Under the vaccine role out plan until today.....

Today the government completely through this out the window without giving a reason. That's why the state broadcaster is not highlighting it.
The government threw the age group least likely to vote for them to the back of the queue today without an eyelid being batted.

Realistically it's the difference between being vaccinated the first week in June and the last week in June.

Anecdotally like your story, i read about 3 people who tested positive after vaccination ( only mild symptoms) but their close contacts or anyone else never caught the virus off them.

Interesting, just wondering will there be a means of recalibrating the pcr test to identify if there is presence of viral load sufficient to transmit the virus.

This is also stunning they are at about 60% 1 dose, 56% 2 doses and just look at that R0 number.

Love to see can they back calculate to see at what %tage of their population vaccinated got their R0 below 1.

One caveat though, fully open society means proper mass gatherings still a big hurdle left.

We need and i mean need no more **** ups with Vaccines and Vaccines supply

then again we have the HSE running it here and they will find a way to **** it up

    System crashing
    a fridge been turned off
someone ****ing up in the shipping/ordering department

The other caveat is I believe they have a two tier "vaccinated and non-vaccinated" society. You need a green pass to go to pubs and restaurants and stuff. More likely we'll have vaccinated people mixing with unvaccinated people who will probably need more like 80% immunized to see similar results.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Israel hit "zero covid" using nothing but vaccines. Should hopefully shut a few up.

    Quite a mean spirited post.
HSE have no control over supply.
The rolllout has in the main been very successful to date. Every major program always has a few bumps along the way. As we scale up, there will be more. No one gets everything right all of the time. Shipping is outsourced and operated under GMP. If I was to consider a risk, I’d agree the IT system that hasn’t been launched yet is likely going to have a few hiccups. But let’s see what happens first before we condemn it from the comfort of our armchairs.

Will we be jabbing with the 100,000 Halix doses next week? Seems to be a wall of silence since the EMA approved the plant. They were already filled and finished in Italy... wonder what the hold up is.

How does the system crashing affect jabs in arms? First I've heard of it as well, any more details?

The fridge being turned off was a **** up, but affected less than 100 out of 800k vaccines.

I don't even know what that third bit means.

You really are a negative person, and I think you're secretly enjoying the delay, because it gives you something to be miserable about.

From a GP I follow on Instagram

Wondering from this...are GPs being asked to vaccinate remaining cohort 4 or compile lists for referral?

At least there is something in terms of communication!

    Is anyone else absolutely buzzing.
CDC saying vaccinated people stop transmission is literally going to sicken many of the brainwashed Cult members. But most importantly, it means this is over. Its only a matter of time! I could cry with so many different emotions

This has been the best day in the longest time. The news just keeps getting better and better and better. The text with my vaccine booking for VHRisk was just the icing on the cake. It finally feels like the end is coming and I can just **** off to the west of ireland for the weekend with the kids when I feel like instead of stressing that they’ll bring it home from school and missing my parents like crazy!

I understand how people are upset with restrictions and reopening and what not, I am to.

But the numbers being vaccinated, the efficiency, New plants, new vaccines, and yes the much fabled "ramp up"......... ****ing love it.

Has anyone here been invited to attend to get the vaccine via text and had to reschedule?

The text says to reply saying reschedule but I haven't received any response, is this normal?

How long til you can get a reschedule?

    Thanks!

AZ vaccine reports a bit worrying.

But yeah agree. Reasons to be hopeful.

I think this was the first time since all of this kicked off that we were told people could meet inside without distancing or masks. That light is getting closer.

Never mind the light getting closer, I want the pints getting closer and I want them all now:) I’m drooling over here.

Chatting to a friend in the US.

He was out doing his shopping in a supermarket with a pharmacy attached. The pharmacist was rounding up shoppers to take spare doses of the Pfizer vaccine.

    Apparently it happens every day.

So he got his first dose and an appointment in 3 weeks for the second.

