I'll ask for the third time: As a person who has never driven a car and walks extensively day in and day out, what reason could I possibly have to dislike cyclists and be ambivalent towards motorists apart from genuine personal experience?

Not that you are making it up. It could be true for your journey or perhaps you're only paying attention to cyclists. Who knows for what reason. Perhaps you only notice people breaking red to green and not green to red. Perhaps your journey has a lot of junctions with lot of cycling traffic. Lots of factors.

That's another commentary suggesting it's a safety issue with no facts to back assertion up.

You said there was no factual evidence or reports to back up a posters opinion, I say there is and you produce a French YouTube link.

Do you still dispute that posters view of cyclists breaking redlights as often as he thinks they do?

Would this be a more accurate representation?

3 car parking spaces at work are designated for bike racks?

How may bikes can fit into the 3 space takes up by bike racks?

    Answer: 64

That image perfectly illustrates the situation in Dublin, loads of lanes for cars to make it easier for them to navigate and park, meanwhile only one parallel bus lane carries 9x what one normal lane full of cars does (this is the case on Inns Quay last I read).

But it doesn't because it's visually false, buses are not narrower than standard cars, unless you're trying to make out that all cars are HumVee sized, it's propaganda just like people use in all arguments to enhance a view point

And in relation to a propaganda image, how?

And just out of interest how many bikes are actually there?

Do you go around measuring the proportions of cartoons?

It perfectly "illustrates" the reality that bus lanes and cycle lanes are massively more efficient than lanes that private cars are allowed to use, and yet motorists will give out about said bus and cycle lanes til the cows come home

Mind you i do find it hard to visulise 21 bikes in a parking space

I note and I comment when the visual misrepresentation is used as a propaganda tool, or would you have been on the anti german side after WW1

I wasn't disputing that cyclists break red lights or frequently. I also said one (unlikely considering the stats) possibility is that he's correct, that no cars break lights just lots of cyclists.

The report in your link doesn't address the issue at all. How ever does imply a safety issue without anything to back it up. Whereas the YouTube video does talk about the safety aspect of breaking red lights.

Ireland is pretty much a joke internationally now about how backward it is not just on cycling. But on a litany of issues. Most people seem happy with that.

Actually when I can, I swerve to avoid dogs, they can easily dent a wing or crack a headlight but then this is AH and I suppose people post all sorts of views.

It didn't mention cars... or pedestrians. His observations were about cars AND cyclists...and pedestrians. And peak time also.

    Keep digging though...

So when you feel like it you don't basically.

But I'm impressed so many dogs have learnt to cycle.

Why do they never ...adhere to road signs/traffic lights?

And what happens when that cyclist who is bigger, meaner and nastier than you dismounts and approaches you when you're stuck in your car at a red light?.

    Do you fertilize your pants?.

Tail between the legs and run (drive) away fast.

Intimating unprotected people whilst encased in 2 tonnes of metal and using your vehicle to make a speedy getaway if it looks like someone who would kick his arse. You really can't get more manly than that.

Not really, seeing as a bus would be around 2.5 meters in width and the majority of cars under 2.0 meters, again with the misrepresentation by you running an anti car/public transport agenda

    Lol. Length is the issue.

You're right actually, it's not representative as it leaves out the two lanes of parking bays, one on either side, public space given over to storage of private property for solely for car owners, often at no or low cost.

Don't worry .... I'll slow down and pass you with plenty of space..... no need for you to be so aggressive.

Pity I'm not afforded the same courtesy by some motorits.

Where are all these footpath cyclists? Ive commuted on a roadbike for 8 years now and I literally never see it apart from the odd kid on a little BMX or something like that, the footpaths in Dublin are even more pathetic than the cycle lanes nevermind the 10,000 signposts plonked everywhere these days, why would an adult cycle on them? It never happens yet the same few dullards that haunt these threads never shut up about it.

Wow, so since my last comment, there was been some serious evidence of the agendas people have. You still have the "All cyclists are dicks" and all the "All motorists are dicks" people here.

I always hear people complaining about this in Dublin mainly, and as a motorist I hate driving in Dublin, simply because EVERY road user up there is a dick. Motorists, public transport, cyclists, pedestrians, every one of them is a dick because they all think they're the only one on the road.

Was that a sweeping statement? Yes. Just like plenty of others on here. Andrew, you obviously have a serious issue with motorists, I'd imagine from being a cyclist/pedestrian? You're blaming every single motorist for your woes, and throwing out facts about deaths involving cars. Not every driver is the same, just like not every cyclist is the same. You expect people to take your point of view on board, but at the same time blame every motorist, so how can they take your point if you're blaming them?

I'm driving 12 years, and not so much as a tip in that time. I don't speed, I stop at lights, including the amber as long as it's safe to do so. I give cyclists a wide berth. So please stop blaming all motorists, when the issue seems to be with Dublin motorists, as I don't hear any other city being mentioned here. And we all know Dublin is a sh!thole, so that's most likely why most people don't agree with you.

At the same time, the people blaming every cyclist for the actions of some are just as bad. I will agree that those 2 photos are deliberately anti-motorist and made in such a way to give a false representation and push the blame further on motorists, but I also get the point. But again, we're blaming everyone for the actions of a few. I shout at cars more often than cyclists, and I usually only shout at a cyclist (internally I should add, no point starting a confrontation) if I'm walking and they're cycling on the path.

but back to my main point, and using that French video as an example, I still don't think ANY road user should be allowed to break lights full stop. In that French video, you can see pedestrians about to cross and had to stop to let the cyclist past. That's wrong, pedestrians have, and should have, right of way at red lights when crossing the road. It's easier to see a car about to break the lights, not as easy to see a cyclist, especially in traffic.

There's a fúck wad here in Drogheda on one of these yokes and he treats the footpaths as bmx course, on his "cycle" to the train station each morning, these can do 50 mp/h serious damage done when and I mean when he hits someone.

Considering my home house is beside the train station, please report him to the Guards.

Give them the time he usually goes to the station.
