No dont give up yet, usb's are a bugger. Try another usb slot and the other one, if they fail. Your next step is to try to flash with a different image and the best one is openatv.

go here, its the same principle and the other step is to use a diferent usb make, the best I have found is cruzer.

    http://images.mynonpublic.com/openatv/nightly/

be patient all is not lost.

Yes never give up as got cruzer and integral 8gb usb sticks and can see stick flashing as having action in progress.

Are ye talking Sandisk Cruzer blade usb? Good irish source?
My 4GB is a verbatim, the smallest Kingston I have is 32GB.
So many options with all these different images :-(

I would format the usb stick again and download a fresh copy of the image in case its faulty.

openvix flashing guide for the F1

Did that. Note if you open the zip it contains the folder formuler1 but if you extract the zip to desktop it unzips 4 files: imageversion, kernel.bin, noforce, rootfs.bin. This time I copied the 4 files to the usb. The pdf instructions could be clearer on that front.

Anyway, I don't think it matters as on power up of the box the screen just says forumuler regardless :-( Is my box dead now? What a disaster. I was watching channels fine the other day.

No it should be flashable, when you extract the files can you extract them direct to usb ie dont extract and then copy over individually. How techie are you? for now try each usb port especially one in front, all we are trying to do is get the correct sequence and get the usb recognised. you can try as many usb sticks as you have in the hope one hits the mark.

have you tried the openatv image? files are corrupt on box so its getting round that is the key.

where are u roughly? im in clare

i get all sticks from mymemory, i just checked the one i used and its 32gb but its ace

    look here

@swoofer I'm teckie though not a linux guru. I am in the midlands, I appreciate you checking. Thanks for link, I just ordered one. I did not realise the F1 had a front USB, I will try that, though I likely need to wait for the new usb to arrive next week.

That said should the USB have the 4 files or the formuler1 directory? I guess the later as that will be the case if extracted straight to usb. I have not tried the openatv image but currently the F1 is not reading the stick it's just stuck saying Formuler....I know you are aying otherwise though. Hopefully the new usb will be the silver bullet, I am not holding my breath though :-(

when i unzip i use winrar and i extract to the usb so no doubt its done correctly and yes there will be a formuler 1 directory.

you should try the openatv and the front usb. I dont have that box but do have a lot of others, I dont like VIX?? I wonder why!

Do you know how to FTP into box and delete files etc?

The other thing you can try is to go back to original software but not yet.

What you could try is this, get ready to flash as normal, then hold down power button and switch on at back and wait. if you get message release power button.

Have you only one box ie no tv??

The SanDisk Cruzer blade 32GB arrived via ParcelMotel today.

    1. I formatted it to Fat32 via the USB storage disk format tool
    2. I extracted the openvix-5.3.013.release-formuler1_usb.zip to the root of the USB drive, creating the expected 4 files
    3. I plugged into the back of the formuler box
    4. I plugged in the power for the formuler, only Formuler comes up on the screen as before nothing else.

I'm gutted now, my box was working perfectly. Now it's dead. After all this is there any hope?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Go back to a previous post with the openvix flashing guide, make sure no other usb devices are plugged in.

I always use an 8gb stick in size.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

Yes, never give up, when you plugged in usb stick did it flash to show it was recognised? can you try the front port and make sure other sticks connected. But first check the file structure on usb stick, it should have forlder formuler then 4 files.

Im here for a bit so report back.

    report back

AFAIK you should copy the complete folder "formuler1" containing the 4 files to the root of the USB.

Ok, Conflicting messages. Other posts had told me to extract straight to the USB, Extracting from the zip creates 4 files in the root. Maybe I misinterpreted. Selecting the folder when the zip is open and copy to ESN extras the formuler folder with the 4 files in it to the root of the usb, nothing else on it. Will try flash now.

I found the front usb, I did not know the panel dropped down

I can't keep buying USB stick lads, previous advice told me to get a 32GB cruzer blade which I just waited 5 or 6 days for!

