No, we are the worst in the world

Here's the thing though, Ireland needs to be one of the best countries for vaccination because we are so strict in terms of messing up people's lives with endless restrictions.

Is there anywhere else in the world where I would not be allowed to work (construction associated), as in tell me literally anywhere. Ireland is an outlier in terms of restrictions unfortunately.

Sanofi to produce 12 million doses a month of the J&J vaccine.

It's not clear to me whether this is a new 12 million, or support with existing production. I think it's new capacity.

Have to say, all these instances of companies lending their support/infrastructure to their "rivals" is very heartening. Things might be dark now, but it really seems like in a couple of months we'll be well on our way to getting everyone covered.

Presumably with Sanofi being French, all these additional J&J shots will likely be exclusively for the EU ?

Isn't that based on J&J supply?

EMA still have not approved them, O'Neill said they were days away a few weeks ago, nothing heard since, he spouted the same optimistic bull**** for Pfizer, Moderna, Astra and they all were approved much later than he claimed they would be, they waited until the bitter end of deadline they set themselves

EMA will do the same again, wait till the last day of the deadline they set themselves like they did with for Pfizer, Moderna, Astra. All this rolling review rubbish we here from them doesn't seem to be speeding things up at all
The 1 million per month excludes J&J

J&J applied for conditional marketing authorisation the day after he said that. Which was spot on

All the noise coming out about J&J is that the data they submitted is very good. They are going to be approved mid March at the latest.

Then there's also good chance that CureVac get approved in Q2 boosting supply further.

With those two added to the million a month already scheduled to be arriving, supply shouldn't be a problem.

I do feel a certain degree of sympathy for our government in terms of vaccine roll out. I was scrolling social media there to wish someone a happy birthday and i came across the same 'health minister announces 1 million vaccinew for April' headline thats been knocking around a few days and i went into the comments for a look 'we are a joke', ''worst in the EU' 'govt roll out too slow', the usual stuff.

Obviously it doesn't matter a jot, just the standard ill imformed crazies on social media.

The only thing I noticed differently now is people have got so tired of explaining the EU bloc purchase and supply issues they just don't bother even trying to correct these people anymore.
TBF i would have complaints in relation to our handling of covid, probably many, but it'd be a shame for a very good job done(to date let's not get carried away) in relation to the vaccine roll out to get overlooked by.

The one encourgaing sign of all the unneccessary giving by what are honestly best described as uneducated and ill informed cohort of people who will make up a nice chunk of our populatuon is that if they believe the roll out is not quick it at least assumes they want to be part of the roll out and want a vaccine.

(sometimes i think we should charge everyone a fiver for the vaccine but free if you have a medical card, social welfare, etc and uptake would be 100%)

I had a quick check there using ourworldindata. Taking the 19th as a baseline (because that's the latest data set for the HSE there), we were, at that point, 19th in the world in for vaccination rates and 11th in the world for percentage totally vaccinated.

What time each day are the vaccine numbers released? And where is the best place to find this info.

I know swabs are generally around 15.00 and cases generally around 18.00 but no idea on vaccines.

This seems to be updated quicker than the app/hub. Usually updates between 10 and 12 I think, doesn't seem to be a set time

These lads are great, if you're on twitter just set up notifications. Vaccines 11-12, swabs 3-4, cases 5-6

Yes, it's shocking the amount of people on social media who don't know about the EU's involvement. Hard to tell sometimes between the people who are genuinely ignorant of the EU procurement programme and the Sinn Fein activists (who are very much aware but trying to shape a narrative of government incompetence.)

So far just a dull ache in whole arm inc hand and a headache. Did get the chills an hour after it but they disappeared after 2 hours. I went during work so was still able to do another 5 hours and finish my shift after getting it despite the above and in work again early tomorrow. Should be fine.

Just an update on this to say how wrong I was by saying "should be fine".

Just before midnight on the day I got a fever and body started shivering had a sleepless night. Worst headache of my life and very bad pain in both legs. Its the worst I have ever been and I have been a through a few medical issues in the past.

A number of my colleagues got the same symptoms. Took a few neurofen tablets and now feeling much better.

Also just on the observation period, you do have to wait 15 mins atleast even with the AstraZeneca vaccine. It can be longer period if you have particular allergies etc.

Even if they did 192000 or thereabouts they’d still vaccinate nearly 23million with a first dose

Not quite, it's not just the finish line that matters here.

The UK are going to have an issue soon when they have to start giving second doses, I really can't see them jabbing 4 million a week. I would like to be wrong though.

There's not a hope of any EU country completing vaccination of adults before the UK, too far behind at this point.

They will hit supply problems and it will be a bit slower for them once they hit the start of April and a lot of their supply will be for second doses, but they too will benefit from Pfizer's increased production, they have similar amounts of J & J on order (and concluded a deal earlier than the EU), they have a Novovax deal signed long ago (still not finalised by the EU...) and they start getting Moderna in April.

If the UK hit their target of every adult jabbed by July 31st then they will be finished the second dose of az by October 31st, it very much depends on your definition of "finished" but they're not going to be that far ahead.

One of the amazing things with the vaccines has been the virtually non existent reports of severe reactions or allergic reactions?

Have there been any reports of these? Certainly would increase confidence for nervous folk

Thus far, only the contract with the German company Curevac has been made public. It says that the producer will make "reasonable best efforts" to deliver the agreed upon number of doses within the negotiated time frame. Pascal Soriot, the head of AstraZeneca, is now claiming the same thing. The Curevac contract also says that the producer must inform purchasers as quickly as possible of possible delays, explain the causes for those delays and present a revised timeline for delivery. That, though, is all.
