    No. Nobody suggested that once.

Well then how should they get home with everyone proposing cancelling all the flights to Northern Italy?

And what about all the Irish currently skiing in Italy, or visiting there for work or to see family? Do we just lock out our own citizens for the next 6 months? Many could have been there two weeks before the outbreak really took hold.

Keep in mind the two cases we have in Ireland are Irish people who've brought it home with them, not Italians here on holidays. Are you saying we should just close the borders and keep Irish people out, friends and family?

Black and white thinking yeah? Logical solution get them back and in quarantine for prescribed period if necessary. It's not rocket science and will stop more eejits flying out and returning with it

Be interesting to see how the HSE spin this one.

'We don't expect anymore cases'....until there are more cases!

4 new cases are the one family.

If it's any positive at least the whole family is now in isolation and related to travel from Italy so still no community spreading.

Hope they make a quick recovery

Feck, that's pretty nasty for that family. I hope they all get better soon.

It is completely possible to have border checks / controls and it occurs regularly in Europe due to migrant crisis mainly.
People get pulled off the bus going from Dublin to Holyhead despite the common travel area. I wonder how many borders people have actually crossed.

It's not all Ryanair and lollipops out in mainland Europe.

"A Schengen state is permitted to reinstate border controls with another Schengen country for a short period where there is a serious threat to that state's "public policy or internal security" or when the "control of an external border is no longer ensured due to exceptional circumstances"

Are there direct flights from Italy to Shannon or did they travel to Cork or Dublin

Be nice to be told at least some details other than a point on a compass

When they state 'same area' in Italy, are they referring to the now known hot spots, or somewhere else?

If they are just back from Rome, surely there's a bigger problem.

How? And not infect more people on a flight?

Midlands is the safest part of Ireland, the south will be the next domino to fall

I (personally) think the level of testing in this country is at 'head in the sand' levels.

UK/NHS seem to have their act together better (in my opinion).

Maybe my opinion is wrong/misplaced and possibly due to what I consider condescending sounding talk from the HSE....the likes of 'we don't expect anymore cases'!
The NHS offer testing in 8 laboratories around the UK.

They have more staff, more facilities, more kits.

Our testing can only be performed in 1 laboratory.

So yes, i think your opinion is misplaced.

    https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/coronavirus-four-cases-confirmed-in-family-from-west-of-ireland-1.4192843

Ireland’s first cluster of coronavirus cases has been confirmed, after a family of four tested positive for the disease on Wednesday evening.

Is it really a cluster if it's the same family? I'd call a cluster it spreading beyond one family in the same area. But then I'm not a journalist ;)

Be interesting to see how the HSE spin this one.

It doesn't change a thing or the actual risk : all four had been in northern Italy.

It doesn't make any difference if one person or ten people who have been in Italy have the virus

It would be examples of community infection that would concern the authorities.

The group comprises two males and two females, and are in the west of the country.

And so the escalation begins. FFS time for the government /officials to take their heads out of their asses and enforce strict measures. Or are they waiting for deaths to happen before they respond properly.

    I'm a woman.

And yes, let me just lose my job and stay in my flat for months on end because other people are too stupid and too selfish to use basic common sense and follow some basic precautions.

    Love ableism.

Your measures will cause many, many more to lose their jobs. Nothing to do with ableism.

    I hope you keep well.
