I was just speaking to the receptionist at my GP today, I was enquiring about vaccination as my sister received her first jab last Saturday in Bandon, Cork, I'm Salthill based in Galway, same condition as my sister and the receptionist asked me my age, I'm 56, she then told me the GP is only vaccinating the over 70s at the practise, so apparently I have to get in touch with the vaccination centre at Ballybrit. Haven't received any letters or emails from medical staff yet anyways, I presume I'll be notified at some point by post or is the onus on me to contact the vaccination centre. There seems to be a mess of information out there and it can be confusing.

Might as well try to give them a call and ask or else contact the HSE live helpline.

Just a question on the reports yesterday about the 90% reduction in transmission of COVID with the Pfizer vaccine.
Has there been anything relating to the other vaccines (AZ, J&J etc) and their effect on transmission ? Is it realistic to think they might be similar, worse, better (hard to imagine better !) etc.
Just wondering if the transmission impact is a result of the nature of the vaccine used, or a feature of the makeup of virus itself ?

If you’re diabetic and attend hospital you were moved to group 4. They just did a select all copy and paste to the HSE. HSE also dropped the HBA1C requirement. I personally know 3 hospitals that did this.

That's the problem though. I haven't attended the hospital clinic since the end of 2017 and they said they were transferring me to the GP for diabetic care but when I asked the GP about this last week they hadn't a clue!

So now I'm kinda stuck between them!

All told probably about 40,000 (32k travellers in 2016, 2.5K Roma). Makes sense to use J&J with no need to chase people for 2nd shots.

    Ohh absolutely, couldn't agree more.

MicheMartin has told the D that a national portal for people to register for a vaccine is set to be up and running by the third week in April.

Hopefully not the subject of a data breach shortly thereafter.

Good idea though, I hope they do it justice.

80% by June? Must be planning to get on to children pretty quickly.

Does anyone know how many vaccines we are scheduled to administer next week or if this has been disclosed?

If they know they'll tell us but might be the weekend. We are supposed to get a big AZ delivery.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-eu-vaccines-idUSKBN2BN1LT

According to the above article the EU expect delivery from AZ today, bringing their total to the EU for Q1 to 29.8Million.

So if Ireland's share of that is 327,800 (1.1% of EU supplies), and according to https://www.hse.ie/eng/services/news/newsfeatures/covid19-updates/vaccination-programme-dashboard-as-of-28-march-2021.pdf we have used 169,419 up to and including Sunday 28th March.

If we guess at Monday-Wednesday usage of AZ to be around 25k.
And we guess we have 30K current in stock not administered,.

    The means today's shipment due is 327,800 - 169,419 - 25,000 - 30,000 = 103,381

which tallies with the figure of 100k we were told was expected this week.

Well, I've posted in here a couple of times about my 73 and 74 year old parents and vaccines.

Apparently their age group started yesterday on the 29th. So I got them to ring the GP this afternoon to inquire.

They've been told their GP practice is getting no vaccines AT ALL for the next two weeks. Their names are on the list, but not at the top thats for sure.

They won't have their first dose by the middle of April. Thats a bit of a disgrace really. One of them is scared to all hell as she only ever watches RTE and barely leaves the house. Refuses to allow my dad into the shops, I have to do it all (I was done as a HCW in January).

She also has Parkinsons but isn't into the hospital system to be put into Category 4 yet, so the waiting game will continue with more and more fear/panic/hysteria. Ugh.

Update: Talking to a family friend who uses the same GP practice, he is 77 and hasn't had his first dose yet, he's also been told two weeks before there is any delivery to the practice at all.

So my 73 and 74 year old parents, at a wild guess, will now be at the end of April, despite all the promises about "first dose before mid April". This is a big GPs practice by the way, nothing out of the ordinary.

Assuming approval for children is forthcoming, they are expecting to begin vaccinating kids from September on. This would make sense since they can just do it through the schools.

I hear there on the news that Malta are opening upto tourists from June 1st but the tourists must have had both jabs.

Puts the AstraZeneca vaccine at a disadvantage there, someone getting the Pfizer vaccine can head there 9 weeks before someone getting AstraZeneca.

I think teachers often overestimate the public support they'll get.

As a younger teacher, the vast majority of us don't care that the vaccine groups have changed. Most of the people who are having their opinions heard now would rather be at home than in school. Not just this year, but any year before. I know this because I have worked with a few.

My mothers GP gets them every two weeks. She just scrapped in for this Friday - 73. Her sister in law, 71, did not get the call even though she has the same GP

Quite a few Pfizer 2nd doses to do so there may be a delay. With increased Pfizer supplies it could faster than you think.

This penny is going to drop soon. The government have also said that 2 'fully vaccinated' people can meet up 2 weeks after their second dose. That's 14 weeks after somebody gets their first AZ dose...

As someone mentioned further up the thread, some people might see this as a specific reason to take the J & J vaccine as soon as it becomes available (but you are still supposed to give it two or three weeks or so before the effects start to work on you).

Its a lottery really about who gets the lucky 1 shot J&J vaccine

No, it's not, it will almost certainly be a set group as decided upon by the hse.

Apologies if this has been posted already but good news from Pfizer on kids age 12+.

    https://www.euronews.com/2021/03/31/pfizer-biontech-says-their-vaccine-had-100-efficacy-in-trial-of-children-aged-12-15

Any idea on when the EMA will approve for aged 12+?
