Case in point - Black Live Matters protests in Dublin. No outbreaks at all as a result.

Similarly, Dame Lane a few weeks ago. The same ignorant idiots who got all stressed about Berlin D2 made the same noise about Dame Lane. Covid fear at this stage is based on hysteria and ignorance, not actual facts.

No one is suggesting its a scam. I think he's merely stating that if you placed influenza under similar scrutiny for 8 or 9 months, you would find an awful lot of similarities between the two illnesses.

If you followed from the beginning of an influenza outbreak, scrutinised the rise of cases at all times, followed up on the after-effects of each victim etc. you would have quite a horror-show.

The WHO estimates a bad flu year can kill 650,000 globally, with 35 million cases.

It's outrage culture. It almost seems like some people want the virus to be deathly. They don't care if there has been no cluster among young people drinking outside, they aren't relieved when they find out. Their hat is firmly in the Covid is a grave threat and we will stamp our any semblance of life until it is eradicated. Bugger everyone else.

Yes herd mentality and a well controlled one.

Yes no amount of stats will change their minds. “It’s a terrifying deadly infection” and there’s no moving then off that. You’re a granny killer if you think otherwise...

Looking a bit down the road who will benefit?

It's looking more and more like NPHET and the government have lost the f**king plot. Good luck getting compliance if this crap continues.

The big thing I've found in all this is that everyone always thinks someone else is the problem. Ultimately, people will chastise the scenes in Dame Lane and then go to the boozer the next night and act in a similar, if less ostentatious way. We saw this with the beaches back in April, when you had the pontificating finger wagging sorts outraged and taking pictures, with complete dissonance to the fact they were on very same beach.

In a proper threat people will tow the Line but when its not and freedoms taking away which creates a real threat people rebel

Why not get proper checks done on where all where the outbreaks are happening?

I can see people saying **** you, Il be attending my local teams GAA match the weekend. They going to have the guards at every game?

Whatever the Government announce on gatherings at sporting events the GAA will implement without question so that won`t be allowed to happen.

When they did they ever have it? Nphet need to be brushed aside with no public remit and all communication and decisions via government who have the democratic mandate to do so.

This is a nice article on why we are where we are....

Well yes I voted for FG not that I thought they were doing a super job or anything but thought they’d be ok with the economy

The Indo has reported on the NPHET recommendations which are, to put it bluntly, ridiculous.

Asking people to avoid public transport even though schools are back next week gives me a stronger belief that schools going back is the end game and covid restrictions die soon after. Offices have been told to keep staff home until mid-September too. Clearly the plan is to get kids back, wait 14 days and if nothing happens (as it won't considering covid is zero risk to children) everything will be reopened.

In a way it gives me a sense of relief that actually the end is in sight, mid-september to early October. It has been painfully slow however.

I didn't say it was an elaborate scam. I'm saying that yellow journalism scare-stories give people a false picture of reality. If people looked at the evidence calmly and thought about it, they would realise the fact that after-effects of individual covid cases appearing in media does not make them more likely to occur than in the cases of other diseases, e.g. norovirus, where every case is not publicised.

That is one just one example of psychological amplification of this phenomenon. In the very early days the media were trying to say that young people were 'just as affected' as the old, and they brought out videos of every young affected person they could lay their hands on.

Television news media and the internet are false contexts. This week we had Gardaí launching an investigation in response to outrage over a TikTok video. We have all failed to take an objective view and chosen to live, to some extent, in a social-media influenced reality.

So why is there such a huge response to this worldwide. Why is this happening?

    From the other thread:

One Cabinet source described the new restrictions as the "most draconian in Europe".

And this is AFTER they overruled some of Nphet's recommendations!

    Very much doubt it.

The elephant in the room here are the actual GAA matches themselves.
15 players in a team huddle, 30 players wresting and bouncing off each round a field for an hour.

I hate to say it because I know the training element is vitally important for young athletes, but it doesn't fit in with the current restrictions.

What about soccer and rugby ?

Anyone else feel that we are all being slow marched back to a Phase 1 Lockdown...

    First lockdown 3 counties..
    Restrict movement for over 70's
    Restrict pub/restaurants/house parties
    Sport only behind closed doors.
Majority of workers to stay home.
    Avoid public transport.
    Increase Police Powers...

This is just the first few steps in bringing us back...

By end of September expect the 2k,5k,20k restrictions back...

The Irish provinces are due to play each other this weekend, not sure how they'll manage the new reduced limits if they've sold or assigned seating to season ticket holders.

Going after the GAA, the soft target. What the fcuk are they doing about meat plants?

It’s no coincidence a number a these stupid decisions have been made since Martin became Taoiseach.

He has been an utter disaster.
