So we’ve got 4 new cases here imported from Italy.

Is there still anyone on here honestly thinking that restricting entry in Ireland for people who have recently been to Northern Italy isn’t a good and useful idea??

Still trying to keep it covered up as it keeps spreading.

    Ignoring it isnt working Tony.

WHO reporting that the fatality rate is likely to be waaay below that of SARS and MERS. Sars rate was 9.6%, while MERS was 34.4%. WHO reckons COVID-19 will be somewhere between 1 and 2%, with a transmission rate way lower than the common flu.

Sorry now, but it's ridiculous that a site like this could constantly crash. Fix the Bandwidth quick.

Look, I know this topic is very hot, but still.....

Those 4 new cases of Corona virus have raised the number of total confirmed cases in the UK to 91 according to the Sky News ticker....

I honestly am hunger strike angry!
We had a quite successful Eirxit back in 1922!

Who knew Wills and Kate were here for a new annexation!

Comical Ali won't even confirm it is one family, waste of time having him on TV at this stage, it's only annoying people.

Now that we have 6 confirmed with more to follow, can we finally admit that **** just got real especially as they are in different parts of the country? Will Leo and his so-called committee meet tomorrow instead of Monday and can someone who has a half a brain announce that St Patricks Day events are cancelled? Or am I just asking too much?

    All cases relate to Italy.

And what is the obsession with the one day event of St Patricks Day? If you are risk of the virus, then you are at risk tomorrow morning and on March 18th.

We need to stop folks here heading there! People won't cancel their plans until/if they can claim back on their insurance. We need a travel advisory against trips to Italy.

Do you know the cases of Corona in Europe - what's the history behind them? Are they all related to travel from Italy? Or is it community transmission?
    • end of January - First case in Germany - linked to China
    • 13 February in Valencia - First known death in Europe - diagnosed only yesterday - links unknown
    • 13 February in France - a patient start showing the first symptoms - diagnosed only on 25 February - after 6 days in hospital - no known links to China
    • 20 February in Italy - first patient is diagnosed there - after 1.5 days in hospital - no known links to China

All cases of Irish people who would have got home one way or the other! Wonder have they had the sense to be self isolating.

The other way to put it is that transmission rate is higher than SARS and MERS and fatality rate is higher than common flue.

Same data can be presented in more or less scary ways :-)

Large crowds gathering together maybe.... Risk of spreading increases

We have a tiny number of cases confirmed and this was to be expected, it’s not the end of the world.
A tiny number of cases is how it starts. Just take a look at Iceland.

It's going to be awful for him. He'll be remembered as the man who cautioned us to react calmly when we should actually have been aggressively protecting our borders and isolating ourselves to contain this.

It's like they want this to be catastrophic.

How can they be confident that they can contain this virus while they’re still letting flights in and out for stupid reasons like ski trips and student exchange? A stop needs to be put to it all
