am I going mad here or what's the story with driving lessons. They cannot practice social distancing, the geometry doesn't favor it!

I saw two cars in my area last night and neither instructor nor customer had so much as a mask.. are they taking temperatures at the beginning of the lesson or something?

    seems very odd

That is definitely not the usual practice. I live in an estate where driving instructors regularly bring the learner drivers and on any given day there would be around 10 of these lessons if not more
All the instructors and students I see are both masked up and usually have driver and passenger windows open.
This was the practice even before Monday

Where exactly is this "shunning" happening? I don't see much shunning or people being shunned except on social media and that is a heaving cesspit.

It may be a cesspit but it's the primary source of information and socialising for many, so if you're seeing shunning there, it's shunning nonetheless.

What makes you think it will be a sizeable cluster? Reports at the moment are that one person tested positive

The bookies have odds on it being greater than 1.
I'm not privy to how the calculate odds but I'd guess it's something to do with it being an infectious disease and the fact it always starts with 1?

If I could thank this post 100 times I would!!

Second building site in Dublin has been shut after what looks like it could be another sizable cluster. I've said it already, seems to be a certain culture amongst the construction sector of simply laughing at this, there is a site near me and many workers go for lunch together with zero social distancing and sit outside talking for up to an hour. Many similar stories across Dublin.

Those dirty construction workers, you seem like a lovely person yourself

I was trying to explain probability and likelihood in everyday language.
i.e chances are it's more than one.

I'm so fake outraged right now.

What are your thoughts on what's actually happening in the world as opposed to fake outraging random poster on the internet.

    We now know it's airborne.
    We now know masks work
We now know that asymptomatic spread is real.

Let me guess we'll have to live with it.
    We did great.

You said it looks like it could be a sizeable cluster. More than one is not sizeable. You have no basis for assuming it is sizeable at this stage.

Sure for all we know it could be a crane driver perched a couple of hundred foot above everyone else in his own cabin

Are the bookies taking bets on Covid?

    haha, I didn't say that.
I responded to a poster who asked how do we know it's more than one?

    I answered:
    We don't.
But we have quite a bit of information on clusters now.
The site was closed as a precaution.
The incubation period and asymptomatic spread means chances are it's more than one.
I have no information if they went to the bookies or not.

During a once in a generation global? What if NPHET took the same stance?

Maybe you need to do a bit of reflecting on that comment.

Man with serious health issues wants us all to stay at home. As I've said before, people with skin in the game.

I've no serious health issues. I've a bit of asthma.
Young and healthy, never really get sick. I was working in an office were multiple people got it whom I'd be in close contact with daily.
With any luck I was asymptomatic.

    Doesn't change the situation.

    Man who's.....
    • bank balance
    • way of life
    • status in the community affected by the pandemic
    • can't or won't read a scientific paper
    • listen to nurses and doctors.

says "go back to normal now".......nothing to do with my bank balance.

That's a man with skin in the game.
Not one who is essentially independent to either outcome.

Place I work for has taken the view that you are making yourself unavailable for work unless you can show it’s essential. I do know of someone who has been approved to go visit sick parent and will be on paid leave when they return, but others who are going abroad and have been told they wont

How will that work when, eventually, the virus is gone and they've the entire company trying to use up annual leave??

Same where I work as well. Anyone who travels abroad is taking a two weeks without pay sabbatical when they return.

Why would you tell your company your plans, especially if you were going to a green list country, if that was the case.

The peak is irrelevant. One thing that this does illustrate is the nonsense of many here who equate the UK with the US when it comes to travel into Ireland

    Sorry about that. Gotcha.

Yeah I don't know him. I just saw the figures and thought it interesting.
Italy, spain and France have large parts of their society dependent on tourism so they need to reopen.

That has consequences though. It should be noted balkans in general have an issue. More so than Western Europe (Spain is slightly dodgy at the moment).

Requirement is leave balances are below 78 hours at year end every year. Does not change because you cant go overseas

The UK's was lower because they never tested. They have over twice our deaths per capita.
