What happens when you land into Sydney and can’t pay?

If the government picks up the cheque, or part of the cheque is that a lower or higher cost than having half a million plus people on PUP? Having business going bust and not paying their VAT / revenue bills? Having kids not in school?

Lorry drivers don’t spend weeks in the sun drinking and eating out.
The work alone, eat alone for the most part.
Drive somewhere, collect something and drive back.

They get tested regularly and the ferries should be demanding negative tests before boarding in case an outbreak on board means a ferry has to stop for a deep cleaning.

    Nonsense

Lorry drivers congregate together , at loading docks at eating places etc.

    They are NOT being tested

Tourists are not the issue ( see canaries , see Ionian etc ) Greece’s Ionian had a near normal summer and few cases. ( lowest in eu )

I’m not sure you understand what community transmission means. I get the sentiment and motivation about what you’re saying, however in practice it’s not that simple.

Also how long do borders stay closed? Until we have zero covid? Obviously not, as we then need other countries to have zero covid. No doubt the EU, US and parts of Asia will achieve herd immunity once the vaccine has been rolled out. But the WHO has already said it will take years for herd immunity to kick in

A huge issue of grave concern that the WHO is repeatedly going on about is the ignoring of poorer country’s vaccine plan or lack thereof. There are many countries that aren’t in a position to rolled out a vaccine plan in the short term. So the what? Wait 5+ years with your borders closed?

It might suggested that it would be daft to suggest that. So we just quarantine or ban those countries instead. That would mean having to ban or quarantine essential travel too. And of course what if those travellers have stops in other countries and their origin country isn’t so easily identifiable?

There’s a lot of moving parts and banning travel isn’t a short term instrument. It’s long term - years. Just wait and see, NZ and Oz won’t be able to keep their borders closed indefinitely

They'll keep them closed until it is safe to open them. What is the alternative? They open them before that point and end up absolutely f*cked like us and the rest of Europe?

So if it takes years before it is safe then NZ and Oz will continue to enjoy their current setup for years, i.e. everything is open but international travel is banned - whereas we will continue to be stay in level 5 lock down for 9 or months of the year interspersed with 3 months of level 3.

If this is going to last for years then that is all the more reason to take the NZ/Oz/Taiwan/South Korea approach so we don't have to waste lives of our lives in lockdown. 5 years with borders closed is a far better proposition than 5 years with borders open but stuck in level 5 lockdown.

Driving is a pretty isolated job.
Testing taking place in the UK before departure to EU.

Testing planned for Ireland also, should have been implemented months ago, but welcome now.

If it stops anymore lockdowns and eliminates the need for PUP then work away.

If 2 weeks in a hotel room is necessary it cuts travel drastically.

    Custodial sentences for breaching it.

You sure did. Hard to believe. Those that travel don't care and are more likely to spread it. A study showed this in the UK earlier in 2020.

    No, Traveler pays $3000

What are the new quarantine fees?
Under the Public Health Act the NSW Government has made it mandatory for people to undergo quarantine for at least 14 days if they arrive in New South Wales by aircraft or from a port.

Mandatory quarantine means being housed in a government arranged hotel room for a 14-day period.

From 12.01am Saturday 18 July 2020, the NSW Government is charging international travellers (except those arriving from New Zealand from 16 October 2020) who arrive in Sydney for their hotel quarantine accommodation.
The cost of this accommodation is called “quarantine fees”.

    The fees are:

    $3,000 for one adult traveller
    $1,000 for additional adults
    $500 for additional children
    For example

a family of 2 adults and 2 children, over the age of 3, in one room would pay $5,000
a family of 2 adults and 4 children over the age of 3 would pay $6,000
The quarantine fees are charged in Australian dollars and are a fixed rate. The fees include the cost of meals and hotel accommodation.

The NSW Government will continue to pay for the costs of security, transport and logistics.

What happens when you land into Sydney and can’t pay?

    Becomes a state Debt

What will happen if I don’t pay my quarantine fees?
If you don’t pay or make arrangements to pay your fees, Revenue NSW have enforcement powers to:
    • Take money from your bank account or wages
    • Get the Sheriff to seize and sell things you own
    • Register an interest on any property you own (charge on land)
    • Each time Revenue NSW takes enforcement action they add fees to your quarantine invoice.

So don’t ignore the invoice, get help quickly if you can’t pay it.

If you have received a quarantine invoice, contact LawAccess NSW on 1300 888 529 for free legal help.

Absolute spoofer Eamon Ryan. Hes blocked every attempt to limit travel since he became minister. Rejecting nephets advice on everything, even to pre test travellers in November.

    He is a disgrace.

On the flipside Alan kelly spoke very well. Everything he said was on point.

It won’t eliminate the lockdown. We can’t emulate NZ the virus is rampant here

Given the virus is rampant here what’s the point in stopping a handful of tourists while allowing 10000 lorry drivers a week in here and thousands crossing the border

As if a plane load is a problem!!!!

    Tackle both.

All we van do is stay in a 5km lockdown till 75-70% of adults are vaccinated sometime in mid 2022

Nothing else will work against the new variant

Tourists are a complete side show largely to distract a gullible public from that harsh reality.

You could burn Dublin airport to the ground fir all the difference it would make.

But we “ won’t “ tackle it. We focus on a tiny issue instead.

At the moment opening schools is a dream.

    Opening pubs a miracle.

Zero COVID is a long way further down that road, it may be a destination we don’t reach for a few years, but it should be the ambition that’s worked towards, not the ambition of yo-yo opening and closing.
