The eight ship strong fleet rises and falls on the high seas near the Nerosian Archipelago. The fleet has sailed from Ossinzir far to the south in an attempt to find any mercenary, cutthroat or even the odd honest individual willing to die for a small chance at significant coin and the right to be accepted into the upper ranks of society within the city of Zassan.

Secondary capital of the Union of Kyrtin, Zassan had fallen on hard times lately. Bandits to West from the islands raided the shores, Desert tribes to the North stole from supply trains and slaughtered their crews, crime was an ever present menace within the city and there had been assassination after assassination within the ruling classes.

However these problems paled compared to more sinister ones. Evil ones. Ancient Ones. Of which there were several. Hence the funding and construction of the great mission, "The Fleet of Heroes", to find any who could save the city.

And on one of these eight ships, "The Sandy Dawn", as the crew swab the floors above and curse the cantankerous god of the sea, we find seven unlikely heroes and soon to be companions sitting on makeshift beds within the lower deck as one of them plays the flute to fill the silence.....

Fargadras Fernshade relaxes on the corner bunk, blending into the background as he surveys the other occupants of the room.

More elves, he notes. Probably not good marks to extract coin.

The captain of the ship on the other hand.... maybe some of this rabble would help him. Although... he shouldn't get too close.

    Not after...Ellsdorei.

Tharai sits on his bunk messily scoffing the food he snagged from the galley while his pet mouse, Twitchy, gorges himself on the many crumbs scattered about.

Rhiggy Thaesael, Riggs to his contemporaries, decided to look for a quick few gold pieces. Using his Merc contacts he decided to sniff out a few GP in return for his specialist skill set.

Retula lies back on her bunk, watching a tiny samurai on her chest practise with his sword. (Ooc : minor illusion doesn't say it can't move, let me know if it can't before I try to do something important :) ) she's looking forward to visiting Neros. They are a violent people. There was sure to be something she can do there to serve her queen.

The ship lunges forward as it rides the crest of a huge wave. The group hear heavy boots march their way down the ladder to the lower deck. A topless muscular man with scimitar larger than a halfling and skin as pale as the moon descends.

"We reach Zassan within the hour, the ruling council will wish to speak to you, ensure you are presentable and polite. I am told great coin will await you, but I must also be honest and tell you near certain death awaits as well. The problems the council want you to solve haven't been kind to the city's agents that have been sent out never to return. I hope you fare better.

    Questions?"

Fargadras ears prick up (well even more than usual) at the sound of coin.

'Are you the captain? Can you tell us any more about the area than this? I am not familiar with these shores... nor am I fond of ships.'

Sarric asks, "Whats the weather like?"

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

"I am the captain indeed. We are sailing the Nerosian Archipelago, a stormy area for sure, but also a dangerous one. The people of the islands are born warriors, though we have protection should they attempt an assault.

I assume you are familiar with Zassan."

Therai ask with a mouth stuffed with food, "exactly how much coin are we talking?" while thinking to himself this could be a chance to prove myself.

I am, bolt goes in head Zassan soldier falls down and repeat until it’s time to go to the whorehouse .

Sarric addresses the speaker, "We would understand you better if you swallowed before talking."

"A lot, more than I earn in a year. Truth be told, it depends on exactly where you are sent. You will receive a fixed payment from the city upon completion, in addition to whatever you manage to steal or extract during the mission itself. The city will allow you to keep the loot. Far I think, given the risk."

'Zassan? Heard of it, never been there. Any coach lines run out of the city? Asking... for a friend.'

The captain looks in his direction curling his lip in disgust, but does not answer back.

Fargadras looks at the drow elf mentioning whorehouses. He looks very capable. Perhaps he might be up for a spot of coach....spotting before they depart Zassan.

Also the... tiefling - he thinks - may be useful too.

He smiles. A plan forming in his mind.

More people staring at Riggs stay alive
“That lovley boat ride really has mellowed me “ Riggs thinks to himself.

Upon hearing this Therai stops stuffing his face and his eyes widen at the thought of all that gold. He snaps out of it after a few seconds and resumes stuffing his face. Twitchy's had enough food and retreats to his pocket in Therai's pack.

Sarric says, "sure, we'll be out in it in an hour anyway, and we can see for ouselves, maybe we are due a surprise or two after being couped up in here."

Retula sighs dramatically. Certain death? Is there any other kind? Bloody sailors. Superstitious morons.

Fargadras sees the captain distracted by the other party members. He decides to 'check out' the rest of the ship.

He slips up the stairs, aiming to slide right past the captain and onto the upper deck.

On the upper deck, a Raven perches on the rail. Just sayin'.

Mags Roarch, half orc, watches the collection gathered below decks listening to the captain while continuing to play softly, a melody oddly matching the rhythm of the rolling ship.
He interrupts his own composition to post a rhetorical question then returns to the tune. "How much does a ships captain earn per year?"

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

"Captain!" a voice cries from above deck.

"We can see Zassan, tell them lads to prepare themselves."

    The captain turns.

"Right you heard the news. Now, no magic at the docks, that's a city rule. Too many non-magical abouts. If ye're caught, dungeons, got it?"

Fargadras nods innocently at the captain and waits for him to leave before he goes to the upper deck. He watches to see where the captain goes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,558 ✭✭✭✭Fourier

The captain heads up on deck and goes into the captain's cabin. In the heavy rain, he can make out four others on the main deck.

The Raven flutters up to some rigging for a better look.

Retula moves to the bottom of the steps, picking at her nails nonchalantly
