Well it's been such a fast 18/20 weeks although it feels like forever ago that the decision was made to try this marathon lark!! It's been great being able to share all the trials and tribulations along the way both on here and on Strava! Thanks to the 3 mentors for all of their patience having to repeat repeat repeat some advice and to all of you for being such a good bunch!!

Everything is done, packed, ready to go!! Just remember the medal is for all the training through holidays, sickness, weeks when it just felt too much!!

Tomorrow is our lap of honour :) Will try and find you for pints at some point although you'll all be well finished before me :D

It feels unreal to be at this stage finally, the night before! Thank you so much to our amazing mentors ariana, skyblue and KellyGirl for all the advice, encouragement and support along the way! I hope you all have great races yourselves tomorrow and am looking forward to meeting you for a celebratory pint after :D

This thread has been amazing. It would have been such a different (more boring!) experience training for a marathon without it. Good luck to everyone tomorrow! Hope to meet loads of you then, when we'll have just run a freakin marathon!!! Here goes...

Keeping getting cloudflare errors when trying to post this. One last try, best of luck to everyone tomorrow, looking forward to getting to the start line....not sure about the rest though.

And a big thanks to the mentors for all tips and advise / morale boosts.

Sleep? I tell you today has been pretty long and boring. Does have a hint if that Christmas Eve feel to it though. Going through the motions, doing last minute checks and hoping that every meal today settles as it should!

Massive thanks to everyone here for all your stories and knowledge over the last while. I would def be turning up very under prepared if I hadn't come across this thread all those months ago.

Best to luck to everyone one of ye. I've no doubt we will all fly it.

Just to firm up arrangements for anyone interested in catching up beforehand tomorrow:

How does opposite the Shelbourne sound? Say around 8, 8:15?

I'll be the guy in the asics shoes.

I think that's a point that shouldn't be missed - this thread has been brilliant for the fact that when I had a crappy run, I realised that others had the same, which gave great motivation.
It has also been great for everything from laughs to tears and everything in between - sorry to those who didn't make the start line, and Themadhouse you will certainly be in my thoughts tomorrow.
Best wishes all - final bowl of pasta tonight and then hopefully some shut eye.
See you on the starting line.

Home after a course recce - pinpointing the exact meeting points for my OH and friend in Milltown & Foster’s Ave. Snacks distributed. Bag packed. Gear arranged ready to put on. Looking forward to dinner and sleep. Well, a bit of sleep anyway.

Nothing left except to thank all ariana`, Kellygirl & skyblue and all of other generous posters for their time, advice, energy, thoughtfulness and invaluable tips and most especially your patience as you all responded to incessant questions on nutrition, pace, waves etc. all the while preparing for your race and goals.

    Yis are legends

I’ve followed the novices threads for a few years, following the journeys, both envious and relieved not to be involved in equal measure. It was so much more fun and painful to be part of it and, although I’m terrified, I feel am better prepared than most.

Regardless of the outcome tomorrow, we are all winners for coming this far.

Looking forward to putting some more faces to usernames, before & after.

We’ll be at The Shelbourne - well across the road at 8am or so (last year’s grads).

    See some of ye then.

Have a great day, guys and gals.
Do your best to get to 20 miles feeling fairly good, and then empty the tank.
If the planned pace feels a little fast at the start then don't force it and step it back a little.
You are all in for an amazing day to remember.
    Enjoy every moment!

Thanks very very much to the 3 Mentors and all on this thread and Strava group for all the support that has got me to this point. Thank you Lazare for tipping me off about this thread in the first place, it has been invaluable for sure.
Best of luck all and hope to see you tomorrow !

This thread is one of the best things about the internet - a group of strangers coming together to share the highs and lows of marathon training, all the while being given advice by those who’ve gone before.

The mentors have done a really really gone over and above and done a fantastic job. No question was too stupid and so much excellent advice was given here and on Strava. They allowed me be apart of the group, even though I wasn’t training for DCM. ariana, Kellygirl and Skyblue, thanks so much for everything.

To the 2018 Novices, hurry up and get done, so we can get the grads thread started have an absolutely amazing time tomorrow. Don’t forget to soak it all in. You’re amongst the best prepared and I hope you all have the runs you deserve.

Hey everyone. Looking for last minute advice on long or short sleeve top tomorrow. I was out today and felt quite cold. Normally I'd wear 2 layers in cold like that on shorter runs, but not sure for the marathon distance. Last year it got quite warm but that was short sleeve and it was perfect. Just not sure whether to do short or long sleeve. Gut is saying long but everything I read says short.

You guys were all outside today I'm sure. What do you reckon? It's bloody cold and will we have enough warmth once you get going in short sleeve? I haven't ran this distance in this temperature.

Thanks and good luck to all tomorrow. It feels like Christmas Eve as a kid! :)

I'm going to put on an old long sleeve top on over my singlet and when I warm up just drop it somewhere along the route.

DJB I got a pair of girls thick tights and cut the legs off to make running sleeves. I can roll them down or easily discard them when (if!) I get too warm. You could also cut up an old running top or long sleeved thermal top once the sleeves are tight enough not to fall down.
Best of luck for tomorrow :)
