Why do ye do it,I stopped listening to that show a couple of days after it started and from reading this page it seems it hasnt improved! So I now listen to PJ & Jim and switch back to Nova for the rest of the day at 10!

I never listened to it, I already hate colm and lucy so it was a no go from the get go.

What gets me more than anything is the repeated adverts of "best bits" played throughout the rest of the shows. Its making the entire station unlistenable.

Yes, absolutely. It's very annoying. The ad, which goes something like 'What did you miss on the Colm & Lucy breakfast show?'
I missed ALL of it, for good reason, thank you very much. Plus, now the weekends aren't even safe with their new podcast. It's like their show is a virus and it's spreading throughout the station.

But there is an increase in listeners to the morning show..

Are people actually tuning in to it?

According to the last JNLR figures, their numbers were nothing to write home about. Ultimately, it remains to be seen how well the show is performing overall. Yes, they may very well attract new listeners, but the type of listener they will attract will be very well catered for already, so they'll have no real reason to remain with Nova in the long run. Such listeners may 'visit' Nova from time to time, but in the meantime they're hemorrhaging long time, loyal listeners who listened to Nova to avoid such nonsensical content. Time will tell.

Dublin City traffic report 103.2 each morning. Best play list around. Accurate traffic between decent songs. Not NOVA, but morning presenter Pam more likely to play heavy metal than NOVA anyway.

Too far out for Dublin City, I did listen to is and loved it in the evenings.
Great music, great traffic info. Good quiz on a Friday.

Losing loyal listeners and gaining new listeners is technically a win for nova. Personally I think the show is the lukiemia of radio.

According to brannigan on a Facebook post complaining about the show, the show itself was up on listeners by over 2k. Post has since been deleted

I've often wondered about the accuracy of the jnlr's. They cant keep denying theres an issue with the show just because its people on boards and facebook that dislike it. Plenty of people i know can't stand it either and have switched.

Yeah everybody I know has switched

also they did have Liam Quigley covering the breakfast show a lot too - people would have tuned in for that.

Is that taken into account in the JNLRs? if so I bet they are using that to boost their ratings.

It does but how long did he take over for in the 6 months that they rate? The boost would have to be massive. Listened to day.

Little in terms of music, they spent nearly 20 minutes discussing the tweet from the presenter of GMB about Daniel Craig's baby pouch. Something that happened 2 days ago. Followed by Lucy saying that Living with Lucy is the top programme on Virgin Media TV (It's the most watch Irish programme  on the channel, when you exclude Ireland's Got Talent).

It's a double edged sword. You win some and lose some.

I missed nothing of it. That would be like suggesting somebody missed piles. I avoided all of it deliberately.

A lot of them are "accidental listeners" ..they press scan and hear a song that their Ma used to sing and just leave it on......this is exactly the people theyre looking for...hence the "soft" playlist...and of course "Everybody loves Lucy"...

That's the only way I wind up listening to anything on nova in the morning. Channel hopping, and land on them when they have a decent tune playing. Then they start on the crap songs, or I hear a presenter, and off I go.

Sadly youre counted as a listener.......Imagine if they wer'nt there....imagine the HUGE increase in listeners if ANYONE else replaced them....mmmmm..:P

Its almost like theyre holding the station back...eh Kevin....:)

    Ah here.

Liam Quigley is a decent DJ but there's a reason he's been bouncing around from station to station for as long as I can remember.

To now say that he's suddenly so popular that he's single-handedly distorting the JNLR ratings, it's absolute lunacy.

Yep, so if you read my original post you'd realise I never said he was single handedly doing anything.

Why do you attack every post that has anything negative to say about nova? It's getting a bit tired.

The advertising on Nova has sunk to farcical levels. They're now running an ad pertaining to the breakfast show, describing Colm Hayes as the man who 'did the alarm clock thingy, with the comedian who no one remembers' (not an exact quote). Would that be the same comedian who now hosts said 'alarm clock thingy' which Nova is clearly trying to replicate? Really, slagging off former colleagues for the purpose of advertising is petty and juvenile, even for a show as juvenile as the breakfast show is. What's worse, as I pointed out, they're jeering the very thing that they themselves are trying to be.

Thats how he works....you'll notice some things that he clearly read on here popping up....the self mocking thing is pathetic, not funny demeans the station...did Courtenay get that "deoderant" yet...another embarassment...music is ok (i believe) but the 80's type humour is just as pathetic as the other pair....TG for PR/6music/8radio i say...never feel like i'm being talked to as a moron......;)

This morning was interesting... I think Hayes might be a bit of a psycho :)
Lucy was hilariously calling him a geography teacher because that's hilarious zany radio and he basically called her fat and the air went quiet :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,747 ✭✭✭✭Charlie19

I've given up on the station altogether.

Enough was enough when I started finishing off the sentences of the adverts, the likes of black Amber, Rathcoole commercials, scrap my car in Dublin..

    Far too many adverts.

I accidentally switched on Nova at the tail end of that conversation this morning (I still had Nova tuned in in the car after listening to Peter Devlin yesterday). Wasn't Hayes also waffling on about how some geography teacher was 'hot'? It's like listening to a twelve year old who has just discovered internet porn.

ad for the breakfast show in the cinema last night. No mention of music, no mention of rock, no mention of escaping pop music, the ad was to try and get people to switch over on the basis that Colm and Lucy were the hosts, So that's the plan folks, Nova has two "big names" and that's the selling point :)

Also the ad was as painful as diy root canal

There's a promo running at the moment where C asks L if she'd change sexuality for a million quid. I accidentally heard it last week and it reminded me to switch channels to avoid hearing this pair of idiots in the morning.
