Aren't shopping centres back open on the 15th? How come half of the shops are opened already in them? Everything is so confusing

Yeh i know . Am thinking more of a video on masks like the hand washing one . One that is played over and over and eventually might sink in .

OK. That may well happen. Of course even with such a campaign there will still be numptys who refuse to wear them because they don`t like to follow rules.

Instead of telling us we might misuse masks why are they not telling us HOW to use them . A video on the proper use and how to put them on and off repeated on TV etc would be far more beneficial than whinging that we might do it wrong

100% right. This has really annoyed me for months. Masks are so. f*cking. simple. to use. It's insane they don't trust the population on it in a way, and they 100% should have a video produced on it. The sh*t is not complicated.

Put them on at home or in the car, in front of a mirror anyway. Open them out as big as they go (surgical ones are often kinda folded in the box), loop the bands over head or ears, make sure the lower section goes under the chin, make sure the nose bar is secured tight about halfway up your nose, make sure the bands are tight enough to have the the mask flush against your cheeks.

That's it! It takes a few seconds to do it correctly and once you practice it once, it's so easy. When you take them off just make sure you've washed your hands and use both hands to remove both bands from head or ears at the same time so you take the mask straight off your face and dispose or wash. IT'S SO EASY.

The fact that people can't do that right in such massive numbers just goes to show how truly, unbelievably f*cking thick so many people are. It's painful.

9 new cases today, 2nd day in a row new cases in single digits.

    Right direction.

Given that there was a 3000 + protest on 1st of June (over 8 days ago) it can be safe to say that there doesnt seem to be a spike in infections (but this can be 100% confirmed up to 6 days from now)
9 cases in a population of 5 million. I'd honestly consider allowing all interaction except for direct physical contact which would allow restaurants, cinemas, theatres and a lot of pubs to operate as before, though not night clubs.

Where we really need to be is to be able to take risks like this, but if outbreaks occur, then we can detect them and jump on them locally.

If it comes to it, then we can reimpose restrictions hopefully only locally.

Looking forward to a break in Spain in August / September

Fair play i really hope you enjoy it. Let the lockdown crowd stay at home whinging in their back gardens picking daisies ;-) I wouldn’t mind a road trip to France in Sept provided numbers are still low.

Haven't been able to book anything yet mind you. Every project we had stopped on work for the last 3 months is starting up now so the next 2 months are looking hectic to say the least. So after covid and these projects to get closed off, a week away will be relaxing to say the least.

Hoping to head off late August/early September. Would like a few nights away here too but the price at the moment is just stupid money for a few nights.

    I certainly don't.

Yes you do. Admit it. You want to twitch your curtains and squint through your letterbox while playing World of Warcraft 24/7 with a leaning tower of pizza boxes beside you amid a fug of B/O and coffee-breath, with occasional bouts of marching the length of the landing to break in your new jackboots.

Get with the narrative, for crying out loud. :D

DR from Beaumont on Virgin tonight show saying 2nd wave is inevitable.

Nothing to back that up what so ever, its not inevitable.
Frustrating to hear some say its inevitable. Its possible but it's not a guarantee

If they were classed as essential they could reopen (or remain open throughout). Or if they had external doors they most likely reopened this week. Was in Blanchardstown a few times recently for work, very busy.

The consultant rheumatologist. Just what you need to advise on a novel viral pathogen. Not the first time she’s been on either- all out to make a profile for themselves. Nice handy seat in the Seanad would be ideal I’m sure

Waterstones is back open In Drogheda and doesn't have external doors ,but is the first shop inside the doors. There's more opening during the week. What's to stop shops from opening?

There seems to be a certain amount of group think going on in Ireland that there will be. Outside Ireland there seems to be much more diversity of opinion on the matter.

It seems there is a growing desire for Cork and Kerry to seek independence from the State. I suppose it was inevitable - obsessed with a border poll in the North and then we lose the south.

It's the same the world over. Until people feel safe and the virus is under control, you're not going to have normal behaviour, and the people who think this virus is nothing to be concerned about are a small but vocal minority. The 1m versus 2m argument is a good example of a short-sighted debate because it's going to make people feel less safe - for many restaurants and pubs it will mean double the number of empty tables. So less focus on how many tables can be packed in, and more focus on how you're going to reduce risk (whether that's with 1m or bigger spacing).

Step one - get the virus under control in the community (mostly done, but need to monitor)
Step two - implement actions in your business which give a feeling of safety
Step three - market what you're doing and hope to recover business
Step four - a vaccine or a treatment

I don’t know about salt but this post tastes of something very sour.

It's quite funny as well to see older people throw themselves onto the road to avoid walking close to me as I walk as normal on the footpath. Lemming idiots.

There are many reasons why there would be a drop in trade for shops open in phase 1.

    1) Social distancing - If you can only let a certain number of people into the shop, that quickly causes queue's. And people simply hate queuing.

    2) No Money - So many people are out of work and just don't have the money.

    3) Fear of Recession - We all know a recession is coming. People feel like the smartest thing to do is to keep their money. This lack of confidence actually contributes to recession.

    4) Lack of shops open - Not many people go out just to go to 1 shop. They hit many shops and eat lunch while out. Hopefully that will change now that more shops are open.

    5) Fear of Virus - For whatever reason, a lot of people are still afraid of the virus. I have a friend with a touch of asthma who insists he is "high risk".

With new cases in single digits this week, they'd really should demand to reopen by Monday 15th. Along with every other business.

    Maintain 1 metre social distancing.

    Get the country back working.

And, ofcourse, dont forget a bit of waffle - stay local :pac:

This is very true. But they need to issue guidelines for creches so people can start using them if needed.

I think he just said that things are being discussed. That review of the remaining phases came up on Friday last too.

You do realise that people; even with a touch of asthma can die from an asthma attack and that virus’s can trigger asthma attacks