Quick reminder that this isn't over until it's over in the developing world too. Otherwise we'll just keep getting new variants again and again.

I know, we must be very mindful not to get in the way of any misery of this going on for as long as possible. :pac:

Hopefully the archaic recruitment of vaccinators doesn't slow anything up. Doctors requiring Leaving Cert results on their application forms, and really long forms at that according to people who have signed up. This is not being 'negative' by the way for those who only want pre-emptive joyous news, just a concern and hope it's done right.

Definitely : the forecasts announced today for Irish vaccine numbers are much higher and happening quicker than anyone had possibly anticipated, even a couple of weeks ago. Also, the fact that Irish take up is extremely high is most encouraging.

Numerous studies suggest the vaccines work against all the variants so I wouldn't be overly concerned

The idea that potential vaccinators would need to show their Leaving Cert results is at once totally insane and completely unsurprising. Why in God's name would that be relevant?

    ...
German chemical company Wacker's head Christian Hartel, whose company will produce the CureVac vaccines, told Frankfurter Rundschau, a German newspaper, that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) may approve the product before the beginning of May.

According to the company, that is much earlier than had been planned, and therefore it wants to start producing vaccines in the first half of 2021, and reach full production capacity in July.

If all goes to plan, 100 million doses of the vaccine will come off the line a year in the German company alone, Frankfurter Rundschau wrote.

The European market could also be supplied with CureVac vaccines made by the German pharmaceutical concern Bayer and Switzerland’s Novartis.

Frankfurter Rundschau praised the idea of Wacker producing the vaccine. "There are talks of serious side effects from the vaccine (AstraZeneca),” it wrote. “None of this has yet been proven. But still: a different vaccine on the market would help a lot."

Hartel went on to claim that his company could even double production to 200 million doses per year.

The EMA began an accelerated assessment of the CureVac vaccine in mid-February. However, the Tubingen-based biotechnology company responsible for developing the vaccine expects that the process will not be completed by the end of the second quarter (end of June). The assessment process has been complicated by the emergence of new virus variants.

The contract, struck between the European Commission and CureVac in November 2020, provides for the production of 225 million doses, with an option of an additional 180 million. The vaccine is based on mRNA technology, similar to the BioNTech-Pfizer and Moderna products.

I presume the PPSN is such a unique personal identifier? I think the issue is that what it is used for should have an appropriate legal basis with safeguards etc.

So, if you want to use the PPSN as the key for a database of high risk medical conditions then you are upfront about it, in terms of how the database is stored and how it is combined with other data. Then you have to get GPs etc to actually provide the data. I doubt many reasonable people would object to that.

The problem with the Public Services Card was they tried to bring it in by stealth and by essentially bullying social welfare recipients (to begin with) into accepting it.
I agree in part but you say not many reasonable people would object. Unfortunately there are a lot of unreasonable people who would.
But people object to everything. It's not an excuse to do anything other than the right thing.

It seems to me that the change to the vaccine priorities yesterday was largely (or at least partly) due to their inability to identify the high risk cohort. Yet another instance (like the arbitrary 5km travel limit) where only the crudest and bluntest of measures seem to work in this country.

It's strange how little commentary there has been on the change yesterday. They made such a song and dance about it being based exclusively on clinical risk, but now it's not. Kingston Mills (rightly) seems to be the only person questioning it.

I think there would be widespread support for a more comprehensive capturing of data that could inform and direct activities like this. But, there would have to be a proper legal framework behind it.

    Great theory except
The National Vaccination Programme is to be changed to an age-based system, once those aged 70 years and older, the vulnerable and people with underlying conditions are immunised.

    Great theory except
Risk is also based on occupation. A teacher standing in front of 30 kids is at a lot more risk than a worker working from home.

If they've dealt with that risk to date and continue to do so, what's the problem? We're all at risk from this and we follow appropriate guidelines.
