Liriano is no hitting the Mariners through 5.

Edit: make that 6, only needed 5 pitches for the 6th inning.

Edit 2: Mariners finally get a hit with 1 out in the 7th.

Mariners won this in the 11th, tied it up with a 2 run homer in the 9th. Baseball is such a great sport in that no team is ever completely out of it until 3 outs in the 9th.

Apparently not so much service time as defense related and also opportunity. They have Josh Donaldson already at 3B and Vlad Jr. needs to improve this part of his game "significantly" is what I read.

Honestly he probably could have done better than Donaldson yesterday, Donaldson was lucky not to get 2 errors against him. Feels like Donaldson's value is dropping significantly this season.

Nats lose Kendrick for the year so are calling up Juan Soto who is their no. 2 prospect. He's only 19 but apparently is the real deal. He started the season in single A ball and this is his 3rd promotion of the year already!

And he goes and hits a HR off the first pitch he sees in his first start (2nd game). Not bad!!

For the love of God, apparently he's close to signing with the Mets. Why do all past it players end up at CitiField...???

(might mean the end of Jose Reyes which would be good but still....)

    Seriosuly though, WTF....???

Everyone always says these are low risks moves because you can get rid of him if it doesn't work (exactly as the Braves did). But the Mets don't work like that. They'll give him 300 at bats over the rest of the season before realising he has nothing left.

Adrian Gonzalez, Jose Reyes, Jose Bautista all on the Mets. If only it was 2012.

So the Mets are signing all of the Jays old broken down vets. Want Tulowitzki and Morales? :P

Other teams invest in youth. The Wilpons must have a thing for 30 plus players who are best it. All the while young players with some upside languish in Triple A

I'm crossing every part of my body that can be crossed that this moves works out. Not hopeful

Results of last night's game show that Bautista can get a hit once in awhile, and Reyes needs to go. 2 errors. Not hitting, speed's gone, bad fielder. Too bad there's not a replacement in AAA, I think that guy Cecchini could do at least as good a job, but he's hurt unfortunately (yes, even Mets minor league prospects are injured.)

Oh, and yet ANOTHER unimpressive outing by Zach Wheeler. Against arguably a good AAA team.

Matt Harvey v the Pirates last night: 6 innings, 1 ER.

His fielding was becoming a problem at the end of last season too. His bat is starting to come around in the last few days and he's always been a streaky hitter. He'll go on a tear soon I'd say.
The defence reps argument against Vladdy is a valid one but its gotten to the stage where he's gonna get intentionally walked and pitched around which won't really help anyone. They need to bite the bullet with service time though, you just gotta bring him up in the next few months. In May so far he has a .506 OBP with 6 HRs, 8 2Bs and 20 RBIs in his last 19 games, and has more walks than strikeouts this year again. At the plate the kid has everything

The service time deadline has already passed. It’s just the ‘Super 2’ issue now and I have no idea how that date is calculated.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭TimRiggins

Yeah the Super 2 cut off varies year to year, but they could just leave him down until September and not waste a year in which the Jays are probably not going to make the playoffs and possibly big sellers around the time of the deadline if their not in contention to challenge for a second WC spot which is looking a strech.

Hope he doesn't turn to be a bust. Crazy amount of hype.

Doesn’t bringing him up in September still count as service time though? I presume it does.

If it does, unless they leave it till very late in the month, a year of eligibility will be used up so there wouldn’t be any advantage in leaving it till then.

Welington Castillo of White Sox suspended 80 games for testing positive for EPO.

Angels have said that Ohtani won't pitch on Sunday, spoiling a potential Ohtani - Tanaka matchup

It'll count alright but their not gonna lose a full year out of it.

He just homered again today btw. Now batting .429.

Apparently if he's on the roster for 172 out of the 187 days of the season he loses a year of eligibility so in theory they could bring him up now and not lose a year.

On the other hand though, it means Ohtani might hit so we could get Tanaka v Ohtani facing each other that way.

Hanley Ramirez released by the Red Sox. How long before he's a Met? He's that kind of age and production.

(edit - although he has a large vesting option for 2019 so that will scare everyone off probably, especially the tight Mets).

Somehow despite all the injuries and suspensions (just last night they lose Segura and Vincent), the Mariners have somehow climbed to 12 games above .500 and within one game of the Astros. It's really unbelievable. The secret has been great pitching and timely hitting. The bullpen has been lights out and the starting pitching has been good enough (Felix's last start excepted).
