It's a little harsh. They stated they didn't expect cases related to community transmission. All cases identified so far are imports. I expect there will be community transmission, don't see how we can avoid it, but so far, seemingly, we have. Or at least the carriers haven't been detected yet.

It doesn't change a thing or the actual risk : all four had been in northern Italy.

It doesn't make any difference if one person or ten people who have been in Italy have the virus

It would be examples of community infection that would concern the authorities.

The more we get from people who were in Northern Italy then the more inevitable this 'community spread becomes... it's just a matter of time now.

What I want to know is when will the government bail out boards.ie with a few bob to buy a few more servers at this time of great national emergency.

    Very good point.
Are people really suggesting to repatriate the Irish on military flights (similar to the UK repatriation flights from Wuhan) and then to quarantine them ?

    Seems like a sensible approach.

4 new cases are the one family.

If it's any positive at least the whole family is now in isolation and related to travel from Italy so still no community spreading.

Hope they make a quick recovery[/quote

Nowhere has it been mentioned they are the same family. All associated with travel in same area of Italy

Half of the RTE story of the new cases is "ah sure it will be grand" bs saying we shouldnt worry and nothing needs to change.

    **** sake.

Nothing inevitable about it. The vast majority of cases in Europe relate to people who had been in Italy, 'not' to community infection.

Thats it. Government has to step in now. Flights have to be restricted. Listening back to that interview on prime time. "might be one or two cases in ireland". What a plonker!

I can't get over posters saying there's no point stopping flights to northern Italy as people will fly from Nice, Zurich, Zagreb etc. If it stopped 1 in 3 flying that's still a success.

Be interesting to see how the HSE spin this one.

    Probably still low risk

    People just panicked a bit.

We have all had time to take things onboard and get the shock out of our system.

There was a poster on here who came home from holiday ill he was taken into hospital for testing.

    People called him a troll.

He has emailed me prove that yes he is in an isolation unit being tested with other people who feel ill.

On reflection people return from holiday with bugs all the time in this climate the HSE are just being careful and giving these people tests to make sure.

People me included screamed HSE coverup.

Others said bull there is no isolation unit.

The HSE just wanted to be able to test people without media glare or a pitchforked mob.

Back to planet reality we have two confirmed cases and the HSE are testing ill people in isolation for things they normally would have went to their GP for.:)

Having said that this is more than a flu Governments are taking it seriously.:)
I think the issue people had with the poster you referenced is that fair enough he may be in isolation due to whatever illness but that isnt covid, would have been tested for that at the start. Plus it was mentioned about being able to go for a smoke.

Whatever he has I hope he gets better.

    I think he’ll pull through : https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=112721608&postcount=2195

Still active today and online now anyhow, you can PM him via the link above.

Its scary to think how bad of a situation Italy must be in with this virus .

Using some scientific modelling we can predict how Ireland will be over the next few weeks. Paddy's Day not looking too bad with 250 cases

Well as the epidemic progresses in Italy the number of cases thee rises dramatically as we've seen. Therefor the probability of someone contracting the virus in Italy tomorrow is greater than today and therefore the probability of importing increases. Disease is longer than flu WHO

"Using available preliminary data, the median time from onset to clinical recovery for mild cases is approximately 2 weeks and is 3-6 weeks for patients with severe or critical disease."

Surely a case to make Cork the capital at this point.

Do you have the link to where he said this? I remember it as well but can’t figure out when/where it was said

There'd prolly be less 503 errors if half the posts weren't people posting the same news over and over again. Like srsly, can these hit and run posters not read up a few posts.
