Imagine if he's been a plumber? Would he be good or a cowboy tradesman.

No No, means the same in Dublin.

    Only culchies say pants.

Is it? Im only a jumped up culchie.

Never heard any of my dublin work lads/friends say pants.
Heard a few english people say it though.

Trousers doesnt suit our irish accent. Sounds too posh.

Never heard anyone use "pants" for underwear in Ireland. Maybe the American speaking Irish youth of today use it along with "super" and "awesome" and "sure".

Pants doesnt mean underwear - It means trousers!

It also means naff / stupid.

"This thread is Pants" and so forth.

Panties is female underwear all right - A word I despise. "Moist Panties" Vom!!!

I'd say the Plumbing firm might have been used a 'front' for other activities.

I think the word in Ireland is 'jocks'.

Pants were always trousers where I came from.

Same here. Except if it was one pair of trousers it was "a pants". I've also heard "pantses" in cases where more than one pair were being referred to....

Yes, deadly serious. Anyone driving a newer type car on clear motorway could easily being doing that speed and not even realise it.

I think people get confused between miles and kms and get all upset.

I can state with confidence that neither my dad or husband has ever driven at that speed. Hubs - max 140kmph on a motorway, dad - much less.

I'm just going to start reading threads backwards from now on. And look forward to them gradually begin to make sense...

What about short pantses? I'd have a few for me holidays. Couldn't wait to get into 'longers' when I was a gossan.

This thread will never make sense.

I'm no fan of Conor McGregor, but the vitriol here is unreal.

    Every McGregor thread ever...

    "He's a bit of a d1ck isn't he"
    "but he's got MONEY!"
    "d1ck"
    "MONEY"
    ad nauseam

It's off-topic, but IMO monetary sanctions should be proportionate to earnings. Otherwise it's not the "same" punishment for everyone.

That is, let's say €400 is the typical fine for someone who has average earnings of €40k

For someone who earns €20k, that's a much harsher fine; more than a week's wages.

For someone who earned €140m, it's a drop in the ocean. A penny sweet.

If fines were to be fair, they should be proportionate. €1.4m in the case of McGregor.

Where's the disincentive for McGregor to slow down when he knows it'll cost him next to nothing?

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/7939058/Swedish-motorist-facing-worlds-biggest-speeding-fine.html
In Switzerland speeding fines are worked out using a formula based on the income of the motorists and the severity of the speed. According to prosecutors he is now facing the highest possible penalty of 300 days of fines at £2,166 a day – a total of £650,000.

Underpants - pants - ah yer after ****ting your pants.

Common long before the apparent American speaking Irish youth of today.

However I would certainly say the use of pants for trousers is an Americanism.

If I was so athletic, rich and famous, I’d bring multiple large people with me down to pub to prevent this type of interaction, both them getting at me and me getting at them. It would be quite easy to kill some drunk randomer.

A few more violations commuted today at the courthouse. Illegal parking. Clamping the car was mentioned.
    No seat belt when leaving.
Probably breaking the local speed limit when the vehicles left the courthouse.

    McGregor doesn't need a seatbelt..

Growing up must have been hard with no underwear.

The scumbag goes to a fight in a three piece suit and a court appearance in a tracksuit! That's what scumbags do to show the court that they don't give a **** about their judgments. Very telling in my opinion. McGregor is the kind of utterly horrible individual that I spent my youth in Tallaght trying to avoid. All the money in the world won't change that.