    Anyway, it's flashing now!

I have flashed many e2 boxes and i just download the file and extract it to my usb and it should say finish and exit out.
Did you follow the PDF guide for flashing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

The box has 3 usb ports and yes you may get conflicting info. It has 2 usb at rear and then at front there is a cover flap that conceals the card reader, sd card slot and the usb slot.

Go slow even I get confused with so many boxes. There was a minute between me and GERRY W posting, its the same info. That cruzer has never left me down.

There are a few more tricks but I hope you get sorted.

This image shows the front of your box. See the flap.

Reading an old post on WOS they said when powering box on at rear press the on button to start the flashing process.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

at greaspalm, the op has tried to flash/uodate the image using the online facility and it has buggered the software.

Yes. I am trying to do everything ye guys tell me. It still says flashing 20 minutes after beginning now....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

That happened before but at least you got flashing back. The word flashing usually disappears and you get updating, erasing, reading, then file names. Give it a few more minutes. Did you find the front usb port?

I have to go in a mo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Flashing is taking far too long

Thanks mate. I have to flashing via the front USB...still stuck on that...looks like it was not an issue with the kingston 128usb, where the same things happened

ok this is next bit. 2 things to try.

Go to usb stick and open it and see the 4 files, change the file noforce to force, save and close then try to flash.

next try what greasepalm has said, plug in usb and then as you power on at back hold the power button in at front at same time.

with the power trick you can try it with noforce and force.

If these do not work you go to next step and that is use an openatv image. get it here.

    http://images.mynonpublic.com/openatv/6.3/index.php?open=formuler1

    i am back tomorow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 881 ✭✭✭boardtc

    1. did not work
    2. stuck on flashing again
    3. I held both buttons for maybe 1min, it went to booting and then shows bbc 2, I guess that meant it booted off the usb? Turning on the TV it's on bbc 2 alright, playing fine, I guess that's from the usb image :-(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,990 ✭✭✭greasepalm

Anytime an image is flashed to box it usually goes into wizard mode for setup. Is box working again and can you say if still on old image?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 881 ✭✭✭boardtc

Yes!! I'm quiet confused. I thought it was booting off the usb stick but just rebooted with it removed and my channels are there. I thought I'd have to retune and setup after a flash so that's unexpected. I went into software management and selected software upgrade and it said 200 packages available which seems strange after a fresh flash? Maybe it has not flashed at all?

There is an INFO section in the menu to say what version you are running. At least you now know it's no bricked :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,834 ✭✭✭swoofer

At least I know the image is openatv and not Vix, So if it aint broke dont fix it should be the maxim.

Yes, it's not bricked! v6.1 OpenATV from 2017. So it did not flash...

So can you say how long u have it, I take it you bought from WORLD of sat with a vix image.

I bought it 2 years ago but for various reasons it's got next to no use, been parked for most of that time but I finally have a permanent wired setup for ethernet and satellite connection now. I bought the F1 as is, I have only connected usb sticks to it for external drives. The box came with OpenATV installed.

I have looked at putting a saorview aeriel in the attic but have not done that yet. I did put time into epg, skin before but it's too long ago for me to remember. Not sure where to access the skin details.

The Linux kernel shows a 4.10.6 from Aug 2019 so something updated!

Indeed! Going on your previous message from last night, my next step now is to try the http://images.mynonpublic.com/openatv/6.3/index.php?open=formuler1 flash...

Updated: I ensured the openatv formuler directory was in the root of the USB and initiated the flashing...after 5 minutes is still says flashing..I'll leave it a while but not holding by breath...

When you look at image it should show skin at bottom. Dont try and flash yet until box is all ok. You wont gain anything with a later version. And you may scupper box again. You need to do a backup as well. So you need a USB/HHD attached usb stick = hdd

go menu setup usage gui, skin setup , should tell you skin. I have metric hd skin.

NB when you do a new flash and it works you have to recreate everything but if you have box ok from start you get option to restore settings.

    im on version 6.2
