moment, they plan for the future, because they are confident that the vaccination will put them in a much better position in a month time.

Ireland which had one of the lowest positivity rates for a month and a half now is still not able to plan anything. We need to wait 2/4/6 more weeks, these weeks are crucial, there are subjects of concern, ....

This will require tackling what i heard referred to as the "gross sentimentalism" which has gripped many over the last year. In the midst of life we are in death. The passing of someone elderly, while sad for the family is not a "tragedy".

I don't have an irrational dislike of Tony Holohan. I have doubts about his competency and his suitability for his role considering his track record in the job.

I struggle to have respect for people in high-position and authority who do not respect the general citizenry in return deigning to condescendingly explain what's expected of them.

Late Late appearances and daily press conferences that present public health advice as a defacto rule of law, usurping the popular legitimacy entrusted in our elected officials to govern on our behalf is worrying and wrong.

Yea that's my impression too. Sniggering away when trying to challenge on something that wasn't what the man said because he didn't listen.

    Awful presenter

I’m not sure Tony will get his way here. The government know that public patience is fraying around the edges and need to address that:
Do we know what exactly the disagreement is on?

Emm, to another county- to see family members/friends that haven't been able to see each other legally since last December!

If restrictions don't effect some people on here they don't care about how they affect others- zero empathy. I'm alright jack.

Fair play Mark. Calling out not only the lack of strategy but Micheal Martin's/the Government's entire approach to this.

Healy shouldn't be let near anything beyond a vox pop again though. He's trying to stir up another media headline that NT will no doubt be playing back in their news headlines for the rest of the day.
