It won't be all mild but not a great period coming up for winter cold fans.

No signal to latch on to at the moment.

At least it's a nice proper frost! By 7pm when the cars are frozen solid after a glorious blue sky day, it's always enjoyable going for a walk!

Sure it was late last year when the white stuff made its visit ye might be happy yet.

Hiked Mount Leinster today, not as tough as Lug but enjoyable and some nice drifts.

A few patches of frost and ice were intact all day here in Dublin 5.

The ground is quite cold now after several cold nights, if we could continue this for another few days and get a good dumping of snow on top of it, the snow would hang around for quite a while afterwards.

The roads here in Donegal are lethal this evening with black ice and freezing rain,I am enjoying this mini freeze these past few days, the small snow showers that have fallen on most days have lied with no big melt. It certainly beats last Marchs Cold, where we got zero snow, and the frosts were rubbish too because it was so dry.

We didn't do too badly here during the late Feb/March spell, but many others, as is nearly always the case, did miss out, just as they did during this more recent spell, a spell that was never going to be as epic as a true northerly, but enough to bring some snow lovers what they wanted to see.

Recent map from the Norwegian Met Office showing the final mean temperatures for January 2019 in Svalbard compared to the average:

    DyYgoHVWkAA5gBa.jpg

Up to 4.0 Deg. C or more above normal. Tells you just a little something about the increasingly desperate state of the climate situation up there at the moment.

To be honest, most of the south/south west miss out on most of the snow events that occur in this country, the east often gets the very best of easterlies (West gets minor accumulations) and the West/North West always gets some sort of snow accumulation, whereas the south/south west always miss out, so for that area to get the best dumping of snow 11 months ago is not something I feel sorry for!

Meath cousins jealous of Wicklow cousins. Great photos coming from them of their own wintery scenes in the hills ⛄

been a short walk , first since the bitter cold started. Utterly silent with the deep quietude that is far more than just the absence of sound.

Mountains emerging slowly still whitened. Bitter cold but bearable for a while, and seems to be getting darker again?

Ocean flat shiny reflective calm..LOVE this place!

Just back from tobogganing up by Cruagh wood, brilliant fun. That's my snow fix gotten for the year :) Snowman made, snowball fights, kids (including a big one!) had a blast, happy out.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

Magical day on Croagh Patrick yesterday. Thanks for Sryanbruen for helping me upload the pictures.

Damn it doesn't seem to be working.

You've given the link to the page of the photo. Make sure you open each photo in a new tab and take that URL.

When I use the photo link in a new tab, it doesn't seem to show. Maybe they are too large in size. I have to use the link start "i." to see anything...

Is this on mobile or PC? Mobile sometimes acts a little weird. I never have problems on PC though.

And yeah, it's advised to reduce your pics' size on here so posters don't have to scroll down through unnecessarily. I use http://picresize.com/ all the time to reduce the size of my pics and it works like a charm always. I use the 75% smaller function every time.

Its on the PC, I will try and reduce the size later. Direct links there for now.
    Thanks for your patience!

Nice pics by the way, love the one taken at the top. Reminds me a lot of this one from January 2010:

I came across this yesterday.. It was taken several years ago when everyone here was yearning for snow and I drove the Beara peninsula trying to find some for you!

So any chance of another beast from the east hitting Dublin soon wouldn’t mind a couple of days of again :)

at the moment that is looking extremely unlikely. The Atlantic is back at full throttle (although it never really left us in the first place), and will dig deep into much of the continent over the next week or two.

The far east of Europe and south-east into Greece look to be turning cold again into February and that is never a good sign for us.

The -5.1c in Athenry seemed to be the lowest temp from this wee spell, at least with regards the reporting stations.
Gurteen managed -4.9c while Mullingar bottomed out at -4.8c.

Dublin Airport recorded -5.8c on 31st January.

Can definitely make out the mildness of the Winter with only two very notable down spikes, October 30th and January 31st.

A bit abstract but this is a close up on a bucket of water that had frozen. When turned over it was like a scale model of Superman’s house. Delicate tentacles of ice like small roots. My 8 year old was awestruck!

Yup. Don't trust Dublin airport for winter temps and Shannon for summer temps!
